CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: This unit has problems playing NTSC DVD with PCM audio. When playback of PCM audio occurs, the audio "pulses" with brief periods of audio and then brief periods of silence. This isn't a problem with AC3 audio.

N/A No rating DivX Comments: I'm French. I'm burn with Nero 5.5 and i'm encode with TMPGEnc and DVD2AVI. SC-HT75 can read VCD with Bitrate Variable (VBR_Auto in TMPGEnc).The quality was very good and the file was nearly same size with br 1150.

The DVD+R home movies I've created had many menu structures with background music, no problem with this player. I've used all price ranges of DVD+R and CD-R disks, haven't come across a type that didn't play. It might be important to note that the DVD+R or +RW disks you buy should be DVD-Video compatible, I have always made sure this was on the packaging because the manual for this player states it plays these type of disks. I used ULead VideoStudio 7 for my DVD+R creations and burns. Roxio for the VCDs (no menus).

Tested a VCD with the 'Header-trick' and it played alright.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Created DVD-R using Pinnacle Studio 8 at high and low quality, wrote disk with Instant DVD/CD with a Pioneer 104. Works fine. Used Traxdata dark purple disks. Also tried MP3 and VCD picture CD. Both worked ok.

CVD? $350 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I play mp3 sucessfully. I play SVCD but there is a skip frames & audio problem. I tried the VCD Header Trick, but its'n work (the same skip frmaes problems). The sound and picture quality is very good.

CVD? $400 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX MPEGISO Comments: I dont know why everyone keeps saying it doesnt play VCD's because it DOES! successfully played many original/retail VCD's and self made ones out of the box home made burnt with Nero 5.5.1.0 with loads of different CD-R brands even dirt cheap supermarket brands. Just drag and drop the MPEG files into nero, burn and off you go! no probs with MP3's so far...Have not had opportunity to try DVD-R, RW, +R, +RW etc but I gather fro the comments that it does which is good! Only prob I had was with SVCD's. A superb player for the price (£298 GB pounds)

CVD? $400 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I've bought this home cinema system around christmas 2002 and haven't had any problems what so ever. The mp3's play like a charm (I used a cd-r 700mb from Nashuatec). Anyone who says this machine doesn't play VCD should get their facts straight about burning one. It even plays SVCD but I must say that it skips frames/sound from time to time. To avoid this, use the Header-Trick (see the link at top of this page) the quality remains exaclty the same and the skips are gone. Haven't tested any home-made dvd's yet. I'm making a dvd+r as we speak...I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. greets from el Hanos.

N/A No rating Comments: Tried a VCD on a friend's SC-HT75. I created it using Nero on a CD-RW 650MB. The Title screen displayed but the player refused to play the clip - just showed a 'No Entry' symbol. I then tried the same VCD on a Sony VPNS305 and it played the clip. Looks like the HT75 is not reliable for CD-RW VCDs

SVCDs work if you do the little svcd to vcd trick listed on this website. This confuses the player into thinking the svcd is a vcd which allows it to play. I am very happy with this player. The price has fallen since i purchased it and i recommend this system to anyone who wants a quality surround sound system at a good price.

CVD? $350 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I have had great success playing back 2500kbps bitrate video cd's using Acer CD-R's. The picture quality is excellent, with no apparent problems. I did however witness that it is picky about certain MP3's. Some play choppy, and some play just fine. I have not yet tested SVCD's or the max bitrate for VCD's. Over all, this is an excellent player, with an awesome surround sound setup.

I suggest bringing your VCD to Best Buy and trying it in all the machines before you buy.
