| Worked fine for 13 months, then failed completely. Being 1 month out of guarantee, Kiiro didn't want to know. I would not recommend this player. |

Good little player, but i have found all kiiro products to be a little temperamental. I have an 838 and an X5. I have had problems with both...
The Kiiro customer service is first class..they have sent me 3 replacement X5s due to various faults and i have had a replacement 838 from my retailer also due to problems.
On the compatability side the 838 will play pretty much any media you like. I have burned SVCDs on some horrible, nasty, cheap CD-Rs and they play ace. I have had a few teething probs with DVD-R media. I burn with a pioneer dv105 and at 4x speed i have had a few discs not play on the Kiiro and they did play on my pioneer DV-464.
But when i burn at 2x speed all discs play nicely......weird. Also the DVD-R media i use is cheap (White label DVD-R 4x speed 65p each)

After reading the reviews on this great site I had to rush out and buy one, Seems to be a great player for the low price however it will not read DVD+R or DVD+RW.
I emailed Kiiro to see if it was supposed to play them and maybe my burning s/ware or media was the problem but Kiiro stated "The player will not playback DVD+R or DVD+RW discs"
What a shame!!! |

What a cracking player, it has played VCD SVCD XVCD and XSVCD on any media I have thrown at it, which includes Datasafe silver and blue, vivastar, vertabim, packard bell and FWS. I have a DVD R which also plays flawlessly.
Its multiregion out of the box and can play NTSC or PAL no problem whatsoever, currently £99 at special reserve. I used to have a Smamsung 709 and recently took back a Scneider 857. This Kirro kicks butt.
One slight flaw as when you open the disc tray you do get a ping noise and immediately proceed to the microwave only to find that you didn't put anything in it, but its a small price to pay for such a great machine, also its tiny in comparison to regular dvd players. |

Superb compact DVD player brought from AMAZON for £99 sterling that plays everthing I have thrown into it so far..even MPEGs burnt onto cheap 20pence cdrs play via SmartNav menu system.
Connected to 30" w/s TV and Videologix ZXR500 5.1 amp/speakers can only say sound is also superb from the built in DTS/5.1 decoder for movies & MP3 & Audio CD playback! Picture quality is also good in fact as good as most players costing over twice the price!
Its MULTIREGION/NO-MACROVISION straight out of the box another bonus..no messing with remotes or hacks!
Plays VCD,SVCD,CVD,XVCD,XSVCD even @ NTSC 23fps which is rare and all on various branded & dirt cheap unbranded CDRs/CDRWs ALL work perfectly.
I use DVD2SVCD with Cinemecraft 2.5 encoder to create MPGs & burn with either NERO 5572 for non-compliant discs (XVCD,XSVCD,CVD pretty high bitrates too..in fact higher than you will ever need)or DVD2SVCD bundle for compliant (VCD,SVCD)
To sum up...if you want to play virtually ANY type of movie disc this is for you...if you want to spend loads & just watch DVD's & have a nice badge (aka SONY) then make your choice, but I'm sticking with the KIIRO..

This is one sweet machine, I have a few minor things I'd change about it but not much.
It's very clever and can play most standard formats, it even plays mp2 audio alone without the video. I havn't tried multiplexing mp3 into an mpg or vcd yet but I've a feeling it might work. No problems with CD-R or CD-RW. IT has a SCREENSAVER ;)
Very comprehensive settings menu.
Connectors:
SCART, Composite, RCA digital coaxial, Digital optical, Full compliment of audio connectors for surround (no external decoder necessary)
Gripes:
IT PINGS when its turned on and when one ejects the tray. Sounds like a microwave just finished cooking. (That would be cool if it could burn disks ;) finished PING)
Can't be turned off.
The background image is BRIGHT BLUE and can be annoying when just playing a CD or mp3. The screensaver wont kick in when these are playing so we have to put up with it unless you turn the tv off. (and have the sound wired up to the hifi) |

Superb machine: bought from Afterhours.co.uk, great service.
Got it specifically for DVD-R playback, works a charm following standard IfoEdit routines (with Prassi/RecordNow).
Had some troubles with Nero with DVD-MP3s.
Anyone manages to burn MP3s onto a DVD and get playback?
Had nice Navi feature - pop in a Data CD, no particular format, and it will let you navigate to mp3 tracks or playback mpegs. useful for misburned SVCD/VCD. Anyone got this to work with DVD-R?
Good MP3 navigation, macro disabled/multiregion.
Cute little thing, about FHM magazine size.
Probs: none so far. No long filenames, just about 12 chars.
Issues: anyone had luck (on any machine!) burning a DVD-R full of MP3s?

| Cannot fault this player - plays everything I've thrown at it! And its under £150. I can heartily recommend it. Video and sound quality appear to be great too, why buy Sony, Panasonic etc when you can have a multiregion RCE, macrovision disabled player that supports most formats for this price and no I do not work for KIIRO... |

Excellent little player for the money, Plays just about every kind of disc you throw at it, I’ve even had it playing a CDr with just a single Mpeg file on it and one with the Mpeg file hidden away in a directory. You get a sort of directory list up and you can browse around the CDr or what ever disc you have in it to find your Mpeg file to play. The player cost me £150 and for the money and what it does you can’t bet it.
Outputs: 1 x Scart,1 x S-Video, 1 x Coaxial, 1x Digital Fibre

| The website and manual claims it'll play virtually everything. Good little player, except that the two I had were faulty! One packed up, replaced with another that failed to read 50% of audio CDs. If it worked, it'd be a good-value all-rounder... |
