CVD $80 N/A 6 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX MPEGISO Comments: A friend got one of this from a German supplier for e80 including shipping to Ireland which is a teriffic price. He asked me to test DivX and other non-DVD standard playback. Here's what I've found. The Loomax X50 and A230 are the same unit with some cosmetic differences. They both use the same firmware update files. I have updated to the latest firmware ROM3.0. Unit has a SCART socket but does not come with a SCART cable. Good news is the unit is cheap and plays back about 95% of the discs I've thrown at it without problems. It is also fairly quiet when working and offers progressive & interlaced output. All good points for such a low cost unit. Bad news. Playing back the last file from a DVD-R can be problematic, occassionally it will start to play the last file on the dics and then stop part way through. This is not afaict a disc make/media issue e.g. some Imation CD-R disks will play fine others will not even be recognised. In cases where I've had problems reading a specific disc and/or file transferring files to a DVD+RW and playing that got around the problem. DivX files with two audio tracks baffle the unit almost without exception - if your DivX files are multilingual or your a fan of commentaries then this is not the player for you. Unit reacts slowly and the remote is less than a pleasure to use but it is useable. Intermittent problems such as not playing the final file on a dics would, imho make the unit unsuitable for general use. If you know your way around a PC and have your own DVD burner than this unit is great value for playing single audio track DivX files on your TV or transferring them to VHS.

The first problem I discovered it was that the subtitle is to small, was't it ? Can I fix it with some code insert in *.srt or *.sub ? The loomax web site is no working properly and I can't ask them. I tried a lot of CD-R like: NO NAME, Imation, Traxdata, Delfi, DataTrack, Memorex...RAXON full with DivX/XviD movies. The problem was with RAXON CD-R. In general a CD is read by unit in 15 sec, but a CD RAXON is read in 5 min. The unit can't read from it correctly untill I insert the CD two, three times. There is someone else with the same problem ( no nesesary RAXON )? I write CD-R with Nero Burning Rom 6 version 6.3.0.0. The option: Multisession->"No Multisession" ISO->"Max. Of 31 chars (ISO Level 2)" "Mode 2/XA" "ASCII" bif"Joliet" bif"Allow path depth of more than 8 directories" bif"Allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names" (if I bif"Allow more than 255 characters in path" or I bif"Do not add the';1'ISO file version extension" the player can read subtitles. There is someone else with the same problem) Burn->"Finalize CD" "Disc-at-once" There is a problem with my setings or my unit ?

Additionally the player doesn't recognise DivX/XVid files with ogg or ac3 audio track. If i press search backward and then play, the player jumps to the beginning of the chapter.

N/A 7 of 10 DivX Comments: Hello, recently I bought the Loomax X-50 with the latest firmware. The machine is working fine! But I've got troubles with the subtitles. If the background is to light, the subtitles are not readable. Also the subtitle space is too short (I often see 3 lines instead of 2). Is there somebody who got the same problems with the subtitles? Does any body know the solution? Thanks in advance. Maarten

Als subtitles (srt & sub). You must select the subtitles and push the "angle"-button. And then you select the movie.

N/A 2 of 10 Comments: I bought the player yesterday, however, there is a big problem: if an DivX file fills a whole CD, the player would not recognize the disc - it says "NO DISC" after unsuccessfull trying loading. I tested the whole thing by making DivX 5.05 files of some 50 MB and with full 695 MB on one CD, using the same original and the same encoding settings (no GMC, no bidirectional encoding, no quarter pixels): the smaller file was playable, the larger one was not recognized. Basically, the same is true for VCD and for SVCDs. Once they fill a complete CD, the player does not recognize the disc. Any ideas what to do? Unfortunately, the Loomax support so far has not replied to my inquiry/complaint.

So I rated the Player with an 8/10. 77 Euros at Media Markt Germany is a good price for the Loomax.

CVD? $80 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 DivX MPEGISO Comments: Despite the fact it plays DivX in all various versions like 3.11,4.x, 5.x and XviD i gave this player a rating of 9/10. But remember : you have to do a flash update with the file from www.loomax.com if you want to have DivX movies in fullscreen. otherwise there are black stripes left and right of the screen. MP3 playback works good, either on CD-R and DVD-R, also is able to play MP3 embedded in subfolders. Though long filenames are not supported and playback of MP3 is only via menu on the TV screen. Bought it for 77 euro at Media Markt in Germany, all in all im very satisfied with the player. Would buy it again..

You don't have to author a mpg movie to SVCD,VCD just burn it as an CD or DVD ISO and you can play it from the SmartNav menu (explorer like window) Also plays: Divx 3.11, Divx 4.x, Divx 5.x and XviD This is a player with the same interface/setup options as Yamada DVX-6000/6001 and probably other players. Only the background image is the different, from each brand. Important: Download the Firmware Update @ www.loomax.com Without this update i get no fullscreen divx movies, only with svcd,dvd,vcd. After you update you can also use subtitles (*.sub) according to the readme, but not tested yet. Like a lot of other DIVX player it seems to have problems with Divx 3.11. Future updates may fix this problem, and support of wma, asf en RM may be included. This because you can see those files and tries to play them. But then it says "Codec Not Supported". You can bought this player by Media Markt.

Dolby Digital downmixed to stereo. No accented character support! Tested firmware is the first one came out on the loomax website. (not the one it was supplied with)
