Also available badged as FUJITEL and the remote does have an ON/OFF button on it.
Region free out of the box and also has the ability to connect to video senders - nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say-no-more. ;-)
Sound quality is very good and the picture quality is good, but you can see the quantitisation errors when, say, someone shines a torch in a dark room (in the film). Also doesn't tend to render some dark scenes as well as certain other budget players, but by no means is it the worst!
Had problems with it locking up occasionally, but if you clean the DVD and power cycle the player it then goes on to work fine unless the disc is badly scratched.
All-in-all, a fantastic player and well worth the money - you'll not be disappointed.

Purchased in December 2002. Will play every single thing it has been asked to without a single problem, especially DVD-R and DVD+R recorded on Panasonic and Phillips recorders.

Plays everything. Very versatile player for only £69.99 from Staples (UK). Bought May 2003.
The only negative thing about this player is the lack of a POWER OFF button on the remote. Also I haven't managed to find a working OneForAll code.
DVD-MP3s burned with Nero (v5.5.10.15) in ISO3_DVD(Mode1).

Mirror DVD-MIRR110
Good Points
Multi-Region remote Hack
Slim line silver DVD player
Auto-run DVD/DVD-R/VCD/SVCD/MP3/CDDA
Dolby DigitalÔ
Dolby 5.1Ô and DTSÔ onboard Decoder
Support JPEG/MPEG/MOV. Files simultaneously for picture show
X2 Karaoke microphone input
Scart, S-Video, Composite Video and Optical Output
Amazing value (£69.99)
Bad points
No ON/OFF or Standby Switch on remote
Single Scart Socket
Only up to x8 forward or rewind on DVD format*
Only up to x4 forward or rewind on VCD format*
Cannot simultaneously use Scart and S-Video outputs*
Compared to Acoustic Solutions DVD 421
Bought this silver slim line DVD unit yesterday from Staples (Staples Corner, UK no less!). At first I thought there was a miss print when it said Dolby 5.1 and DTS decoder for £69.99!!! Complete with remote and batteries, but no connections.
Turning the unit around it confirmed that there was a Dolby, L & R front, surround, centre and subwoofer channels on show. This is on top of the SCART socket, S-Video, Composite Video, Coaxial Digital and Optical Output.
Initially setting up the unit with a Gold Scart Socket and switching the unit on the DVD tray ejected quietly and smoothly compared to the Acoustic Solutions DVD 421. It had been noted by others that MIRR110 did not take kindly to DVD-R’s. During my own tests the unit took every format of disk that I placed in it, DVD, DVD-R, SVCD, VCD 1.1/2.0, CD-R, CDDA all ran automatically on insertion (I haven’t got any MP3 files so I can’t comment on that format).
Using “The Matrix” as a test disk the picture was reasonable on a 28” screen. Picture was pixel free at x1.5 (Pan & Scan equivalent) and x2. Pixelation was only achieved at x3 zoom, but then why would you want to watch a movie at x3 zoom? Good clear picture was improved on delving into the menu system to set the picture to “Hi-Resolution” which sharpens a rather flat picture. Set up menu can be access at anytime during disk play, when accessed it will pause play and resume on exiting set up.
X8 Forward and rewind on DVD disks, which seemed to me rather slow compared to the maximum x32 forward and rewind on the DVD421 and worse still the meagre x4 speed on VCD/ SVCD formats.
Changing the region is easy. Please follow the instructions below:
Open tray
Press “72818”
The movie “When We Were Solders” a region 1 disk with RCE played with full menu function and no problems reading the disk. I wasn’t able to ascertain as to whether macro vision is enabled or disable on this model, but I have had the unit patched through a scart splitter with no problems (but obvious reduction is picture quality noted).
Labtec LCS-2414 (15w RMS) initially relayed sound via standard left and right stereo output and the sound was adequate and was improved by activating the VSS (Virtual Surround Sound) in the audio set-up. Generally the sound was crisp with good tone and bass reflex.
I managed to get hold of a set of Medion 5.1 active sound system (450 PMPO £39.99 reduced to £27 also from Staples). These speaker came with connections for PC sound cards and not standard phono connections. WARNING!!! To activate the 5.1 surround sound you MUST set the DOWNLOADMIX to “OFF”. I spent the hours trying to figure out how to get more than just the 2 front speaker to work and although the instructions do tell you, they do not show it clearly enough!
This is the first time I have ever set up a home cinema sound system so I was very impressed with the sound output with crisp, clear acoustics. Using “The Matrix” you get a true feel for surround sound and with “Minority Report” DTS could be activated.
For all those that fancy themselves as a bit of a Pop star you can obtain Karaoke function as well plugging in a microphone into one of the 2 6.5mm microphone jacks. Although I cannot comment on this function since I have not tested it (and all concerned are very grateful of that!).
The last aspect of this DVD player that is worth mentioning is the ability to play JPEG slide shows. Using a disk that I created with x2 sub-folders you can access these menus via the OSD. You can view files individually or as a slideshow. Another feature that impressed me was that it is capable of reading MOV. Files I have not found a DVD player on the market that has this function. It can play the MOV. Files mixed with JPEG with no problem.
Conclusion
It’s been noted that these DVD players have been on sale since Dec. 02’ (I have been to Staples during that time and have not seen them). A branch at High Wycombe had them in stock since the beginning of last week and they couldn’t tell how long they would have them in stock.
All the above for £69.95 which is an amazing price (if anyone can find a better deal let us know). Since Staples is not a audio/video stockist the number of DVD players are not guaranteed to stay at the same stock levels. I would STRONGLY suggest that if you want to up grade from a basic DVD player or even have a second player then get this one, for the price and Dolby 5.1 output you couldn’t beat this package.

| Looks the part. Played everything i have tried on it with great quality including cd-r SVCD and vcd. Also tried both dvd-r and dvd-rw(bulkpaq gen 3 (R2) and datasafe). This is my girlfriends player i am testing and have just ordered myself one. Plays cheap bulkpaq purple top dvd-r's smoothly. £58 in the uk from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk great value. Has built in 5.1 decoder with 6 audio outs to connect to surround sound system. Also has optical out. As I say, the quality of the picture and the sound were great. Plays jpeg's on a data cd-r and mp3's. This is also a karioke machice and has two microphone sockets on the front both with volume controls. The player also adds echo effects to the mics if needed. I highly recommend this player to anyone. |

This is one excellent DVD player. It has yet to refuse to play anything i've put in it other than DivX, XviD and WMV.
Solid build, super slim. Plays absolutely EVERYTHING. Even plays HDCD, DVCD and MiniDVD and loads more other formats.
This is a superb machine. Get one while you can!! |
