DVD-R Ritek G04 (purple, orange): (4x) 100% success Princo (white): (4x) 0% success (2x) 50% success Bulkpaq generation 4 (orange): (4x) 0% success (2x) 10% success DVD+R with DVD+R booktype All medias: 0% success DVD+R with DVD-ROM booktype That's Write (Ricoh): (4x) 100% success Special requirement is that DVD needs to be at least 4 GB in size or the player doesn't recoqnize it. It doesn't matter if the actual content is over 4 GB. Just add some files to \VIDEO_TS folder so that total size is over 4 GB and it plays fine. Files don't even have to be video files. 100% success with good quality discs. Also plays fine good quality discs burned with Pioneer 105. Bad quality discs don't work but many of those can't be even read back with the burner so they are total scrap anyway. SVCD playback is possible only when the player is set to region 1 (region free code can be entered after setting first to region 1). Lipsync problems are common with SVCD but otherwise playback is ok. Mono audio plays only through analog outputs.

My 1300a burns a +R with a book type of DVD+R which will not play, but my mate has an NEC 1100 which can burn +Rs as DVD-Rom and these play back no problem. DVD+R media with DVD+R booktype doesn´t work. Please note some burners do it by default (HP for example) A better explanation: "For a DVD player or drive to identify what kind of disc is loaded, it queries the so called "Book Type Field" found in the lead-in section of each DVD disc. These few bits, commonly referred to as "compatibility bitsettings" tell the drive which low-level format specification does the media conform to, such as DVD-ROM, DVD+R or DVD+RW. Most DVD players will read a DVD+RW or DVD+R disc without any problems, however a small minority of them report a disc error when a disc is loaded that is not marked as a "DVD-ROM" disc in the compatibility bits. Ususally, these players are physically able to read the disc (since DVD+RW reflectivity is identical to that of a dual layered DVD-Video disc, which all players must be capable of reading), but their compatibility problems are due to different interpretations of these bits in the various firmware versions. In most cases, the problem can be solved by updating the firmware. When a firmware fix is unavailable, or when you want to increase changes of playability when you give the disc to others with an unknown player, you could solve the issue by marking the DVD+R or DVD+RW disc as a DVD-ROM disc. This is what's called "changing the compatibility bitsettings". To instruct your DVD recorder to mark your DVD+R or DVD+RW discs as DVD-ROM, a special procedure must be followed. On a DVD+RW video recorder, you need to press a number of keys on the remote control. With a DVD+RW PC drive, you'll need a special utility program to accomplish this."

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: so far: burning w/NERO (onto DVD-R/RW-Cendyne 105 burner-NERO Video DVD) found that to work with this player, the final disc MUST be bigger than 4GB. any lower than 4GB, and mine say "NO DISC". I have no firmware or region upgrades-just out of the box. All brands that I have worked so far-Verbatim; Memorex; Princo; and some TDK that I just tried...All in all, a good player...

DVD's authored in Apple DVD Studio Pro using Taiyo work just fine. Even when using build disc only (not build & format) and burning instead with Toast. But DVD's copied using DVD Backup and burned Taiyo with Toast won't mount 9 out of 10 times at all. ("No disc" message, and spits them out, or refuses to eject until switching the player off and on again) These discs however play just fine using Apple Software Player, Pioneer DVD340, Philips623 and even crap stuff like Cyberhome. Player is firmware 9.28 with remote hack. Burner is Pioneer DVR-105.

Used Remote Control commands to enable SVCD Does not recognise DVD+RW - my burner sets BookType DVD+RW. Suspect that player could play DVD+RW with booktype DVD-Rom, Burner does not support this however.

N/A 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Oldie but goldie ! never had any problems with my philips 710 in the last 3 Years !!! for SVCD Support you have to change to RC1 then make a regionhack (its very easy, search in several DVD-boards) and everthing works superb ! Probably you have to do a firmwarwe update too, but its real easy to do (you won`t get it from Philips search in google for it) DVD+R/RW burnt with my NEC ND-1100A (179,- EUR ! 4xSpeed) works best (on Verbatim - others not tested !) I had none of the problemes reported in other postings on this site ...

As far as i have tested this player only plays Nashua DVD-R, but sometimes you have to push play a second time because the first time it will not play. It does not play DVD+R/RW.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: If any of you folks are having trouble with audio sync when palying SVCD then try to press audio on your remote several times. It works fine for me. I am glad I did not trashed those SVCD I thought were out of sync.

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Made my german player RegionFree and it plays all (x)vcds and (x)svcds. But it won't play my burned DVD-Rs. I'm burning with Pioneer A05 (1.21) and tested a few DVDs (Maxell, TDK, some NoName). Only one of them is played after some open-close-tries and then not fine. Is there a different between purple and other ones? Tested the DVD-Rs in Philips dvd-700, pioneer dv-350 and dv-444, they worked flawless. I've tried to up/downgrade firm from 9.28 to 8.00/9.23, but it kept the 9.28 firm... Wondering why? If you find something out let me know...
