The player has very good compatibility and picture quality is ok. Features are just what I need and want. Rating could be 9. But here is a big but. The player has great heat problem. After couple hours of continuous usage you get more and more reading errors (video picture gets jumpy and finally DVD don't play at all). Same discs work well when the player has not been used as long (=when the player is less hot). And I can't imagine any other reason than the heating problem, why my player stopped working yesterday. Disc spins about 20 sec and after that spinning stops, but the blue lights leaves on in the player (forever?). No picture to TV from DVD. No Nextbase logo screen. Not even setup screen. Just black TV monitor no matter what I do. I have used the player totally about 30-40 hours, so I think it should last a bit longer. If not, then it could have been nice to know that this is the most expensive player in the world. I have found same problems to happen for some other people, so I'm not the only one. These problems forced me to give only rating of 1 for this player. Even if I actually like it very much. But even the most perfect player must atleast work.

CVD? $175 N/A No rating Comments: Further to my review at the bottom, my unit has gone faulty (which is not a huge problem, things do break) BUT I have sent them several emails, all of which have been ignored :o( Pretty awful customer service, I won't be buying from them again!

I send 7 mail to merconnet and dont respond to me. I have a portable DVD in a case beacause the backup of the films dont work (this backup work fine in more dvd and in a play station 2). fantastic. Merconnet the best of the best in steels. bye and sorry for my bad english.

CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: Plays purchased/rented DVDs perfectly and MP3 discs that I've burned myself using MusicMatch. Also works great with VCDs and SVCDs I've created using Nero Vision. I've found that when I try to play my home produced DVDs (produced with TMPGEnc DVD Author and burned using Nero on my Sony DRU500A on cheap "no name" media) this unit skips horrendously. The same DVDs play fine on my old JVC DVD player.

N/A No rating Comments: Superb bit of kit !! Plays everything Ive thrown at it so far and for £120 you cant go wrong. Just to add a note to Roberts excellent review, it does play DVD+R and DVD-R without a hitch.

CVD? $150 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: This is an awesome bit of kit! It has played everything I have put in including cheap unbranded CD-R's, branded CD-R's and CD-RW's on VCD and SVCD formats. It is multi region by default and will play R1 RCE dvd's. Outputs are composite, s-video and optical fiber and has in built 5.1 and dts decoders. It's size is also awesome, at just 138mm×165mm×30mm (L×W×H) which is about the size of 2 dvd cases on top of each other! You can also buy an adaptor to use it from a 12v supply in a car! There are 3 reasons I could only give it 9/10 ... • It is a little noisy when playing, but you only notice it in the quiet scenes. • I am not a fan of slim line remote controls. • You can't skip dvd intros which I've got used to on my Sony. These are the only things I can fault with it! I have yet to test DVD-R & RW as I don't have a writer (yet!) you can buy them from http://www.merconnet.com in the UK as well as anywhere else, it cost about £125 including delivery and import duty.
