Hot as hell. Scored one for 40 quid cause an actor threw an artistic tantrum at it not including a scart lead. Last one in shop, he haggled, but i bought. Good ol shep. That was his name.
No problems really. Sounds like it's gonna take off with certain DVDs like the 2nd series of teachers. Loads of whirring and stuff. have to turn TV up to drown it out sometimes. Damn thing.
Very happy otherwise. |

| Bought this player from Richer Sounds about 6 months ago for the (now rather high) price of £149. Plays almost anything I have thrown at it, except for some rogue discs which appear to be imbalance problems causing resonance. Plays DVD-R and DVD+R perfectly. Sound is superb, picture is excellent, with additional tweaks available via handset menus for brightness, contrast, colour and sharpness. Dolby Digital 5.1 and 6.1EX supported as is DTS but not THX. Plays jpeg discs no problem, and VCD works well too, as does good old CD. Have not yet tried DVD-rW or DVD+RW bur CDR and CD-RW work fine too. Would have given 10/10 but for the lack of remote standby. Minor niggle, I know, but hey. |

| did't know it played WMA files till i read this site. bought yesterday to replace. toshiba 110se which was starting to play up. i had started to use DVD audio but only with the Dolby digital or dts soundtrack as the tosh cant play DVDa. WOW it didnt think it poss but Just the stereo in 192KHZ 24 bit is amazing. i dont have a 6 ch input on my Nak av 10 (anyone know how to jimmy the 6 ch out to reverse it please) so cant comment on surround. the picture quality on a projector in prog scan is stunning flicker free rock steady and crystal clear.. the unit is very solid all metal rather than plastic. silent operation and having a power of button is sonically far better than a another relay in the unit. looses out to a 10 due to the remote problems as stated,,, oh yeah and at 69 notes what a bargain |

My Father bought one of these from Richer Sounds last week... I was extremely impressed on the performance of the machine which lead me to purchase one myself today. Have tested VCD/SVCD/XSVCD/CVD/DVD-R in it and plays whatever i care to throw at it... Picture and Sound Quality excellent. As is the internal Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1 decoder performs sound wise.
The JPEG playback feature is excellent and high quality, as is the MP3 playback facility which unlike my old DVD player, gives you filenames and directories to scroll through, you can create playlists, but haven`t figured that bit out yet.
Haven`t got and DVD-Audio to try on it yet, will do that later. The only reason it doesn`t get 10 is that it doesn`t play Divx.. Oh well, you can`t have everything, but this comes close. |

This machine seems too good to be true! Suberb picture (tested RGB on JVC WS TV) and loaded with features.
Has handled everything I have been able to throw at it - VCD with menu /SVCD (Nero); PhotoVCD thing (Ulead DVD Picture Show); CDR (Traxdata); CDRW (Traxdata) and some unbranded disks as well. |

| Had about 5 DVD players before I settled on this one. Wanted one that played VCD/SVCD/DVDR/MP3 and JPEG. This one does the lot. Picture is excellent too. Only things I did not like was the fact that you have no stand-by, it has to be phisically turned off. And the remote has to be pointed straight at it this is sometimes awkward when the drawer is open. Minor niggles though, if you want a player that plays everything then you can,t go wrong with this one. I had a Sony 735D before this so it had a lot to live up to. Picture is not so artifactle as my Sony was. |

Just purchased from Richer Sounds in U.K.
It was to replace my ageing DVD player purchashed from Woolworths about 2 years ago. I wanted a machine that would play DVD-R or SVCD's that I had made from my home videos.
Seems to play my recorded optical disks OK (so far).
Makes worrying "clanking" sounds when loading what turns out to be a "bad" disc.
Scart socket appears to be intermittent, but bending a few pins on my (perfectly OK before) scart cable seems to have sorted that one out.

Plays everything i throw at it !!!! Unbranded dvd+r/rw produced with DVDxCopy, DVD2one and burnt with Nero all work 100%
Great machine with Digital decoder built in.
Only 2 problems are no Power standby and the remote needs to be pointed directly at the unit to work properly. If the tray is open, sometime the remote cant get through. |

Noone else seems to have mentioned yet that this player plays WMA files (in addition to mp3)beautifully. The file/folder navigation for mp3/wma playback is excellent......as is the playback sound quality.
No probs with any SVCDs or VCDs.
One niggle though........I have had two of these players so far, and although both functioned perfectly, both also suffered from significant disk imbalance resonance with certain discs.....and this was so bad that I have given up on this player. It's just a shame that it seems to be sensitive to natural variations/imbalance in the disc platter - it is otherwise an absolutely stunning piece of kit! |

I'm a newbie and have not owned any other DVD player but reports on this website indicated this would be a good machine and I wholeheartedly agree. Picture quality is excellent, sound too (even when played through a mono TV).
The multiregion hack is easy but the macrovision hack reported on this website did not work for me. I have not tried DVD-R/RW. Really cheap unbranded CD-R works well as does Memorex CD-R. I have found that I have to author them with Nero. When I tried Roxio (which I am used to) I failed.
The machine will play a CD-R full of JPEG images but it is fussy about file size (max 1mb) and the JPEG file header must not have any embedded originator/copyright text. My images viewed this way were sometimes a little jittery but that could have been due to the rest of my equipment/cables. A better technique for jitter free, stable, still images is to make a VCD with stills using the brilliant VCDEasy tool.
Build quality is excellent and lots of sockets for good connectivity at the back. All comments above refer to a PAL environment.

I've tried just about everything with VCD/SVCD/SVCD/XVCD/XSVCD on all kinds of media. I've also tried all formats authored by photodex ProShow - still pictures are excellent (with SVCD being the best quality so far). I'll try CVD later.
Sound excellent and picture flawless on my JVC 4:3
Just reduced to £149 at Richer sounds. Flawless playback of VCD's means that this unit is a far better choice than the Tosh 220 that I was going to get.
Only gripe is no standby (9/10) and a relatively noisy tray action but as I listen to the films, not the tray, so no issues there!!!!!

Bulkpaq DVD-R authored with DVDXCOPY, ULEAD DVD Workshop and Nero all work. 1x and 2x. DVD-RW (Verbatim) work. VCD and SVCD(both unbranded CDR) all good. So far everything I Have put in it plays. Picture Quality is excellent so is sound. Would recommend it highly.
Initially had a Acoustic solutions 551 for a year, but this struggled with some DVD-R, So decided to get a Pioneer DVD454. Played even less DVD-R, But did mangage DVD-RW, nice looking unit but would only rate it at 5/10. Was going to get a Toshiba 220E, but salesman persuaded me get the the LIMIT 9900SE and what a good bloke he was. Only grouch is that there is no standby(power off) from the remote. Otherwise would give it 10! |

I bought this player just after Xmas. Superb picture and sound quality, but I noticed, contrary to the above remarks, it DOES pause slightly at layer changes (although no more so than most players - nothing to worry about).
Player can be hacked (using the remote) for Macrovision, MultiRegion, and VCD playback.
All in all, I highly recommend it. |

Great machine - comes with progresssive scanning for both PAL & NTSC.
No time lag or pauses unlike my SONY player.
Great value indeed. Why didn't I buy this player sooner! |
