Also dvd's work great, no skips ect. and thats when using supercrappy optodisk dvd+r media. ha.

I recently bought a +/- DVD Rewriter and every dvd that I burned so far + - Philips, Mmore, No Name do all work fine on it. Before I got the DVD RW I used to burn (s)vcd's and they all worked fine too. None of the brands where rejected and I used many.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Plays my DVD+RW (came with the burner) and DVD+R Memorex Media aswell. I've had this thing for many years and I'm impressed that it will even work with new dvd media.

N/A No rating Comments: Just tried cheapo Lead Data DVD-R (€ 0.91 per piece) and they work, both burning DVD (converted XVid with tmpgenc) and VCD files with sound altered to 48000 Hz. Burned with Tmgpgenc DVD author.

Burned one DVD and one VCD with sound changed to 48000, as explained in guides available here. All work fine. Used tmpgenc for encoding and tmpgenc dvd author 1.5 for making menu and burning. Firmware is 7.12. (000710 P53 4.3.13) Will try more later.

It play: DVD-r with and without menu, xSVCD with 720x576 resolution and anamorfhic too, SVCD and VCD, read all type of CD-media, but the DVD-media must be of good quality (no princo). I just got a DVD-R burner and no such luck there with the -R or -RW's. My APEX plays these perfectly. I am reading comments on here about hacks and whatnot, I havent tried these yet and the only brand of DVD-R I have tried was Maxell. Still a damn good player.

MP3 WMA CVD? $60 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: This is a great dvd player, but when i got my Toshibia burner and used Princo DVD-R, most did not play. I found there to be a difference between the 701's. Some are able to upgrade their firmware, some are not. Mine was not able, and i coudln't get DVD-Rs to work. I heard some people were sucessful, but i think its attributed to a newer firmware. It does a great job w/ Svcd's and Vcds, and thats where i started with it. Rock on!

CVD? $250 N/A No rating miniDVD/cDVD Comments: Have basically no troubles with this machine - working since 2 years and nice efforts - only self burned DVD + R and + RW make a bit troubles. I bought a Philips 228 DVD burner and there has been each one + R and +RW disk attached. Every DVD burned on this original Philips blank DVD's are working without any troubles. However, you do not get this Philips blanks on the shops right now and every other blank disk make troubles (I tested TDK, Sony, Verbatim, Fujifilm and Platinum - all of them with some light purple surface) and it seems that the surface makes the trouble. The Phlips blank had an nearly white surface.

N/A 6 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: It is a good DVD-Player, but the max bitrate of SVCD is 2300 video + 128 audio. And it doesn't support CDVD. Mpeg2 encoded with TMPGENC, and burnt with Nero. N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I have played VCD's and SVCD's on this maschine with no problems other than my mistakes while encoding the video. Once I figured out that part, it has worked flawlessly with VCD/SVCD's using all different kinds of media. However, attempted to watch a movie burned onto a DVD-R (burning it as a DVD and not a VCD/SVCD), but the machine attempted to read it, and then kicked it out. I contacted Philips online, and they stated that this machine does NOT have DVD-R capability, so beware. The DVD-R I burned worked well on the DVD drive on my computer, so I know my compilation was not the problem. I recommend this player to anyone, just beware that it does not play DVD-R (DVD movies).

I convert all my svcd's into vcd's and then use the vcd and add whatever i like to it to act just like a svcd. its just as good. It's a great product.

N/A No rating Comments: I have a friend with this DVD Player and some of the SVCD's I gave him work and some dont.The ones that dont work are movies from a svcd release group called centropoly and they start up black and white and bounce all over the place dose anyone know how to solve this I've tried adjusting the dvd player options but nothing helped.

CVD? $167 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: DVD fine for the low price. Was impressed with the VCD playback (no real glitches). However SVCD is another story. I tried Ulead VS 5 and 6 and Nero 5.5 but had problems on some disks with video/audio sync. Very odd Very dissapointing. Same disks play very well in a Pioneer 444.
