Badly no S-VCD will work on this player, so we can't convert our Tapes from Mini-DV to this medium. But this is no problem, we bought a NE 2500A DVD-Recorder, so we can convert to DVD-R or DVD+R which works perfect on this player. The following brands will work: - TDK DVD+R - TDK DVD-R - Emtec DVD-R - Traxdata DVD-R - Verbatim DVD-R

I've ONLY been using DVD Decrytper to burn. Despite its age, this is still a top notch player.

MP3 WMA CVD? $200 N/A 5 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: that was my first player i bought 2.5 years ago. at that time it was good player is still works but after 2 years i bought another dvd player but this time norcent dp300 very cheap for around $79CAN at wal-mart and so far what ever i put in it played. maybe it doesn't like as nice as the JVC but it does more then JVC and that's waht i like be able to play what ever format. anyway i wish i didn't have to buy the JVC and save money but that's how technology changes so quickly. final thought: for playing just DVD movies is a very good player i am happy with it but as indicated i want more now a days from DVD players so the next thing is to go buy XBOX or (not realese yet) new norcent dvd player that will support DiVX format cyberman

MP3 WMA CVD? $300 N/A 10 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: This player keeps suprising me. last week I bought a DVD-writer (pioneer dvr105) & burn some discs. First It would not read verbatin 2x disc, but the cheap princo 1x & 2x it does great. this was due to problems with burner & Nero. No after flashing burners firmware to 1.21 & downgrading to nero version 5.5.9.14 the burned verbatin disc also works great on this JVC xv-521. Burned DVD+R (by friends sony dru500a)plays also without any problems. DVD+RW could not be recognized.

Player can also take XVCD with 728x576 High Res an 44KHZ Audio Track on a VCD (MPEG 1) But be careful: Just burn the CD´s with a max. speed of 8-10x! I used a Teac CD-W40E at 40x and the player got out of sync at 40x... This happens whenever you burn a cd and the writer has to change write speed during burn process... Quality very excellent now!!! Great Deal!

N/A No rating Comments: Maybe a bit broken unit. Plays most rented DVDs without problems but systematically refuses to play certain titles (for example "Ocean's eleven" and "Driven", tried two separate copies of both). Problem is that when second layer starts, picture + sound gets jerky, or playback totally stops. It was in the shop as guarantee repair, but after I got it back this week, I noticed, that same problem remains. Tomorrow I take it back to the dealer and request for money-back or new player - preferrably another brand.

I works at best when you have a little movie (home made) Further i like it not really, but the movies i have look great. A great and beutiful picture and sound (dobly). I made some vcd and they look good, no i try to make a xvcd with three short movies. You can always mail me at fil@aliasmail.be If you itned to play (x)svcd or even mini-dvd don't buy it!!!!!!! That the reason when i don't like this dvd player, but at my home i the only one.

CVD? $200 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Can't complain about this player. Nice features and a brand you can trust. Even plays the cheap Princo DVD-R discs without a blip. For the price you can't expect much more than this. No SVCD support though.

Just tested unit with HP brand DVD+R disc burned using an HP DVD200i DVD+R/RW drive. The disc appears to work flawlessly with this player. This unit did however reject DVD+RW discs burned from the same unit

I don't like that. I think of bringing it back to the shop. I have read here that it can play vcd, i haven't tried it yet because i haven't gor one made. When i would buy it again i dind't do it. ................

I successfully created a cVCD (using the wonderful how-to's on this site) and made an excellent 2 cd copy of LOTR from the pre-dvd source. I'm keen to try dvd-r and dvd +/- rw on this drive.

Recently tried a DVD-R burnt on a Mac G4 with the Superdrive and it worked without a hitch, then I was surprised to see that the manual said it couldn't!

CVD? $200 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I had the silver version (522) for about a week. It is a good player that play's VCD's on all kind of media (CD-R & RW). It even play's VCD's in the wrong format. DVD playback is great. But, I have change it for a Philips 751 because there is no RGB output and it can't play SVCD. The audiolevels on the SCART-output are too low turning your livingroom in to a disco when you switch back to the tv!

CVD? $200 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I'm very impressioned about this DVD-player, -Can play all CDR-CDRW that I try, work with the cheap cd's at 35cents(sylver green) too. ---Can play VCD and XVCD at 2500kb perfectly.--The SVCD format and Mp3 don't work, (I try at different bitrate). Compare to other expensive DVD--Good buy ! $300 Can. ($200 U.S).

CVD? $250 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Great player, I've tried the 2 xVCD samples and they both work, but the one with the 3.5Mbits bitrate is choppy, tried doing afew of my own tests and at 2.5Mbit bitrate the player works great. Ohhhh, I haven't tried anything else at 3.5MBits other then the test xVcd Nero Image.

N/A No rating Comments: I own a JVC XV-521BK and I'm very surprised it does not read SVCD on CD-R ! (I tried the NERO_SVCD.NRG test image found on the excellent http://www.planete-numerique.com/Pages/Svcd/Svcdtest.htm on SONY and TARGA CD-R) It is the same hardware as the JVC XV-523GD. The only difference is the case (Gold instead of Black). So what's the problem ? If anybody knows more, don't hesitate to contact me for further testing. --- Philippe.Piette@trasys.be
