I have flashed my Philips dvdrw416n to a HP300n and now it's possible to change bitsetting on DVD+RW discs. It plays dvd movies on DVD+R and DVD+RW perfectly. I've tried a DVD+RW full of mp3 and it plays perfectly.

CVD? $? over 1 year No rating DVD-MP3 Comments: Considering the amount of money these things cost, they leave alot to be desired. Just had it repaired because it was displaying F498 error code on DVD. It cost 47 quid to resolder (NOT REPLACE) 2 ic's under the dvd tray. I could (should) have bought a Yamada DVX-6600 for 48 quid from EBuyer that plays anything AVI's WMA, etc. and sold it as faulty on Ebay. Excuse me while I kick myself,... owwwww It doesn't play DVD-MP3, It stutters on CD-R's (VCD/SVCD) my cheapo players happily play. Only thing it has going for it is the VCR built in. It is more cost effective to keep buying the cheaper and upgradeble "play anything" alternatives to get new features than an expensive to buy, flipping expensive to fix, quickly becoming archaic machine like this. I'll stick to El Cheapo APEX, CYBERHOME, YAMADA etc from now on. LESSON LEARNT.

CVD? $? over 1 year 7 of 10 Comments: For those of you who want to play DVD+RW discs on this machine, you need to change the compatability bit of the disc to 2 for them to be usable. On a Philips based DVD recorder you do this by opening the draw put in the disc you wish to change (DO NOT CLOSE THE DRAW), press 2,and keep it pressed, on the remote control until the draw closes, the disc will now be encoded as a DVD-ROM disc and it will play. DVD+R discs are finalised as DVD-ROM discs automatically and that is why they play without the mod. PS if you want to change the compatibility bit back to it's normal setting follow the above but press button 1 on the remote control.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I Burned some SVCD's on a DVD using guides here. first i burned 3 NTSC movies, worked like a charm! good quality and everything! BUT, when i burned 3 PAL movies, sound and picture sometimes freezed and sound fucked up. Don't know why.

MP3 WMA CVD? $400 N/A 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename Comments: This VCR is really surprising. I have had 9 other vcrs, and this is by far the best in all repects. Very smooth transport, great picture. can copy a DVD direct to tape if there is no Macrovision on the DVD. A lot of problems with DVD-Rs though. Have to try several times to get it to start, and often stutters and even stops. No problem with DVD-RW though. The DVD-Rs play fine on my old Toshiba and my Pioneer DV-747. The DVD-Rs are BulkPac, TDK, and several white label brands recorded with PrimoDVD or Nero 5580. Great sound on this machine.

SVCD works quite well, but sometimes freezes, this time playing originial DVD-R helps,after playing SVCDs is working.... DVD-R s I tried: ================ Fuji DVD-R freezes TDK DVD-R freezes Primedisc DVD-R freezes but BASF (EMTEC) DVD-R works well !!! maybe I should visit the service ?

N/A No rating DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename Comments: I know this shouldn't be posted here, but for those of you struggling with DVD+RW heres how I do it. I have a HP DVD200i and use the provided compatability bit program from HP. You need to do this on each DVD+RW disk you create. I too contacted Panasonic and they told me that the played will not play DVD+R(W) disks. This is NOT TRUE, the player plays both DVD+R and DVD+RW disks perfectly.

N/A No rating Comments: Frustrated user, I have been trying my DVD+R and +RW disks in this player and they dont work. Picking up comments from others about the bit mode 2????? require changing but not knowing how to acheive this. I put the question to Panasonic direct and this was the response for information; It is not possible to play DVD+R and DVD+RW on any of our units. Nor can they be modified to do so. Please refer to your instruction book for a list of playable discs. Sorry to disappoint you. Kind regards, Customer Support Any other ideas?

Can programme number buttons to jump to selected stills but cannot pause show or skip forward or back despite PBC control on. Anyone know how this can be achieved, please? Using VCDEasy.

TDK DVD-RW Mirror DVD-RW Pioneer 2* DVD-RW Datasafe Media DVD-RW Zero Defex DVD-R FWS 4 * DVD-R And countless CD-R's. Seems to perform well with SVCD From what I have tested so far, the only drawback is no WMA support. Yet to try DVD-VCD, DVD-MP3, XSVCD

The rf-cable in the combo, 1 scart from the combo to the tv and 1 scart from my satellite-decoder to the tv. Now when i'm watchin dvd i see from the beginning vertical lines and subtitles from a different channel. When i play video i don't have this problem. Why is this??? Thanx

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: just recently bought this machine i thought it was very annoying to set up if you try to play on a dolby digital tv you will find that you will get dolby digital but you will get no sound on your vcr you have to change the settings every time you use it design fault same with the toshiba combi.[not very good for such a wellknown brand lazy testing]suggest buy seperates instead.

Although Panasonic only state that it will play DVD-R disk, it also plays DVD+R/RW perfectly. For DVD+RW you need to switch the compatability bit to mode 2. I have had no problems whatsoever playing various brands of CDR/RW disks. I have tested VCD, audio and MP3 disks. When playing MP3 disks you can easily create a play list, simply by browsing though the folders/files and adding files as you go. Folders are supported, nested folders are not supported. The picture quality is very good as is the sound quality. It is not possible to copy protected DVD disks to the build in feature rich video player although you can copy home made and none protected DVD's. I am really pleased with this player.
