I used the 737 for two years and 10 month. was able to play DivX very well and also other DVD copy (it is not the case with my LG) unfortunately now as a lot of you already know as stop to read any kind of support.I am not happy about Philips, I spent in Genuary 2004 around 199 Euro for a product that in three yars is dead.Now I decided to buy a Nortek for 54 Euro instead of repare the Philips. I'm not happy thinking that we are putting into the bin object with 95% of well done component that are stil working just because there is some internal component that are not well done. How much energy loss? How many rubbish around. No more top brand with top price.

| I can say - no problem during first-second year (except old known subtitle problem). But some month ago I have noticed problem during playback - doesn't matter video or mp3 or audio cd. It becomes interrupted for a short time (cca 0,1s) and it repeated at each cca 10-20s. This happend during cca 5-10 min. of playng and after it it becomes fine. (synchronisation problem?) Does someone havin troubles like thi? |

Some problems with original DVD-Video buyed wiht newspapers : difficulty in 2° layer transitions, i suppose : after a certain number of scenes the film stops and the 737 play sounds in loop even if it was trying to continue the playing.
Sometimes with these dvd-video i receive, directly at the dvd-loading the messagge disk error.
Are there in these dvd any phisical errors by the producers to avoid the piracy and our 737 is too sensible ???

Still loving the player. Also had problems with the drive not reading any discs once in a while, but fixed those quite easily. If you open the case there's a white cable in the drive connected to the laser-unit. If you unplug this cable and re-plug it in, there's a big chance the problem's solved.. I know many people used this technique to solve the described problem.

Any know why I can't play DTS Audio CD in my Philips 737.
I have conect this to my Sony Receiver AC3 and DTS decoder via Digital Coaxial conection, but I ear only noise.
In my other DVD Toshiba I can ear Audio CD DTS fine.

Hi guys, I'm having the same problems with my 20-months-old
DVD737...it has always worked flawlessly, but since one
month or two, with no apparent reason, viewing a DVD has
become a real nightmare...most of the times it does not
even recognize that a DVD is inserted, sometimes the
reproduction starts, but then, after 20 minutes or so
of smooth playback, the monster starts hic-cupping
until it freezes miserably.
I'm sure the problem is not in the discs themselves, since
all the other players I've tried them with are able to play
them perfectly (and some of them are even original).
Now, the good thing is that I've discovered today that the
warranty of the thing has been extended from 1 to 2 years
(at least here in Italy, but I guess in many other countries
also), so tomorrow I'll take it to the nearest Philips
authorized repair service for assistance under warranty.
Please, wish me good luck, I feel I need it.

How to change DVD737 DVD-loader!
Very simple!
First of all do this on your RISK!
I will explain it to all of you step by step.
Open the cover of DVD737 very carefully.
Unplug main power cable form outlet!!!
You will see on the left side original DVD-loader.
Buy new IDE cable (min 30 cm length).

Also buy MOLEX power patch cable http://www.ocmodshop.com/6portbaybus/molex.jpg
Connect external computer IDE DVD-drive (i.e. Sony DDU1613 in my case) via new IDE cable to main PCB of DVD737.
Disconnect power cable (MOLEX) from original DVD-loader and connect it via MOLEX power patch cable to external computer IDE DVD-drive.
Set computer IDE DVD-drive as master (via jumper on the back side)
Make a little hole on the back of DVD737 cover for cables.
Put the cover back and mount external DVD drive on the top or aside of DVD737, and Voila...
Beware of electric SHOCK!
One more time, do this on your RISK!

That problem with discs not loading happened to me too a few day ago. Fortunately, 24 hour later it was working again.
If this happens again i will try to do what Luna suggested (replacing original DVD loader with a DVD IDE drive) though i don't know exactly how to do it. |

I have had this player for about 1 year now. One month after I bought it the player stopped working. Could not load the discs. I returned it and got a brand new one. Now I had the problem again. The player stopped loading the discs. When I returned it now, they had no more 737 in stock, so I got a Yamaha S550. Hope I will have better luck with this one. Have not testet the Yamaha much jet, but I see it can FF 24x!

I use Sony DDU1613 internal DVD-IDE drive (silver ;o) ). It works fine, maybe it is a little bit noisy instead of original Philips DVD-MODULE 212C VERSION: DP330 (service manual ref. - DVD Loader A97S) loader.
But read all media better than original Philips loader!

737 reads .txt!!!
With new unofficial firmware by Abdul (v.4.0) 737 could read simply .txt files with ISO 8859-2 encoding (latin2).
I must say that Abdul's soft is the best I've ever seen for our player - subtitles are:
1) first: big white with black outline
2) second: middle white with grey background
After more than a year of using my 737 and testing other dvd players with divx - must say that 737 is still the best.

Good firmware modification based on 4.1.36 available.
(Very good since Philips doesn't care about the subtitle visibility)
Available for latin-1 (Western Europe), latin-2 (Eastern Europe) and Cyrillic.

Read almost everything, good software, everything seems to be perfect, almost mark ten, but, but.....
DVD-loader is piece of shit. I have main motor bearings problem on DVD-loader on my dvd737 , awful.....
Problem with overheating.
Cheap electronic inside.
You can replace original DVD loader with any good DVD-IDE drive (set drive select as master).
I did it, and now it works fine with Sony DVD-IDE drive.
It is cheaper solution than repairing/replacing original DVD-loader.

Hi,
i´m somewhat disapointed because there are some Xvid encided files it doesn´t play. Also in some cases there are animation movies tjat do play but only in squares. Anyone know how to solve this, if it´s solvable |
