CVD? $200 over 1 year 2 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX XviD Comments: Never again. After 13 months I think it's almost dead. Couldn't find a brand of +R or -R that it would play consistently, so stuck to +RW. Now it won't read what it wrote, has to be turned off and back on just to eject. It interacts with my STB's remote, changing Source on most clicks, unless I press Stop on the 5005 remote first. Insane. The Close button doesn't, it has to be done manually; the S-Video connection went blind months ago. When it worked properly, it took a minute or more to load a +RW, same to erase a recording, same to mark a recording as overwritable. Most of this is likely attributable to the crap burner they put in this thing, but not all. I'll probably pick up a replacement drive, see if that fixes anything, but I'll try anything but a Lite-On before I buy another of their products, and I certainly won't consider Lite-On for any future purchases.

CVD? $? 14 days No rating Comments: 5005X, bad image on other players….. I have a new 5005X and have recorded programs through the tuner. The DVD-R’s look great when played on the 5005X. However, when played on my other DVD players the image is poor, faded and grainy. When played on my PC the image is great like on the 5005X.

CVD? $? 60 days 6 of 10 Comments: Had two of these that did the same thing: Audio during TV watching had a low buzz, and it would vary in severity. Also, ghosted vertical lines would scroll across the screen from right to left, about two on screen at all times. They seem to decrease in visibility the longer the unit is turned on. These lines are not apparent during DVD playback. I tried the firmware upgrade, but I can't tell if the disk actually gets read or not--I don't get prompted like it says I should in the download instructions page. Remote control buttons are not very intuitive. Haven't tried the 6-hour record setting, but 4-hour recordings seem decent, so I am assuming the 2-hour setting is even better. Some difficulty playing recorded disks from this recorded on my computer DVD player. Have had a skipping/freezing problem here and there with various DVD-R disks.

Also, the instructions say you can only have 8 characters for a title, but I have been able to input up to 12 so far.

CVD? $125 7 days 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 DivX DVD-RAM Comments: An earlier comment was made about the firware not being able to be upgraded, it is able to be upgraded. You can get it at the Lite On American site and it fixes a lot of bugs. The tuner is really crappy if you go in with coax or composite, try the S Video connection. The quality is great on playback.

As i use this in india where we cable signal is PAL, but was able to work around by using A/V output from TV to Liteon's A/V inputs and recording from there.. just recorded using CD-RW in VCD fromat and more then happy with the quality of recording. will update soon other findings... btw liteon has released a firmware for 5005X at http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_dvd.htm or download it directly from http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/Download/CE_firmware/5005X/LNFC1101.ES0

CVD? $? 30 days 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: recording quality is good and everthing. its userfreindly. but i found the tv tuner to pretty crappy, you can see the picture and everything but the quality through the tuner S@@KS. so use an external tv tuner, like a vcr or something like that. the quality of the recording is excellent, except for the 6 hour recording mode. This machine doesnt support LP recording either.Besides that i pretty much like evreything about this player. From what i see, it looks like the old 5005 with a new body to it. If anyone finds hacks for this machine, please post. Thanks
