| Tried Ritek DVD-R DL, which burned OK on a Pioneer DVR111D after PatchBurn, but the result wouldn't play on the JVC XV-FA900BK. Switched to Verbatim DVD+R DL (8x, MKM.....003) and it burned and played fine. |

reads no name CDR and DVD-R media fine. Was able to get one Memorex DVD-RW disk to read but have tried 5 other Memorex DVD-RW disks with no success.
Can't seem to get mDVD working. It just says "read error". This is one feature that I really wished would work and it seems like other people have gotten it to work. Not sure what is wrong. I would have rated it a 8 if mDVD worked.
Few other notes:
1. jpg viewing works but don't try very hi rez pictures as it takes forever to load (scale)
2. no multi disk random play for CD. important feature.
Otherwise image is very crisp and has a good film quality. |

| This player handles pretty much anything you give it. The only complaints i have deal with the disc changer itself. Sometimes it "forgets" that there is a disc in the player and will say "no disc" even though that disc was played earlier. Also, the 7 disc changer is not like a normal carousel changer. The mechanism seems complex, noisy (when changing discs) and likely to be damaged, potentially rendering the player useless. Also, as mentioned earlier, the display on the player is at a weird angle, making it difficult to read at times. Otherwise, a good player. |

I bought this changer recently and so far I am very pleased with it. It has played everything that I've tried so far including homemade VCDs, SVCDs, and MP3s on various cheap brand CD-R disks. DVD+R and DVD-R (Memorex) disks also work fine.
The picture looks very good. I just wish I had a new TV to test out the progressive scan. I like the MP3 display (folders in one column, tracks in another) and the fact that it supports file names longer than 8 characters. Support for DVD-audio and JPEG files are also nice features.
I have only a few minor complaints that kept it from scoring a 10:
1. I would like to have a random play mode for MP3s.
2. The lcd display has an angled window that tends to reflect light making it difficult to read in a well lit room especially from a distance. The onscreen display makes up for this problem though.

Plays Verbatim DVD-r w/ no problem burned on my new Pioneer DVR-105 and also Memorex DVD-rw as well. Would not play cheap Princo DVD-RW included w/ my new DVR-105 when burned with the same settings as the Memorex. Also, no problem w/ CD-R's. MP3 disks, JPEG as well.

Couldn't get any audio from a miniDVD (cDVD) but the video worked (if the bitrate was below 3.5 mbps, e.g. 2.4, otherwise the video was choppy). Haven't tried MPEG audio yet.
Sadly, this player doesn't support CDi (but that was a long shot anyway) or Kodak Photo CD (note that this is different from a Kodak Picture CD).
The MP3 player lists the folders ("groups") in the first column and the songs in each folder in the second column (32 filename characters max). It alphabetizes everything, so you have to number the .mp3 files if you want them played in the right order. (No ID3 tag or .m3u support). |

excellent picture quality. compared to my old SONY 570. more color saturation, less blocking, way more compatible with media.
plays my MAC superdrive created DVD's flawlessly.
plays any tmpegenc/nero created X/VCD's flawlessly.
7-disc changer. very convenient for 2-disc VCD's. doesn't display disc title on front display- only complaint (forget whats loaded where) |

Excellent all around DVD/SVCD player. DVD/SVCD picture quality is superb!! SVCD's created with DVD2SVCD work perfectly although bitrates higher than the normal range will not play or makes the audio choppy.
Remote is good with lots of features.
Large jpeg's can be somewhat slow to load but not unwatchable. |

The player would not play many mp3 songs I had burned onto a disk, although they play in other mp3 players.
While it can read a disk with jpeg pictures, it was painfully slow. It might be faster with a disk full of 640x480 pictures, but I just don't want the hassle of converting all the pictures before burning a disk.
I tried to hook up audio out to both the TV and stereo (without surround sound). Unless using the 5.1 speakers, you can only use one audio out. I had to feed audio from the stereo receive back into the TV to hear it both places.
In light of the poor jpeg speed and limited mp3 playback, I'll probably opt for the Sony nc655p and see how that fares. |

Actually a 7 disc changer, not 5.
So far, this player plays everything I've thown at it... DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R. I've used many media brands from name brands to generic and they've all worked so far.
This player also does DVD-Audio, a nice feature since it's also replacing my old CD Player in my stereo... now I need a few more DVD-Audio discs!
I Love this player. I give it a 9 because it lacks DVD text and CD text; and being a changer, it lacks a disc navigator. Not real big issues, yet features of my other DVD changer that I enjoy. Compatibility is the biggest issue for me. |

I've tested Memorex DVD-R 1x Writeables. Part Number
3202 5510 and Maxell 2x DVD-R Writeables. Part Number
635020. Thay all play flawlessly. Burned with a Sony DRU-500a Burner with Firmware 100d I believe.
Have not tested +R, +RW, -RW. It might play +R but I dont think the others at all.
My mp3 cd's played fine except the load time for each track is a little slow, around 2-3 seconds.
DVD Audio played great except I cant get any output to my subwoofer thru the sub output. Its prolly how I have it hooked up.
Id say a nice unit overall but It would be nice to read dvd+-rw's with it.

Actually a 7 disk changer, but that was not an option in the list.
Played a wide selection from my 2+ years of collecting and making SVCD/VCD disks on a variety of media. Will not play disks encoder at over the standard SVCD bitrate I've tried. I had a Pioneer DV-333 previous and I cannot find anything that will not play on this unit that played on the old unit.
Does PAL -> NTSC conversion very well for both VCD and SVCD.
DVD-+RW support is probably similar to the other units for this year ( 500bk, 502, ... ) so it should play them all. Unfortunatly I have not gotten a chance to test yet. |
