MP3 interface is so primitive that it's practically unusable.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: The MP3 user interface is so bad, that you may as well assume that the player doesn't support it. Apart from that, this is a very good player. Optical o/p, built in DTS and Dolby decoders are standard. Multiregion support is trivial ... just reset the player from the remote. Philips support was also superb - I had *one* dvd which used to stick on my player, and Philips replaced the optical block free of charge outside warranty.

WMA? CVD? $? N/A 1 of 10 Comments: Can't get many of the movies burnt to work on this player. It’s the most incompatible play that I have had the misfortune of owning. I've tried Bulkpak and Ritech (Purple and Printable) +R burnt at 2.4x and 4x and Datasafe Media's 2x -R disks with a failure rate of about 80%. I've also tried Infiniti +RW disks with a similar failure rate. Before anyone says it, it’s not the movies they play PERFECTLY on my Panasonic A350 (that’s about 5 years old), My PS2, and a Samsung 709 (which I mistaking thought was the most incompatible machine I have). :( Let’s be quite honest here most people who burn +R and -R disks are copying movies. If that’s what you want to do DO NOT GET THIS UNIT unless you’re going to invest in good quality disks and that would then mean that you might as well buy the original.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Depending of the firmware version on the player, the audio and subtitle tracks for svcds can only be changed from the system menu. To activate the system menu it can be necessary to stop the playback of the svcd. It seams, that this behavior is depending from the firmware also. At least this behavior is the case with the firmware 4.15O-0 and 4.15V-0. If I’m right, the system menu could be entered with the original firmware version, my player was delivered - but I’m no more quite sure. From the system menu, there you can change audio tracks and select subtitles to display. Usually you have to start the play back via the system menu point, where you can switch the tracks and chapters of the svcd, to get the audio change and subtitles permanent. Right channel is fine, but left channel consists of *very* high level distortion, present on stereo, 5.1 and SCART L audio out. Philips say this needs servicing, but it is out of warranty, and it's not that important to me. Other than this, and several audio CDs vibrating badly, which seems to be common in DVD players, the player is great.

CVD $350 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Plays cvd´s,svcd´s,xsvcd´s with subtitles frameserved from virtualdub with no problems. sometimes freezes ,no clue why (it´s nothing to do with burning speed). couldn´t fastforward/rewind until i made a bin/cue file with vcdeasy before burning with nero. N/A 8 of 10 Comments: When using DVD2SVCD use VCDImager. With VCDXBuild the selection of audio track and fast forward is impossible, player displays no play-time. Haven't tried i-author... Maybe someone can do... So it depends strongly on the authoring software if this player likes all features of your svcds or not...

N/A 4 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Some VCDs get struck up and then stop playing (not a VCD player) they work fine with a NAPA VCD player. For MP3 discs doesnt display the file names which is very annoying. Some non region 2 discs gets rejected from the player, although the same disk works with a SONY dvd player. Some features are easy and some are cumbersome.. Phillips needs to enhance its features a lot.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Created DVD using Ulead Moviefactory & Sony DRU-120A DVD Rewriter. DVD +RW Fine, sometimes pauses between chapters. After a reformat fixed issue. DVD +R no problems at all.

CVD? $350 N/A 9 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: The only problem i have with this one is that the burning of CD-R need to be not more than 8x because if i use 12x mode the player sometimes freeze images. I use this player to view SVCD created with DVD2SVCD buid 3 with audio encoding in 5.1 mode (Dolby Digital) at 384 kbits. It works very good, and selecting on my amplifier the 6 channel input, i can hear the sound in Dolby Digital mode with an excellent result. This is an excellent player!!!

N/A 8 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: In addition to my posts below, I can confirm that miniDVD does not work for me. The "even more features" box above suggests it does, but I burned the DVD sample from this site onto a Freecom CD-RW using the Nero instructions and just got "ERROR" when I put it in the machine. I have successfully played SVCDs on this CD-RW, and the miniDVD automatically starts up my ATI DVD player and plays the content on my PC. I've tried a few brands of CD-R and CD-RW, all without problems. I use an HP 9020i burner and the supplied software. I've done the region-free remote hack with my Pronto remote. No problems, but I don't yet have any non-R2 discs to try.

CVD? $350 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Good picture quality. The svcd subtitles are displayed on the screen "occasionaly", 1-2 subtitles every 2- 8 minutes, like random generated.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: seems to work well with all cdr/rw tested. DVD+RW playback can be 'sticky'(depends on how formatted, seems to be ok with B's recorder gold) DVD-R tested with 1x record using cheap (£.90) datasafe disks. (used ulead dvd factory demo to create disk) Defintely does not play mp3 with digital output, but analogue is excellent anyway. Plays MP3 better @ 256kbs. Great player for the price, remote hack works a treat with no drawbacks, we play uk/US/Brazil disks, swapping all the time, so no 10x change problems.

CVD? $200 N/A 4 of 10 Comments: Freezes occasionally during VCD playback but resumes after a second or two. More and more convinced that this is the player and not the VCD. Often a problem with audio sync towards the end of a VCD. Have learnt to resolve this by pressing pause, then rewind for a few seconds, press pause again and then play. This usually brings the audio back in sync.Have no idea why this should work and asked Philips but they didn't seem to know either. What I first thought was another fault with my discs would appear to be a fault with the player.
