Do not pick up the player with dvd inside - they are not contained they wuill slide around. Make sure the stop command has been used and remove all dvd's. Other than that a superb product which has outlasted the GE 5 changer. These things suffer from power supply cooling - don't stack any units.

Have used the F-87 for about two years. Very pleased with its performance. Has played every DVD I have thrown at it. I burn my Discs with DVD Decrypter.
Plays my MP3 CD discs without problems. Love the random shuffle feature although it does move between discs slower than I would like.
Major drawback is that it does not play DivX or Xvid discs. |

| About VCD's resuming playback: The player does support it, but only with PBC disabled. I don't know of many other players, if any, which resume playback on VCDs. |

| Even though the book says no dvd+r it handles them beautifully. Far superior to my samsung I replaced with this player. on screen display was excellent. Plan on trying more things in the furture but everything I use a standalone for (SVCD/VCD/DVD-R/DVD+R/JPEG/MP3) works great. Only thing I would like better is if it handled dvd-mp3, and I might not have found the right setting for that yet. I am very pleased with its ability to handle different media types. I usually buy quality expensive stuff because, for me, nothing less ever worked in other players. However I am encouraged buy its quality to try to save money! |

Just bought it. Mainly use it to play VCD.
Drawbacks:
1. No VCD Resume Playback. (Major disappointment)
2. DVD Resume Playback is lost when tray is opened using Disc Exchange.
3. Remote control not multibrand. |

Very nice player. I spent a lot of time with cheap DVD players, but finally got frustrated by cheap firware and the like. After looking around, I decided to spend a little bit more money and see what that would get me and was not disappointed.
I very much like the menu system, which is head and shoulders above the cheaper players. It may not seem like a big deal, but it really makes a difference to me. I also like the fact that you can save a point on the DVD and turn it off, while it cues back to that point automatically the net time that disc is inserted.
It's played everything I've thrown at it so far, except JPGs burned on a DVD+RW as a data disc. It didn't recgnize the format, so I guess I'll keep having to use CDs for that. |

| Tried three Verbatim DVD+R DL disks, burned with NEC ND-3500A, firmware 2.16 (factory) and Nero; none of the disks played correctly. One only played the special features, not the feature movie, the others did not play at all. All disks were burned as DVD-ROM, one with extended lead-out. |

Seems like a very nice player.
I would have kept it except for one big failure: its inability to convert PAL -> NTSC. Very frustrating as it could convert PAL SVCDs to NTSC. But for PAL DVDs you either need a standalone converter or a multisync/multisystem TV to use this changer. In other words, PAL DVDs did play, but the output was PAL, not NTSC. I could not find a hack to enable conversion (is there a crippled internal converter chip since it's converting PAL SVCDs?).
Note that the above means a region-free hack is NOT needed - but a conversion hack is.
This seems a good SVCD player as it played NTSC and PAL SVCDs correctly (i.e. NTSC output in the case of PAL SVCD), including selectable 2nd stereo stream in mid-play, which seems to cause problems on some other players/changers.
It also played non-standard mpeg2 *authored* titles ie SVCD type streams but with noncompliant frame sizes. I did not try putting just bare (unauthored) SVCD-compliant MPEG files on media.
It handled every type of media I had, including crap no-name CDRWs and high quality 10x (Mitsubishi) CDRWs, Taiyo Yuden 16x CD-Rs, 4x Maxell (Japan) DVD-Rs and Memorex 4x (Ricoh Japan) DVD+RWs. |

no price for $110 in this form, but that is price with delivery from ecost.
have just checked six different brands of media -r and read them all, as well as phillips dvd+r and +r/w (although the manual says no +r, +r/w it reads the ones I have).
I know people like more specifics but this is preliminary. Love the fine control of incremental zoom panasonic has, especially useful on smaller televisions.
the 5.1 out is a plus for me as well. |
