| I bought this barely used from a guy for $40 and it has been excellent. It has played everything I've put in it so far except for DVD-RW. Otherwise, DVD+R, -R, and +RW have played flawlessly. I've tried VCD as well with no trouble. PAL conversion is flawless. Has DTS capability if you have a supporting receiver, component output, coax, optical, and standard RCA audio outputs. If it only supported standard MPEG1/2 ISO and DivX/XviD it would be perfect. This and the fact that it can't be made region free without a blackbox are the only negatives I have with it. |

Perfect player, also have a Cyberhome CHDVD-402 and Philips DVD610 (less compatible), but this one plays almost everything you feed it.
No probs with burned media.

Well, this is my 5th DVD player and my favorite so far. 1st was an Apex AD-600 or AD-600A. Player was so-so and the power supply shorted out and almost caught fire. Second was an older JVC (can't remember model number). Nice player, but didn't read any DVD-R, DVD+R, or SVCD. Next came a Panasonic DVD-CV52 5-disc. Another nice player, but didn't do SVCD. Then came the RJTech RJ4000. Not bad for DVD-R and DVD+R, but sucked royally for SVCD and DiVX. I then decided that I didn't need DiVX playback and bought the JVC N30BK.
Can't say much except that this is a great player for the money. Perfectly plays DVD-R, DVD+R, SVCD, does flawless PAL/NTSC conversion. Even has decent long filename support for MP3 playback. Another nice thing about the player is it is VERY QUICK to pick up a new disc and ready it for playing. Much faster than any of my previous players.
I don't foresee a 6th DVD player in my near future. |

Is not true , like I saw in this site, that this DVD player can read XSVCD up to 4200 Kbit/sec.
In my experience is a good device but it can read XSVCD up to 3000 Kbit/sec.
If anybody have a different experienace, please give me information into this site.
Thank you

[German]
Hi.
[Englisch/US]
Hi.
For all who better understand english :-)
The player is great piece of technology. Plays everything you throw into it. Very good and stable chassis. Looks very nice.
IMPORTANT TIP:
Everyone, who has probs with playing his SVCD's (just like myself had, e.g. with block-artefacts inside the picture, stutting audio etc.) should burn his SVCD's (again) with a maximum of 8x speed! Also a good buring software is important here: i use ideally: GOLDENHAWK CDRWIN 3.9E (or current Version).
About multiregion: on my player the notice of RC2 is visible at the box. Although, i already played RC1 successfully without any probs. Therefore I think its multiregion capable...
I hope i could help some u guys and girls out there, because for myself, i had to kill about 20 cdr-s 'til i found the reason, how to create 100% perfect SVCD's that are anywhere compatible :)
Greetz/Grüße

doesn't play dvd-r properly after about an hour, goes choppy.
playback ntsc in a very jerky motion, cause cannot output in pal 60, only pal 50 so a few frames are cut away every second.
yes it is multiregion, and dvd-r compatible (at first)
dos'nt look too bad though. |

I had problems with other DVD players including Sony playing the DVD-R format. I found that with the Sony and other brands it sometimes depends upon the brand of the DVD media. With the JVC, it does not matter!!! It plays all the DVD-R!!!
Good little unit. I also like the fast forward on the remote that you can step up the speed from 1.5, to 5, to 20, to 60 times normal speed.

The only real drawback I've found is that it doesn't seem to like the audio format on DVD-SVCD. When played back through the optical or coaxial digital connections the sound drops out every minute or so. When played through the RCA jacks, it works just fine.
The remote sux, but I don't use it very often anyway.
This player could use some aesthetic improvements in the menu's and displays (esp the MP3 menu system), but it is well worth the money - JVC seems to be one of the few left that does an excellent job with the PAL to NTSC conversion.
Oh - and it has taken every piece of media I've thrown at it - I use mostly cheap media (Fujifilm DVD+RW, Imation DVD+/-RW, and GQ DVD-RW, and CDs are just a mix of what's on sale at the time) |
