Comments:
I agree with other folks: by all means, it is an outstanding player. I have owned, or tested a number of players with DivX support, and there were always problems or shortcomings, like bad picture or sound with some codecs, sound out of sync with picture, problems with aspect ratio, problems with subtitles, too picky about the media, too noisy drives etc etc etc. It is amazing how difficult it was to find a model without major problems. Now we have a winner: the S295 is what I chose for myself after about a week of testing.

The advantages are:
- very quiet drive
- absolutely no problems with DivX/XVid playback
- very flexible zoom featuring 1% increments (amazing)
- eats all kind of media, multisession DVD+R/RW are supported
- no problems with subtitles, umlauted chars are OK, subtitles have black background
- multiple speed rewind/FF plus "time search" feature
- very extensive menu with lots of settings about video and sound
almost too much! but there is also a quick-setup mode.
- remembers the position of last played video and prompts to continue playing
if disk still in drive
- QPEL is supported

The disadvantages (yes there are some):
- the subtitle font is a bit too small, and you cannot change size nor position on the screen
there is a menu item for setting subtitle offset, but it doesn't work with DivX subtitles
subtitles also do not support tags like ,
- packed bitstream plays jerky, need to use MPEG4Modifier
- strange "AV enhancement" feature virtually destroys the picture (strong watercolor look, details are gone)
fortunately you can turn it off with one keypress

Conclusion: highly recommended as either DVD or DivX player.

This new Panasonic S295 DVD-Player is worth every cent. The picture quality is awesome, the drive is silent, you have many useful options and best of all - it plays all of my DVD-R's without problems. Run and buy this thing - it's a bargain plus it got many positive reviews from the experts in different magazins.
I recommend using Verbatim-Media because they are the best (reliable, not too expensive and very compatible!), but this player "eats" everything.

Thanks,Panasonic!

The best Player I ever had.(and I had some)
Plays Buy-DVDs were other Players failed, plays all DVD +- R/RW and +R-DL (with ROM Biztset) (I tested no others why should I if Nero offers this superb feature).

Missing : MPG on DVD, MP3 on DVD.
No Problems with DIVx and XVID.
Tested it with a DIVx/XVID Test CD:
GMC and Bitrates over 2500-3000 do not work.
All other Muxing and Resolutions up to 720*576 (PAL) worked.
Does not recognize Audio labeld as:
Filename.AC3 and OGG Filename.OGG
Everything else works as promised and flawless.

Drive is very quiet.
I love it. :-)

Regards BergH
