CVD? $200 over 1 year 7 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: Missing SVCD support and has trouble with some DVD-R disks. DVD+R seem to work fine (although I've only just switched to these to overcome the -R problems).

This player will accept all types of DVD disc but appears to have problems reading DVD+R if the booktype is not set to DVD-ROM. I strongly advise readers to set the booktype accordingly - use DVDInfo Pro if your recorder does not have a bitsetting utility. Otherwise, it's not a bad player. Dated by todays standard but not bad at all. Richer Sounds are selling them for pennies on ebay, so you could pick yourself up a bargain if you're after a player for the kids.

CVD? $? over 1 year 5 of 10 Comments: Slow to load discs of all kinds, though is faster recognising DVD+R/RW than DVD-R/RW. This player will not recognise DVD-R/RW written using the Nu DDW-081 firmware flashed to 082. It says: CHECK DISK, CHECK REGION SETTING, even though the disk is region free and even with Bit-Setting set to DVD-ROM (using Nu's own bit-setting utility or the one in DVDInfoPro). Disks written using NEC 1300A work perfectly.

N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename DivX Comments: DVD-R works fine (I tried SW-technology 4X they worked perfect) plays Mp3 have a built-in AC-3 (DD) decoder, plays VCD (not SVCD or XVCD), if hacked. Plays all regions, if hacked. Plays a great variaty of CD-r's (like kodak gold, black, blue, silver). I made a copy using DVDxCopy Express, picture and sound was great, almost like a retail, no menus though.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Used Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD-R and DVD-RW with no problems (written using NEC ND1300A 4x -/+R/RW). An earlier post says that MP long file names can be displayed - how? All my titles are truncated to names such as "Reel_1" and "Back_1". Can be a little slow on detecting the type of disc, but it gets there in the end. Sometimes skips the first half second of MP3 tracks when manually skipping back and forth.

N/A 7 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: Plays DVD-R discs written with a Pioneer DVR-A03. Also plays MP3 but don't know whether it does VBR so can't post detail yet. VCD replay is only possible with a remote hack. I've been using it to play home-made VCDs with jpg files (digital holiday photos) and MPEG1 video files. Macrovision seems to be applied to all disks, which is a nuisance.
