CVD? $200 over 1 year 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: Just a really great, stable and reliable player. I have an audiophile audio system as well, and the sound is equivalent to a hi end $10k CD player. Highly recommended.

I'm upgrading right now to the DV-SP501 because I want progressive scan and this player does not play dvd-r media contrary to what this site says. I have been using my Apple Powerbook to burn onto both Memorex 4x DVD-R media and the Apple 2x DVD-R media, and neither of the discs worked. They would play fine for about 50-60minutes, and then out of nowhere the disc would start skipping and and pixelating and would sometimes just freeze the player. Before I started burning DVD-R's though this player was great. It played SVCD's, VCD's, MP3 CD's no problem, a ton of stuff that wouldn't play in other players. I had the DVD player for probably about a year. Amazing picture quality with my Sony 27" Wega TV, but it was time for an upgrade anyways since getting a 30" Wega HDTV, and the progressive scan will be nice. I never had problems playing any rented discs that had scratches or anything like that. The player seriously played just about everything you threw at it and with great quality. I hope that my new Onkyo can match this quality.

N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I just bought a liteon 411s dvd burner the onkyo plays all brands of media that i have ripped. I have lent these dvd to friends to watch on there dvd players and only 50% work on theirs which have been lg akia and jvc players all seem to freeze up with in the first 20 mins of the movie. where as the onkyo hasn;t skipped a beat played all fine. My sugestion would be if you want quality buy onkyo if you want to budget buy some cheap unheard of chinesse brand like tde ($80 au from crazy clarks) i just purchased this to replace my girlfriends akai so she can watch all the movies i got.

CVD? $450 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: This player is very stable and gives quality in its supported formats. In SVCD format you must use CBR (Constant Bit Rate), not variable because sound will freeze sometimes. At CBR you can use 2520 kbit/s. The VCD/SVCD menus are working. I just haven't tested CVD but SVCD subtitles didn't works. :((( Anyway I see it can handles 2 audio tracks in SVCD! I haven't experienced problems with DVDs. It is a high quality, stable built DVD player. I'm very proud that I bought this:) It offers more than its manual says, that's why I give it 10.
