Altough the DVD-ROM player inside the KiSS broke up upon me last year, since I replaced it with the same type I can say that the player still impresses me.

I even can play DVD+R DL media with it!!

Ok, sometimes the player stutters with the remote and when playing MP3 files, but overall the player does the fine.

Got the player over a year ago, experience has been OK.

here are some of the problems encountered:

- very often, when playing content over the network, it just stops, seems to lose its IP address

- FF/RW sometimes crashes the player, needs a reboot to clear

- not good with dirty/scrathed DVD (played well in other systems)

- looks like the power converter just died ... it starts to shriek loudly and the display goes berzerk ... since it's out of warranty, only option is to send for repair ... trying to figure out how much it's gonna be ... might just get a Philips instead ...

Still in love! :)

I've collected aproximately 350 DivX movies since last inlay, most of them are working perfectly, except a few encoded in a unknown/unsupported codec.
Some blocknoise occurs now and then on several movies, but it's mostly not critical. DivX is still cheap and good fun. :)
By the way, switch to analog outputs if DivX audio is missing in the digital outputs, or the opposite way if needed. ;)

After a firmware-update I encountered a problem with DVDs that stuttered several times during playback.
For some reason this vanished when I reinstalled the firmware-update.
I recommende that you update the firmware when a new one is available. The menys and functions are still getting improved for each new version.

Most of both cheap and expensive DVD-R's I have tried in this player are working perfectly, except one type; White-label 1x, which I will rather refer to as "Grey-hair-label", cause of their bad quality and poor speed.
:D
Everything else plays perfectly, like DVDs from brands like Verbatim, Packard Bell, Sony, ACT Storage, Samsung, Thats Write, Bulkpaq, and more.

My DP-500 arrived last week. I bought it to see about the streaming, as I want to convert my collection to the hard drive and only use the DVD media for archiving. Also, I needed a new DVD player, and I want to see how it will play Divx files archived on DVD.

This player performs very well for all the purposes I bought it. I have a hard wired network and streaming is no problem. Divx streaming is especially impressive. All my Divx are encoded using Dr. Divx with version 4 and 5, and they stream over the network with very near DVD quality.

My archives are Divx avi files placed on a DVD+R (I can usually get 5 or 6 movies per DVD) and this thing plays them no sweat. Lets you pick from a menu it creates from the file names you gave when storing.

This player produces an excellent picture when playing regular DVDs.

The only thing that could really stand some improvement is the documentation. Believe me when I tell you that these people do not elaborate on ANYTHING, if they even explain it in the first place.

The forums thankfully make up for this, and now it's quite logical, after a few days use.

Please Note: You will want to use the EZlink software to manage the PC to DP-500 link. Much better.

This is a great player especially the ability to stream xvid, divx, wma and view jpg from my via the ethernet connection. Now I can have a library of movies and pictures on-line without the need for a CD or DVD rom. I can stream a movie with ease and being hardwired I am getting maximum through put with my netgear router. The player also has an internet mp3 radio streaming capability that I tested with no problem.

The beauty of it all is that the firmware is open source and you can add features from third parties even change the background graphics.

There are a few weaknesses... one is with the sofware PC-Link that loads on the PC for streaming and linking is rather featureless.... I upgraded to Ezlink that is made by a third party. Another annoyance is that there seems to be a delay when you use the remote control features--- it takes sometimes up to 2-3 seconds for the unit to respond to a button press on certain commands.

Overall I love this player especially having it networked to my PC now provides me with media at my fingertips instead of loading disks. The unit build is excellent and made to last.

Great Job Kiss-technologies

An excelent machine ! ! ! !

Plays everything I've put into it but one file streamed from the computer.
Was encoded Pal when I first got it, but I fixed this problem by booting with the NTSC Firmware update from KISS's website.

Lots of web radio stations to stream.

Highly recomended.

This unit will with firmware version 2.7.4 loaded play most divx movies, but has serious trouble playing mpeg1 where it will lock up completely and a power-cycle will be required to bring it back to normal operation.

It is also possible to lock up the player hitting the "wrong" keys on the remote.

Nice piece of work if you use the latest firmware (2.7.4), but still unstable... and needs to be power cycled to recover.

Using the slide show (at least from PC-LINK) results in pictures first being shown unstreached, then stretched. Obviously, the transition between the small and larger picture is annoying to watch.

The player does not have a horisontal picture adjustment, but has a good zoom. The design is old looking, and the remote has very small buttons with small prints.

Fast forward is now available for DivX (3.11 tested), but does not allow realtime FF like the Phillips 737. Resync is sometimes very slow..

The player cannot connect to more than one PC-LINK at a time...

Annoying text on the front panel cannot be disabled.

All over a tempting product, but I guess a modified XBox may do the a third of the price?

Plays everything including divx, xvid etc etc. The only downside is that dix 3.11 plays fine but sound is only via the scart (video) output and does not work via the raw digital outputs. All other standards (divx 4 and above, xvid etc) play fine via the raw output.

There are cheaper players around that play mpeg4 but this is the only one I am aware of that is capable of playing streaming media from a PC via an ethernet link. Off to buy a wireless 802.11G kit now (woo) to complete my total home entertainment system.

Well known to support Divx 3.11 also check www.divx.com. 1st player that is Divx certified.

The greatest feature is the streaming over LAN support. You can stream:
* jpg images over the network from one server to many KiSS machines. Very easy to stream directly from your digital camera to the KiSS player if the camera supports Universal storage over USB.
* avi (MPG on the way) and there is no delay if you select a shared movie until it plays, i.e. no loading time. If the movie has acompaning subtitles as a separate file they are automatically streamed over the network.
* MP3 files, great sound if connected to a amplifier (I have a LINN CD player/Amp). 80 GB of MP3 as a jukebox!!!

I also just love the webradio feature. Don't compare this with how it works on the PC, this is much better implementation. On PC you have to search and struggle to find stations and when you have found a few it takes a long time before they start to play. On the KiSS you have a number of preselected stations to choose from (currently ~20 soon updated to 4000) and when a station is selected the music starts instantly, no delay!!!

I can testify to have tested on >20 Divx 3.11, >10 Divx5.05 and >40 XVID movies without one signle failure (except one XVID with QPel encoding (not supported).

Works great with movies encoded with Dr. Divx.

I simply love this player, my entire friend environment is extremely impressed with this player, I can gladly recommend it to anyone.

Ican say that I really love this player , It plays anything I put in it (after firmware upgrade) and the ethernet LAN port works great.

If you have the 1712 drive there is no problem to update it with an unofficial firmware so you can change the region with a remote hack.

I got this player last friday so I haven't been able to test it much but almost everything I have tested works fine. I can only find two things that I can say I think is bad and therefore I wont give it a 10. Theese things are:
it doesn't have a built in dolby decoder(well, use a 5.1 reciever instead, it's better anyways) and it can only play avi through the pc-link program (LAN port). The last thing was the only thing I got dissapointed about since I was really looking forward to be able to watch theese half good ts of new movies without burning them, but I still have to burn them it looks like=(

Overall great player, if you have the money and the interest buy the player.

BTW the player is bought in sweden were we have skyhigh taxes so it's probably cheaper in other countries.
