If you can, consider yourself very lucky. This player was never meant to play anything but retail factory pressed DVD's and it shows. It will only play VCD's that are recorded on CD-RW discs and even then its not a for sure thing. It's very picky!

CVD? $200 over 1 year 10 of 10 Comments: Great 5-disc player. Plays all the DVD+R's I throw at it, and most of the DVD-R's (one didn't work, which I don't think was the player's fault). I'm very satisfied with this player and its ability to play DVD's I burn, and would recommend it. If you can pick one up used, go for it.

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Imation CD-RW (4-10x) with VCD created from Adobe 6.5/Main Concept 1.2 mpeg encoder and burned with Roxio Easy CD creator 5 plays fine, as does an audio CD (Disk-at-once). Same programs and files on CD-Rs created for audio CD and VCD don't work. DVD-R from Sonic and an HP burner play fine.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: All DVD+Rs works great. DVD+RW was not recognized. I did not change any bitsettings. I recorded old VHS tapes as well as movies directly from analog or digital TV on Verbatim DVD+R and DVD+RW using Philips DVDR985 stand alone recorder. I used SP, LP, and EP mode -- all DVD+Rs work fine.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: So far I have only tested VCD on CD-RW and DVD+RW discs. Have had no problems with the DVD+RW discs. I used a dru120a burner and sony media.

N/A No rating Comments: NONE CDR worked, tried 10 kinds, no luck. Some CDRW works: HP 4X, TDK 10X, HP 10X, seems like all 10X works like a charm. My other CDRWs do not work: PNY 4X 80min, Infodisk 4X 74min Still have some other CDRWs, lazy to try.

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: I have tested several brands of CD-R's and they don't work. All CD-RW's i have tried work. Burned movies on DVD-RW and DVD-R and they all work fine. VCD's play fine, SVCD's do not work.

CVD? $400 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I bought this player (C220D) used pretty cheap, cuz the component hookup gives superb picture, and it's a changer. It couldn't read cdrw's, then I tried the mod for the A-120, like other's. It worked with Verbatim cdrw's for music. Then I tried vcd's, no go. I kept at it till this worked. Convert with v. 2.53 TMPENG at DVD Low Resolution setting is 352 x 240 CBR 1850, 29.97 fps,MPG.1. Then use v. 5.58 nero, burn at SVCD, uncheck create standard, check try to fit disk, in compatibility check non standard and non standard. I used video captured with AIW Radeon, 352 x 240, 2.4 Mbps, Mpg 1. Worked fine with Verbatim CDRW's.

CVD? $400 N/A 4 of 10 Comments: Tested a VCD burnt onto CD-R at 8x generic media; no luck. VCD worked on 4x generic rewritable media. Tested DVD-RW (generic media) copy of Zoolander made from DivX file, encoded to MPEG2 DVD with TMPGEnc, authored + burned with SpruceUP (cuz guides for DVDit were down); would not play. Same Zoolander movie from DVD-RW copied to DVD-R (generic media) worked fine. So it seems that the player will not read DVD-RW, but will read DVD-R.

CVD? $400 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: I burned a Vcd with the cd-rw that came with my cd bruner and it worked great. At the time I thought I would be able to burn VCDs at will. After trying 4 different brands, all of which were listed by someone as working ether on this dvd player of some other Panasonic dvd player, none worked. Only the one cd-rw that shipped with my LG cd-burner. Then I saw an entry under the Panasonic A120 by a Rob Bruce telling how to adjust the laser power. I performed this procedure on my dvd player and it worked. All cd-rws that I have worked, Imation 10x, Memorex Platinum 4x and STI 4x. This player is a little more complicated that the A120, A lot of screws to take out, If you turn it to much clockwise the DVD tray will not close. I have burned some xvcds video worked but no audio still testing.

CVD? $400 N/A 2 of 10 Comments: This player sucks in all aspects except a)it is a 5 disc player b)it does DD and DTS. My old Memorex CDRW will read on the player but the new ones will not. I haven't found anything else to work in the player. I will be making this player go away.

I used the guides listed on this site to encode and burn the VCD, using TMPGEnc and Nero.
