N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I've been making SVCD's from VHS tapes and they look nice. However the SVCD's I make have about 5-6 different tracks on them since i cut the comercials out. And when the tracks change the audio is usually off a few seconds from the video unless i puase and hit play to sycronize. Then it plays fine for the rest of the track. My bios is 9.28. CVD? $150 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I tried to upgrade the bios and succeeded after burning my 5th cd. It turns out that you must create the disk as "Track at once, close disk" rather than "Disk at once". Also make sure you use ISO 9660 XA2 format. The firmware is here: http://server33.hypermart.net/dvd-vcd/firmware.htm I was at version 6.25 before the update and 9.25 after. Without the update it will not play SVCD! Once I got the track-at-once thing it went very smoothly.

CVD? $120 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Works with everything I've tried above. SVCD looks beautiful and works flawlessly. VCD would freeze during fast forward before the firmware upgrade but now all is well. Only issue is with PAL VCDs in which it actually displays in PAL and therefore is weird black and white rolling image with sound. It's not really a big deal cause the conversion to NTSC is overnight. If i could do it again i would get the pioneer 5 disc cause i'm lazy and think it supports dvd-r.

CVD? $150 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I tried updating the rom according to one of the users postings. I first burnt the rom ISO 9660 MODE 1 with Nero on a 80 Minute PNY disk. The DVD Player couldn't read the disk. I then burnt the rom on a 74 Minute cdr in MODE 2 XA with Roxio CD Creator 5.0. This worked. I have used the PNY media before with VCD's and red book audio. Not sure which setting made the difference... but maybe this will help someone.

Have not had the opportunity to try DVD-R, DVD+RW, or DVD+R yet.

CVD? $200 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: This is an ok DVD Player. If i were to buy another DVD Player, i would go for any other brand except Philips. Here is the reason. It does not play PAL VCD/DVD/... formats. I called the customer service they tell me that it is playing, except for the output is in PAL instead of NTSC. So if you planning to play any overseas VCD/DVD/... you will be better off with any other player.

CVD? $150 N/A 9 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: I have firmware 9.23 (free upgrade, thanks to a call to the Philips 800 #). I've made dozens of xSVCDs with no problem, but the max bitrate for them seems to be 2650, anything higher and I get skips. Haven't tried high bitrate xVCDs much. 800 MB CD-R and CD-RW also work fine. I have not been able to get MP3's to play.

CVD? $150 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: My player is a Philips-Magnavox DVD825 To check your version number Boot the DVD player with no disc in so it says "Insert Disc" keep pressing down until you see the version number mine before the update was "6.25 990416 P5" and now is "9.25 000310 P5". I heard of other versions 9.23 000124 P5 / 9.21 991102 P5 / 8.00 990702 P5 / 6.x / 5.x 1. Check your version number and make sure it isn't 9.25 000310 or higher 2. Record files at root of a CD-R ISSO9660 format DAO 3. Boot the DVD player with no disc in so it says "Insert Disc" 4. Open the tray and insert the CD-R (DO NOT PRESS PLAY) 5. It will take about 5 minutes to update and will open the tray when done 6. Remove the CD-R and close it using the tray (DON'T PRESS CLOSE) 7. Check your version number should be now 9.25 000310 Those are the instructions I was told to use, but I used Joliet by mistake and my player didn't do anything for 20 minutes so I turned it off and then back on and the update went fine and then I did the last steps. The only difference I've noticed on 9.25 is if you put an mp3 CD in it'd spin forever saying reading CD and now it just ejects it. To convert this player for multi-region playback: · Send the infra-red code RC6 (aka Codeset 4, Key 235 in nerd-speak) to your player. You can do this with a OneForAll remote such as the OneForAll 6 (or URC7560) with the following instructions: 1. Configure your remote using the setup code 0539 2. Press the Magic button 3. Enter the code 085 · If you own a Palm Pilot, you may also use Pacific Neo-Tek's OmniRemote software to generate the RC6 code using a downloadable .pdb file. 1. Download the .pdb file into your Palm Pilot 2. Press the OmniRemote key marked as 955 Multizone · The onscreen display should look like this: '-----------' · Using the number keys on your DVD player's remote control, enter the code 222 222 005 255 · Press the Play button on your DVD player's remote control · The onscreen display should now show the words No Disc

It will not load SVCD (standard) or mp3 CD-it ejects the disc.

Plays XVCD (3000bit rate was the highest i tried), SVCD, VCD, and probably XSVCD too, i just downloaded it and i am about to try it out. i've used cheap CDR's and good CDR's with no problems ever. truely a nice DVD player for the amount. dont know about the MP3 playing capabilities though, since it didnt work for me.
