Have played several dozen DVD+R's burned with Nero 6 & 7 using various media (RiData, Memorex, TDK) burned on NEC and SONY DVD burners, all of the disks played perfectly which is amazing since in their manual they specifically say that this unit does NOT support DVD+R & DVD+RW media.
Unit also played the year old DVD+RW disc that I have probably overwritten 50 times burned in my Lite-On DVD recorder deck.
So much for manuals *laughter* I am guessing that it will not play all DVD+R's but will play ones that are created using a standard DVD bitrate. |

I also burn my own DVDs, but I am using Memorex DVD+R DL (Double Layer) 2.4X and they work perfect. Actually they play even better than in my Sony DVD-NS575P Player.
I recommend trying the Memorex DVD+R DL. I bought them at Compusa.
Does anybody knows how to make this unit Region Free - Multiregion?

I am very dissapointed with this player. Almost every disc I play skips and freezes. Since 95% of all the discs I play I burn myself, including several brands.
If all you play are rental or purchased movies, its a great player. if you burn your own - forget about it. |

The video quality is very good.
The first day I took the DV-CP702 out of box, I played 5 hours of non stop DVD+R discs (TDK, Memorex) with no problem. One of the disc I played in the unit was a Memorex (CMC) DVD+R with over 2 hour 40 minutes of video, this disc will not play in my Sony, it would freeze up and skip. This unit played the whole disc with no problem. I was suprised it played all of my DVD+R discs with no problem considering what was previously posted. |

Finally got around to trying burns on this player.
No problems with dvd-r discs.
Tried a svcd burned on cd-r and it played fine. Those reporting black and white are probably viewing a PAL encoded release as I had the same problem.
MP3 on cd-r works but the navigation is horrible. Long filenames aren't supported so it can be a pain finding a song.
I like how it will automatically switch to the next disc when finished playing a disc. Handy with releases on more than 1 cd/dvd
Will have to try other things such as putting mpeg files directly on a dvd-r disc (putting svcds on a dvd-r) |

| Had success, then some real trouble with DVD+R media. 1/3 went bad midway thru. Specs say it does not support +R and since trying -R media, backups seem to play fine. Player plays MP3's, but file names get truncated to almost unrecognizable in viewer. Also, will NOT play MP3's off a DVD-R. Allows changing 5 discs while playing a sixth. Slightly annoying power-up time (15 secs ?). Overall am happy with this player, but it can be a little finicky with DVD burns which play fine elsewhere. |

This is a great DVD changer. It plays a variety of media and changes discs relatively quickly.
My only problem is that it doesn't handle DVDs encoded with lower bit rates. I have played DVDs in the machine created using average VBR settings between 4.5 and 6 kb/s. DVDs that play just fine in a dozen other players ranging from a $400 portable pansonic to a $75 Toshiba. Anything encoded below an average of about 5kbs will not read properly in this machine. Many freezes and skips throughout playback.
I called Onkyo support and technicians there did not have any suggestions as to a minimum bitrate to encode discs for this player.
