CVD? $50 7 days 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX DVD-RAM Comments: I give the Pacific 1001 a rating of 7 mainly because of the MP3 long filename and ID3 tag support. I have had the player for a week, and although after speaking to the helpline at ASDA, this player is not meant to support DVD+R/RW!!! However, it does support DVD-R/RW, (S)VCD natively, MP3, CDDA. I have played my own DVD-R/RW discs, created using my Emprex DRW IDE1008 Dual 8X recorder, and they play straight off and with no problems at all. One thing I do notice is using the Digital Coax out, CDDA discs have clicks and crackles at loud passages, not sure if it's a problem with my particular player, or else?? But for the price, a good player

CVD? $50 N/A 3 of 10 DivX DVD-RAM Comments: this machine is available in asda,£30,it is a pacific 1001z,the remote has been changed,I have had one of these machine before,had to return it remote was very dodgy,this new model looks identical except the remote,have tried packard bell dvd+r,will play but very iffy,break up,freezing,tried maxell dvd+r recorded on a philips dvdr70 again starts to play and freezes,draw gets stuck,it will play vcd but there is a kind of jitter to the picture,used mr data cdr,have not tried unencoded mpegs,or jpegs,even whent a bit funny when playing a brand new copy of "texas chainssaw massacre"(2003)this machine is alright for playing pre pressed dvd,but that is it,it says that it will play vcd,cdr,cdrw,but not very well,and id forget about dvd+r/rw,personaly id buy something else,I am taking this peice of sh*t back to asda.

CVD? $50 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: The Pacific 1001. A good little player from Asda. I bought it a month ago for £29.99. Its now gone down to £24 and well worth the money. I tried both the Pacific 1000 hack and the Pacific 1002 hack. I don't know which worked, but I can play Region 1 discs. I tend to think its the Pacific 1002 hack and I choose search instead of clear. It plays DVD-r disks well without the noise of the 1002. Haven't tried other media on it yet. Nice and slim and compact to carry around.

For £70 you just cant go wrong.

N/A No rating Comments: anyone else having problems with SVCD, sometimes it plays them no problem, othertimes it will freeze, the thing is it always freezes at the same parts, I've tried burning on a different cd, thinking it may be a dodgy one, tried burning at slower speeds but nothing works, to get past the part I have to stop the cd completely, then fast forward to a second past the freeze

DVD, VCD, MP3 etc etc. Just bought a dvd+ rewriter, using the supplied dvd+r disk (philips), copied a dvd (using dvd-decrypter) and tested this on the player. It works fine aswell. Looks might not be the best but hardware wise, it is A1. Great plyer, excellent value for money. Any Quaestions,?? feel free to email me

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Just bought this today ,asda £69.99 3 year no quibble waranty, i have chucked about everything i have got at it everything played, multi region, vcd svd on dvd-r got some cheap disks they work too, very good for an unbeatable price, disks used : infinity, disk planet, memorex, maxell, bulk paq, as i said evrything i had worked...... vcd svcd burned using nero, and ulead dvd picture maker for slideshows

N/A No rating Comments: Pacific 1002: The best advantage to this unit is the Free Extended warranty from Asda. The display is similar to most other DVD players and the CD tray seems fairly firm. I was expecting a cheap and chatty machine but feel overall its good value for money. Since it’s made by the Germans I would expect it to be fairly well constructed (Although I might get told its made in Timbuktu). So far its plays all VCD/SVCD I have thrown in with no jittering, as good as my Eclipse 695 which cost my £180 last year

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename Comments: update.... Pacific 1002. The player I had became faulty, loading a R2 DVD took ages & it only played it 1/5 times, just came up with 'no disc'. Just been to Asda(Bury) who exchanged it, no probs, & this one plays everything, including all my DVD-Rs :) Not tried any of the Macrovision or Region hacks I've seen on my new player yet. I've noticed a slight difference when using the Fast Forward, the first one said x1, x2, x4... in the top right corner on DVDs & VCDs. This one just has FF x1, x2, x4... in the left corner, & I'm sure the first player didn't have a zoom of x1.5 - maybe there are different batches or something.

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Just bought a Pacific 1002 for Asda for £69.83(3yr Guarantee) looks the part - plays VCDs, sVCDs, JPEGs, MP3s, CD-R(few makes) & CD-RW(Memorex), but I couldn't get it the play any DVD-Rs, tried different types (few white label, traxdata..) the one thing I thought it would play.. it didn't, just says 'no disc'. Region free, but no Macrovision hack yet?? Had a Apec 1100WB for about a month, played: DVD-Rs, VCD, sVCD, MP3s, JPEG, CD-R & CD-RWs. Region free, macrovision off. Great player until it broke, after a load clunking sound it wouldn't play any media for longer than +/- 25mins then it would freeze up. Back to Asda for a refund, no probs.

Plays all rewritable media I put in -R was recorded on a Pioneer a03 adn +R on a philips DVDR880, the shop says it plays VCD out of the box but I have not tested that yet.

CVD? $125 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Pacific 750 bought at ASDA for £85 Just new to dvd so i dont know much technically but this player has played everything i have put in it so far, mainly vcd copied onto 20p cdr and mp3 copied onto the same. Have just multiregioned it by opening tray with remote, pressing 8421, then enter until ALL was displayed. Have ordered a region 1 disc to test it. Picked up a few hints on this site to get sound/picture sync better on some copies. Overall an excellent entry level player (if you can find one !!)

CVD? $100 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: Just bought a Pacific 1002 from ASDA £86. Has a problem with sound when through composite (some kind of feedback noise), but AV works a treat. I've tested VCD and SVCD on DataSave Media 15p and both work great. Have yet to test CDRW, DVDR and DVDRW. Tried a JPG CD with Images in directories, not expecting it to work, but it did, although the images are a little fuzzy, there was no flicker. Havn't tried a Kodax Photo CD. Nice Player, if it wasn't for the problem with composite sound I might have rated it 9 or 10. I highly recommend this for the Price.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I have tried all makes and brands of media and had no problems at all. Even works fine on 10p no brand blanks. Warning if you burn faster than 8 spead you can get a problem with lipsinc going out. Have now started using dvd-r & dvd-rw with out any problems so far. Using Data safe generation 3 disks to put dvd rips onto and both R & RW play fine. Only problem I have had in the six months of use so far is that if you put a dvd-r or dvd-rw in the player that hasn`t been authered correctly (ie wont work in anything)the player wont play or give up the dvd-r. One fine and cheap player get one if you can.
