CVD? $? 14 days 9 of 10 DivX Comments: I'd have given it 10 but the only reason for 9 is that at times it does not play a -R ISO image on a +RW media. However it'll play everything on a -RW media. The coolest part is that it even plays an ISO file directly i.e you don't have to burn an ISO on your DVD as in video fromat but you can just copy the ISO file as a data file on your DVD and this player will play it like a charm. It plays Mpeg2, Mpeg and Divx formats as well. The picture quality is awesome and so is the sound. The other -ve is it doesn't have a component video out, which is a standard across any line of dvd players.S-video is fainting away and HDMI OR component is the language people speak nowadays. But the + point is that it comes with a good quality HDMI cable. I guarantee you that the overall product will not disappoint you at all. You'll be more than satisfied at the end of the day.

CVD? $? 1 days 5 of 10 DivX XviD Comments: Well, since i'm waiting for this damn format "war" to end, I decided to hold off on either the Toshiba HD or Sony Blu-Ray. The most important reason being, I want it to play EVERYTHING and ANYTHING I throw at it. To complement my Panny HDTV, I decided to spring for a cheap (price, not quality) upconverting DVD player from Toshiba (the SD-5000, to be exact). And, while that played DiVx and XvId or whatever they're called, there was no hack that allowed me to play my other region DVDs. After some brief research, I decided to spring for this Oppo. So far, so good. However, the only reason I decided to comment on this product, was because no one commented on whether or not CD-Rs would work. So, as i'm putting this baby through it's paces, i'd thought i'd let potential buyers know that it DOES play CD-Rs...in case that's a deal breaker lol ;)

CVD? $300 2 days 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: Plays all that I need it to play, with loads of different recordable DVD brands. Upscaling works a treat (although only slightly better than what my LCD does). Audio is very good (a bit more upfront and not so neutral as my Harman Kardon, which costs more and sucks on compatibility). Haven't tried DVD-Audio (VERY rare over here). Overall, an excellent player that I would recommend to anyone who wants a great DVD player, is willing to wait out the Blue-Ray/HD-DVD format war, and who doesn't need an audiophile CD player.

CVD? $250 30 days 10 of 10 XviD DVD-MPEGISO Comments: I have been using this player since Christmas, and am very impressed with the picture quality of upscaled DVDs. Like Oppo's 971H this model upscales using the faroudja chipset and will output up to 1080P (DVD playback must be stopped in order to switch output resolution). Will also upscale DivX and Xvid and supports maximum resolution: 720x576 pixels bitrate: 8Mbits. Player will convert PAL to NTSC and can be made region free - press "setup" on the remote, press "9210", press "0", than press "setup" again. Audio formats supported include DVD audio and super audio CD in addition to MP3 and WMA. HDMI cable included, however no component out.
