No problem on svcd with sub track. When playing audio cd (not all) i can hear a click on right channel. Overall good player, very good price/quality.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Overall a great player with just a few problems: The manual says it can play SVCD subs(selectable subs I'm talking about, it plays permanent SVCD subs fine). But on a couple of svcd's I've made myself with selectable SVCD subs they just don't appear. I've yet to try a sample to see if it does really work. Sometimes SVCD's(only with home-made SVCD's) will pause/skip up, it will happen from the start of movie. It's a problem with how you authored/compiled the svcd and the player not liking that particular way. It works fine when you use the DVD2SVCD program and so far if a disc hasn't played well, reburning the svcd(made with any program/s) with stomp recordnowDX makes the svcd play all smooth and pretty. Also it doesn't like(rarely) cheap dvd-+r discs, but I put this down more to movies being compressed on cheap discs than disc/player compatibility issues. Cheap discs work fine if the movie hasn't been compressed. On a good note the player is macrovision free ( the Australian version anyway) and can be region hacked through the remote(check the DVD hacks section on how).

CVD? $175 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MPEGISO Comments: I own the 729 (black version of the 728) for one month and it is really cool. Great design. Plays really everything. Except that I have a problem with DVD-MP3. It starts playing the dics ok, but after a couple of songs it stops. Also, when jumping from one title to another, the player is suddendly dead: no reaction from frontpanel or remote control. The only remedy is to unplug and replug it again. Anyone else the same experience? I tried it on both DVD+R and DVD+RW media with over 1000 mp3 titles (divided over different maps) (Note: the specs only mention CD-MP3 playback, whith which I have no problem) For the rest: an excellent player with very good picture quality.

N/A 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I just bought this player yesterday in Paris France for 199 Euros, now it's "Region Free". I just choose the DV 729, because of it's Black color to put it upon my Home chainHIFI, but it's exactly the same as the DV-728 except the color. It just almost plays everything, except for DIVX. It played all my DVD-R (burned at 4X with a Pioneer DVR-105) and all my VCD, SVCD en MP3 CD-R's Picture is very good quality, and the sound is excellent. So my recommendation is buy this machine.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: Overall a very good budget player. Picture & sound quality is excellent when playing DVD's. Plays MP3's very well but do note that the menu / On screen display listing the tracks is complicated and not very user friendly. VCD works reasonably well but only if you are using high quality CD-R's. The tracks become very jumpy and skip if the cheaper CD-R's are used (Note - this only applies to VCD, Audio CD's have always played very well no matter what quality CD-R's were used). I have tested slideshows on VCD and this worked brilliantly (Great way to save photo's). The player also has a karaoke funtion but I have never tested this.
