CVD? $? over 1 year 5 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 DivX XviD Comments: It's good only for DVD movies and music CDs. Forget about Divx, Xvid, subtitles or DVD MP3. The player is quiet. My advice is stay away from tis model. Go for the newer ones with Divx and subtitle support, like S295 or S49.

After I wrote the comment, I found some playable MultiTitle DVD. So that, this player can't play some DVD, which not caused by MultiTitle. About DVD that not playable on Panasonic S-47, the DVD can play on LG Player (My friend just bought it), but I don't know the type. Thanks

And remote will not work except power and eject button. But these button required more time to respond.

I always burn any DVD's with book-type DVD-ROM, so not sure if standard +/-R is as compatible. And the DLs I have burnt work perfect!!!

I was surprised only when it didnt want to play mp3 on a dvd-r. it plays mp3 on cd r /rw. the rest is fine. it looks nice, it isnt noisy. let me know if your players play mp3 and jpeg files burned on dvd r/ rw/ram. :)

CVD? $100 4 days 6 of 10 Comments: Bought this player mail-order based on good reports about quality and performance. Absolutely needed Svcd and vcd support. First the GOOD--great picture/colors. Sound is terrific and adjustable including virtual surround. Most of all I love the variable zoom feature which allows to just fit the screen with widescreen movies. Now the BAD--poor FF on vcd/svcd. terrible mfg instructions manual, but worst of all picture doesn't pan smoothly. Noticeable on svcd and vcd is this jerky picture in motion scenes. Any scrolling text in video appears to move across the screen in a jerky fashion, which I find quite bothersome. This unit is going back, I'll try something else-maybe a Pioneer?

I bought one for my parents and one for myself, because of it plays almost all formats,CD+R/W,DVD+/-R, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, PhotoCD, etc. The main reason I bought this player was for the JPG support. I tried several different players, and all others were just too slow displaying JPG pictures or were limited in other ways. This player has a great JPG viewer, and navigation menu that supports long file names. Really easy to navigate folders and files on discs. JPG images on CD-R load pretty fast, depending on their file size and resolution. You can flip through images that are 720x480 instantly. 1600x1200 = ~1-2sec., and increases time from there. But even larger pictures don't take too much longer. Thumbnail view could be better. It is only a grouped view, and doesn't show thumbnails for each picture. Another feature of this player, is the ability to display bit-rate of DVD movies. It draws a nice real-time graph, showing the bit-rate. The remote is on the small side, but the most used buttons are laid out good so you can use it with one hand. Your thumb will rest on the directional pad, and within reach of Play/Stop/Pause/RW/FF.

CVD? $100 180 days 5 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I bought this dvd player earlier this year. My only problem with it is playing back-up DVD's. Every back-up DVD i've tried I can get to load, I get audio but the picture is in black and white 100% of the time. I've tried DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. All different brands of blank DVD's. At first I thought it was just the DVD's, that they didn't work with this dvd player. I tried atleast 4 different brands. Still no luck, so then I switched from Nero 6.0 to Roxio 7.0, that didn't work either. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I'm ready to just slap this on ebay and try a different dvd player.

CVD? $175 30 days 9 of 10 Comments: Really good player except it doesn't play dual layered discs. Tried with verbatim disc and lg 4120B burner. Everything else it accepts. Good options for the aspect ratios and subtitle choices as well. Those of you who supposedly get the dl to work, post some info on the burners ect that you used. Excellent picture and sound, relatively cheap price for all that it can do! (except that dl)

As far as I can see it plays most of the format that I would encounter (would have been nice with DivX, though!) It does play DVD+R and DVD+RW, even though it is not listed as a feature. Nice sharp picture. Good menues. The manual need som working on from Panasonic.

Pioneer recommends to write with setting DVD-ROM format for best compatibility with most DVD players. This is on the end of review for new 108 model writer. If you want read it and test in that way DVD-S47. Plese, write a report here for results. I think all will be OK, because old 2 year model RV32 read DL media (refering vcdhelp). I'm delighted by DVD-S47. Only small flaw is that this player can't play DivX/Xvid, but I think that is not important for quality movie maniacs! This is The Best DVD player on market on price till 300 Euro. I'm impatient to see and test new Panasonic top of range DVD-S97. It will be released at november 2004, I hope.

Someone said on the Internet, that most of the today's DVD players can read this type of DVD+RW DL format. Please write a report here about results. Good luck! Otherwise this is an EXCELLENT player! The best for price up to 300 Euro/500 USD. Only DivX support is missing, but new Panasonic players will be on a market soon, I hope.

Backup was made on the DVD/RW LG4120B(firmware A102) with software DVD Shrink 3.2 Panasonic S47 don´t read this medium and show on display failure "U11". :-((( On my PC backup DVD+R DL work normaly.

CVD? $100 1 days 10 of 10 Comments: so far no complaints. plays pos GQ media fine. plays both dvd-r and +r. no glitches, freezing or skipping. bought it to replace an apex ad-800. apex would constantly freeze on +r and randomly on -r. the s47 is money well spent.

CVD? $? 2 days 9 of 10 Comments: just got it from ecost for $83 us, with no tax and no shipping. i have had an s25 for two years in a very hot tv stand enclosure and it has no problems with heavy use and a lot of dirty and scratched kids disks. this unit has a few more bells and wistles like component and digital audio out. I also love the incremental zoom as I two of my televisions are 19" and I like to shave just a bit of 2.35 widescreen films on those tv's. OK I am not an expert on determining actual maker of disks but here is what has worked off my burned dvds(essentially everything I tried): ridata -r 4x (silver top no label) memorex dvd-r 4x (silver top also) maxell yellow top -r verbatim -r "by general" phillips +r phillips +rw IO am going to be getting an f87 s which has 5.1 to hook up to my 5.1 system and larger television soon.

No freezing etc.

XVCD bitrate works fine altough couldnt use other resolutions than standard. MP3 support is very good with multi-remaster boasting classical music. Works very well as a CD player and is as good as a CD player in this price range. Havent tested DVD-Audio or Highmat yet. Slim and nice design. Super player.
