CVD? $? 240 days 9 of 10 Comments: only would record with very few brands of dvd+ media until i DID upgrade 119b of firmware. improved this problem 100% now compatible with budget x 4 sp bulkpaq x 4 sp maxell x 4 sp maxell x 8 sp + some cheapest of the cheap unbranded before the upgrade only maxell 4sp would work now pleased with recorder connected to computer, and satellite box,and digital box. for the price am now well chuffed!!! Will keep informed about disk compatibility issues..

Each time they send me a new one but it keeps developing new problems each time. The icing on the cake is that after I sent in exactly what they asked for on the rebate, they came up with this packing slip request that they didn't even ask for originally. Anything to not pay the rebate. After all I spent in phone calls and returning the item, you would think their public relations would be better. Spend the money on a name unit that has a good rating. This one will only give you headaches.Trust me.

CVD? $200 90 days 4 of 10 Comments: I record VHS into the Mustek and they come out beautiful as long as I play it on the same maching or another home DVD player. As soon as i put into a video editing program like Ulead, the audio disappears and it reads, A3 Dolby, which it definently is not. My friend has every video program known to man and he has the same problem. The Mustek is corrupting the audio somehow and to me that become useless as that's the reason I bought it. I wonder if another brand DVD player would have the same problem? Any had the same problem. How did you fix it?

CVD? $250 360 days 3 of 10 Comments: Previously posted under wrong recorder Have had for 1 year this month. Had problems with recording DVD+R after taking 2 days and editing VHS tapes to DVD none would play in any of my DVD players after finalization was complete. Remote control doesn't work well either. Couldn't get anyone at Mustek to respond to my e-mails. Spent 2 days on the phone trying to talk to a tech. Finally got one on third day that had me on hold for 20 mins trying to find out why the DVD's I had weren't working (Memorex) Finally came back on the phone and told me they were having problems with that brand name try another brand. Brought different brand same problem. Called Mustek again this time was told to use DVD+RW. These worked fine(Memorex)but it was kind of a hit and miss. Sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't. Very frustrating. Now, for the past 2 weeks have been unable to record from tv get distorted sound when recording and most times DVD recorder door will not open. Have to unplug and let sit for few hours to get the eject button to open the door. Today no matter what I've done door will not open to insert disk or get the one out that is in there. All in all I guess you get what you paid for and nothing last forever, but at $250 I expected a lot more. I've learned also that I won't purchase another Mustek product. Have had trouble with a camera (MDC5000) that is by them also.

CVD? $300 240 days 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO Comments: In the beginning my model (a Nordmende renamed version of Mustek dvdr100a, absolutely estetical identical to Dvdr100a!!)was very poor :no compatibility with almost all brand of DVD+R ,image frozen, hang, blocky end poor quality, remote inoperative or slow to reponse!!!) so i've decided to open it to clean the laser lens, and im surprised to notice that internal was marked mustek dvdr100a!! I've downloaded from Mustek site (.com)the latest firmware version and after that, the recorder born to new life!!! it works fine, almost 100% compatibility with all brands of dvd+r or rw,no more blocks or frozen image , regionfree, the only bugs survive is the very poor functionality of remote control. For 249 euro (300 usdollars) is a bargain!!

N/A 4 of 10 Comments: I had mine for 8 months - worked great, then the drive died! Only a 90day warranty, so I was screwed. I rippped the box apart and saw that the drive was a standard dvd+rw drive, but I couldn't find a model. I called mustek tech support, and I was actually able to talk to a mustek repair guy, who said they come assembled from Taiwan, so he didn't know what drive they used either. I actually threw in a couple of dvd+rw to see if it would work, and I could get some functionality but nothing was really a match. Any suggestions? I would discourage anyone from buying, since the build quality is poor, plus I had the same problem everyone else did with the incredibly poor remote!

CVD? $125 1 days 7 of 10 Comments: This recorder is an amazing value, but has several serious bugs. The big one is that it adds some kind of simulated surround effect to the analog audio output. Whether it's coming from a DVD, CD, or the tuner it sounds almost like one of the TV's speakers is connected out of phase. I can't find anything in the menus to change the audio output mode. The digital output is fine, but don't buy one if you plan to use it with a pro-logic system. If anyone knows how to turn off this feature, e-mail me. Other bugs I've noticed are that it always defaults to the composite video input instead of remembering the last channel you were on. It tends to turn on subtitles even when they are set to off as the default. When playing a letterbox DVD and you switch to tuner mode it compresses the picture vertically. The manual is very poorly written. Not even the basic features are fully covered. The goood points are that it has an RGB output, it's easy to make region free and it can convert PAL to NTSC and NTSC to PAL. I installed the firmware update and didn't notice any changes. It's still region free.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: My DVDR100A has just gone back to the store. I made a firmware upgrade, I could use DVDs from Sentinel, Platinium, Sony, More and TDK. I wasn't at all pleased with it because I couldn't watch my newlly made DVDs in my PC. The image is terrible. Some DVDs' indexs missed some records or duplicated them. Buy at your own risk...

CVD? $500 240 days 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: DVD+R are not recognized on the device I bought (tried several brands). Mustek helpdesk advised me to fix the problem by burning on a CD-R a .mic file available on their web site and playing the so burned CD in the device. The operation failed. Mustek told it was presumably a lens problem and offered to check the device(still to do)under warranty (one year expiring in December 2004) Further a CD-R burned with MP3 files was not readable and remained locked in the device (I had to open it !) To be continued after the device has been sent back to Mustek (scheduled in September)

The region hacks will take care of the region issues, but will this play PAL dvds or only NTSC if bought in N.A.? Thanks for any help!

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I Have got the same problem as other users with edited dvd, in the mustek works fine, but I have tried in many of others dvd's devices or pc dvd players, and in anyone it worked. I am sure this is problem of mustek device As some one wrote before, with automatic chapter it is detected in others dvd devices. The distance controller works very bad, in the documentation says 7 meters, but you must stay at maximum at 1 meter of the device. When I recorder and play in the mustek device the screen is good, but when I play in a computer in the top of the screen appear a narrow stripe blurred. some advice : -dvdx works fine to extract any dvd to record as a divx file. - if you want to reutilize a previous recorded dvd+r in a computer, you should first erase with nero but as a udf file, not ntfs. The mustek driver only works with udf format.

CVD? $300 N/A 5 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MP3 ID3 TAG DVD-RAM Comments: Bought as GRUNDIG DVDR550, from Dixons. The original one bought was bug-ridden, with the machine freezing occassionally after a recording; recording in black&white; crashing if more than two buttons are pressed together. It was then replaced after 3 weeks with another DVDR550 from Dixons. The second one seems to be behaving itself, in fact, it seems as though the firmware is more stable (perhaps it has a more updated firmware?). Have had none of the problems I had with the first one. It has now gone up in price to £270. If you are thinking of buying this, you may want to consider another, more reliable company. If you bought one for about £200, you may want to try and swap it for a newer one. The "improved" software is a definate improvement. Saying that, perhaps the new firmware is the reason why the price has gone up so drastically! Overall, I am happy with the second recorder. Does exactly what it say on the tin, DVD+ is a good replacement for my old VCR, and I have yet to find a player (a variety of UK-store bought players) that refuses to play any of my DVD recordings.

Recorded quality is above avg with HQ/SP setting. Only 90 days warranty. Recommend to purchase 2 years extended warranty.

(Thnk's Mustek !). Even after that my "multizone bought" recorder became a Zone 2 machine ... (Look on the DVD Hack section on this site if you need. David W Scott tip can help !) Now I can record in the disks without rewriting the last recorded title. I still cannot make my other players at home to recognize the edited chapter information, but the problem could be that my other (older) players could not recognize all the .ifo information on this disks ...
