NEED HELP ANYBODY!
My player suddenly stopped playing DVDs (region 1 & ALL). It can still play VCDs and CD-Rs.
There was no error codes. Display shows NO PLAY.
On the left side where it supposed to show what media you're playing, when I put in DVDs, it says there DVD VIDEO, instead of just DVD.
Any help is appreciated. |

This player supposed to play DVD-RAM, but I haven't been able to as of yet. May be I'm doing something wrong, but the DVD-RAM played fine on my LG-4040BI. The DVD-RAM was formatted as a UDF 2.0 disk. Is this the problem?
The player plays DVD-R flawlessly. Haven't try other disks yet.
The player plays movie DVD's very well. Excellent progressive scan. Highly rated for video quality. There's also DVD-Audio. |

Got this player 6 mos ago from eCost.com. Writing the review only now because I got a DVD-R/RW burner recently.
As stated elsewhere, this player works only with VCD, but supports the SVCD to VCD hack.
Seems to have good support for DVD-R/RW media. Have not had any trouble with unbranded media (see DVD media section here for more details -- look at Princo, Maxell, TDK)
To author/burn DVD, I've been using DVDXCopy, SmartRipper, Nero 5.5.10.0, MyDVD, and DVD Pictureshow
Very pleased with the player overall. Would like to see it switch layers a little smoother, and the MP3 support could be better. Really wanted SVCD support until I got the DVD burner. Now, I dont care anymore.

| I have not tested any of the other formats of disks, but am going to attempt shortly. I bought the player at Universal Studios employees store when I worked for Dreamworks, so I bought it for $395 back in 1999 when it first came out (had to wait about a month for them to get it in). I absolutley love this machine. The only gripe I have is the setup menuing is a little difficult to manuver in and the on screen mini menus (for setup during play without using the mainmenus) is a little difficult to see and the icons are somewhat criptic. |

This is an excellent DVD player. The fact that it is a progressive player with scaling in progressive mode is why I bought it, because my widescreen TV locks into full in progressive mode (which isn't a good thing if the source material isn't widescreen). The de-interlacing could be better though. There is no chroma bug.
The remote is OK, but not great. I wish they had a more ergonomic layout.
It also works with DVD-RAM, as advertised. I've tried DVD-RAM from a DVD-RAM camcorder as well as a backup onto DVD-RAM from a non-encrypted DVD. All the menus are maintained and everything.
SVCD doesn't work, and XVCD seemed kinda dicey (needed lower bitrates), but worked. I couldn't care less though, since I'd rather just use DVD-R (which works). VCD works too if you're into Asian commercial movies.
MP3 works and sounds good, but the MP3 file access seems almost like an afterthought. Again, I don't really care though since on my home theater system I use the original CDs anyway. (I use MP3 on my computers, etc.)
DVD-Audio sounds great, although I wish there were bass management settings. It's kinda moot though, since so few DVD-A discs are out there that I'd buy anyway.
If you need a good quality progressive scan player that does scaling (something that the Faroujda chip doesn't) then this is it, especially considering the price. Added bonuses are DVD-Audio, MP3 and DVD-RAM support. |

Many of the users are stating the RP91 doesn't play SVCD. This is true, however, you can burn SVCD's in a fashion that will allow the RP91 to burn them, here's a link:

I've tested this and it works great! Have fun. |

| I had it for a single day. Chose it based on the advertized capabilities of it on this site. However, SVCD just don't work. Tested with at least 10 disk encoded at various SVCD speed and always the same problem. The CPU can't keep pace with it. Fortunately enough was able to return it. Bought a Pioneer DV-440 instead and really satisfied |
