CVD? $400 30 days 8 of 10 Comments: General comments: I like it! Its a great replacement to my old video recorder. These comments are based on the firmware 1_26. Advantages: * Relatively easy to use. * Easy to program timed recordings * Good picture quality of recordings even in "long play mode". * Works like a VCR * Very few bugs compared to my previous Kiss DP558 which I returned. * Possible to take a screen shot and store as an index picture. Nice. * Possible to rename titles on recording. * Good value for the money. As with all products there are a few drawbacks, but even though the list is long, I do not find most of them severe. * It was a bit tricky to get started the first time. I got no picture on the selected input but after a few tries I got to the setup screen. Unfortunately did not the automatic setup work as I cycled the power, but it was easy to configure. * I have only tried recording to DVD+RW and if you watch a recorded program and stop in the middle of it and then programs another timed recording it will start to record from the position in the previous program where it was stopped. To avoid this problem I select empty title in the browser before I start a new recording. NOT TRIVIAL! * I have not found an easy way to swap programmed channels. It also only allows very short channel names. * It does not show the remaining time to record on a disc. * It is not possible to "defragment a disc". If you erase a recording between two other programs there is a "hole" which can only be filled with a program that is shorter or of equal length. * It does not play DivX etc. * Not possible to concatenate titles, only chapters. * I have not succeeded in making it multeregion. The hacks I tried did not work

I recommend it if you don't want to expend a lot of money...

Soy de México también y en este país es multiregión no región o DVD que se le resista.

The image quuality is the same of Daewoo players, It uses ESS VideoDrive Video Decoder. The PAL to NTSC conversion is BAD. It let's you see in colors, but stretchs the image vertically -can't maintain the aspect ratio-. If you have a widescreen enhanced TV or with vertical controls this unit may suit your requirements (for PAL DVDs). Overall it's good player.

CVD? $70 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I went out and picked up this unit & it plays many DVD+R brands. Memorex, Maxell, Imation, & Verbatim. It played the only DVD+RW I own which is a memorex. It plays mp3 on mini disc. It plays CD-R, CD-RW, VCD. I'm not much into svcd or xsvcd so I don't know, but for the money it seems to to the trick. I have a Apex AD1000 that reads DVD+R, but not DVD+RW. If any one knows the firmware fix email me at SilverRainPro@Yahho.com I use DVD X Copy, DVD X Copy Xpress, A Memorex DVD Burner, Ulead DVD Picture Show & Showbiz software. I spent a whole day to find a decent stand alone And I highly recomend it. Alex

CVD? $150 N/A No rating JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename DivX MPEGISO Comments: Brasil: Destravando o Philips DVD 615 Acabei de testar seguindo uma receita no final desta seção porém, mais simples. 1 - Ligue o aparelho sem disco e mantenha a porta aberta (pode ser que nem precise deixar aberta) 2 - Digite 111 1x (onde x = [0 - All Regions, 1..n - região desejada]) 3 - Aparecerá na tela que a região 0 é a corrente. Coloquei um DVD de região 1 e outro de região 4 e funcionaram.

Almost unusable.

N/A No rating Comments: Made my first test DVD+RW using MyDVD - made a simple slide show with jpeg images, with two chapter buttons on the menu. Worked great. Sorry, no other technical details. I used Imation media.

With this, you can play many MPEG-Videos without convert to VCD or SVCD, also plays MP3-files and its names on the screen. The main disavantage is the bis display which just displays a big numbre of the track but not the duration of it, and it has no clock time. In Mexico, where I live, this player is multiregion in NTSC format!

(testei no meu e deu certo - nao posso dar garantia) Descobri sem querer que pressionando uma serie de numeros 1 do controle remoto a porta do CD se abria (nao tem tecla OPEN no controle remoto). Ou seja, usei esse recurso tanto para abrir e para fechar a porta do CD. Soh que numa dessas tentativas deu ZEBRA. Apareceu na tela a seguinte mensagem: NEW REGION CODE 1 Preocupado, imediatamente coloquei um DVD regiao 4 no Player. Apareceu a seguinte mensagem na tela? WRONG REGION. Nao funcionou. Apos varias tentativas para voltar para a regiao 4, descobri o seguinte? PRIMEIRO DE TUDO: Ligue o DVD e abra a PORTA DO CD sem nenhum disco dentro. a) pressionando 111 111 111 111 e depois o numero 1, muda para a Regiao 1. b) pressionando 111 111 111 111 e depois o numero 2, muda para a Regiao 2. c) assim sucessivamente... Ou seja, depois da sequencia 111 111 111 111, o numero seguinte determina a regiao. Diante da descoberta, resolvi deixar para TODAS AS REGIOES usando o numero ZERO no final. Desse modo, ficou assim (primeiro ligando o DVD e deixando a porta do CD aberta): 111 111 111 111 0 Vai aparecer na tela NEW REGION CODE 0. Reverti a besteira que tinha feito e descobrindo ALL REGION para o meu DVD PHILIPS 615. FIM.
