N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I've downloaded about 100 different SVCD's, DVD-R's, and CVD's and only 3 VCD's didn't work! This player really rocks, exept that you can't go forward/backward in an vcd/svcd. I usually burn my isos with NERO, but alcohol 120% and clonecd was no problem either.

CVD? $250 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I've had this player for over a year now. Works with all kind of CD-R/RW I've tested (including super-cheap ones), including SVCDs overburned to 795 Mb. Mine came with a flash ROM, so I could update the firmware. 2.9.6 has quite a few problems with (S)VCD, but 4.1 reads them perfectly. It doesn't get a 10 because it has a very annoying problem: it can't seek long (S)VCD, so no FFWD/RWD. Other than that, it's a *very* good player.

CVD? $175 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Very good picture/sound quality, compared to other DVD-players...Also plays nice pictureshows in Fullsize DVD-quality: burned as VCD/SVCD (still image=704x576)!!! on CD. Plays CD-R and CDRW flawlessly even with all sorts of MP3's, VCD's, SVCD's,... on it. Only slow at start/stop and other functions....but it appears to be normal on DVD-players. My player was on sale in Germany with the latest regionfree/macrovision disabled, Flashed Rom.

If the firmware is the version 2.9.6xxxx don't buy the player if you want to play vcd or svcd. You will get lot of problems. Probably you will need to upgrade the firmware but you can't know if your chip is upgradable or not, so, forget it, better buy another one without problems. If you live in Spain, is impossible to solve this... I'm in this situation since July 02'. Philips Spain don't solve me this problem after several times carrying my dvd to de "Technical Service"...After every time, the result is is worst... DON'T BUY IT.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: My player (712/021) has problems with the variable bitrate SVCDs. Trying up upgrade the firmare ends up in an error. Maybe I have an EPROM instead of a FLASH. Perhaps someone knows how to change the eprom to a flash. And the type of silizium is needed, too. I cannot recommend the player, buy some no-names and you have no problems ...

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Hi All. Just couple of comments regarding Philips 722 Player. 1) If You want to watch SVCDs or CD-R, DO NOT buy this player. Trust me... 2) My 722 has been a extremely problems to identifie some CD-R medias. 3) They (Philips) tried to change some components (IC) ---> no help. Firmware updates is just for joke... 4) Almost every "no name" CD-R media --> 20 mins ok --> then hanging, freezing, pixelshit etc problems. 5) Horrible noice when playing some CD-Rs If you are going to watch only DVDs, then it¨s ok. I bought a Pioneer DV-353 and that player really rocks !!! Every SVCDs that Philips 722 couldn't handle are just piece of cace to Pioneer DV-353 player. Just noticed that, no more... ///Huu

CVD? $250 N/A 10 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: Tried it with easy cd creator :( no luck i did check the eeprom and wahtta you know busted :( when you make your philips 722 region free with a rc 6 code no more upgrade possible because it doesn't reconise the software :( need to get hacking for a new region code that supports upgrades note: philips 751 etc.. doesn't have these problems so it is still possible :D ( let me know if any 1 hacked the region coding )

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: when upgrading from V2.9.6 an error occurs. I did everything "by the book" but I does not work. I use Nero 5582 to burn both files, but it is recommended to use Easy CD Creator. Could this be the reason? PS. When upgrading, everything goes well. The player recognizes the upgrade and starts the upload. But at a certain moment it stops with an error message. I have tried several cdrs with the same result. I shall now try Easy CD Creator, altough I do not like this software at all...

Planning to buy a Pioneer 104 DVD-RW drive for my PC, I'm not sure if it can play these disks burned on my PC, as the manual does not mention that DVD-R or DVD-RW are supported. If anybody is SURE that these disks are supported from my DVD Player please send an e-mail at mikehadj@yahoo.com or advise this forum.
