CVD? $600 over 1 year 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: Had this player over 5 years, now finally given up the ghost, the laser assembly appears to be unable to focus on any disc. This fault developed gradually, first not being able to read the latest DVDs, then finally not reading any disc. MP3 off DVD always had a problem in that the player struggled to browse the many MP3s on one disc; sometimes it played, sometimes it didn't. While it worked it was great, it gave good sound and having a tuner as well was super. The only annoyance was the ridiculous time delay (3-5 sec) to open/close the DVD tray. Now looking for spare parts, I think it's worth trying to keep alive.

CVD? $700 over 1 year 5 of 10 Comments: I often have problem on DVD startup, sometimes I can not browse through DVD menu, restart solves that issue. It can not play Da Vinci Code DVD :(

HP DVD RW and Datawrite+R No problems with SVCD. Very good quality. -Tmpgenc -Nero No problems with MP3 ISO 9660 level 1 or level 2. max 8 folders. DVD-VIDEO Good Quality (sound and video).

CVD $400 N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Even played SVCD outside specs. Used DVD2SVCD with audio 384K bitrate. I like the player very much. The only "negative" comment is, that with stereo sources you always have to switch to pro-logic manually. The tuner is censitive enough to have a good reception. And the sounds good enough for me. Also for audio CD's it is fine. Haven't found and haven't searched for a region-free code for this machine. This is not so important for me because I do not have other DVD's than region 2.

Good image quality, powerful and clear sound (a little weak on the LFE, though, but nothing to complain about). Very happy with it. I had experimented a lot with this unit since I bought it last December. SVCD quality it's outstanding, and I could even make some xSVCD tests. For xSVCD I used some old Memorex 4X CD-R/W, Nero 5.5.10.7 for burning / authoring SVCD's, ATI All in Wonder Pro PCI and ATI MMC 7.6 for capturing. This xSVCD played very well with 720 x 480 at 4000 kbps (anything over 8000 kbps showed "choppy" audio but image was A-OK). No "miniDVD" playing. My computer is one AMD Athlon 1.2 GHZ "overclocked" to 1.4, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB 7200 RPM & 2MB cache IBM deskstar HD, and one old but very trusty and reliable ATI All in WONDER PRO PCI, 8 MB. This setup allows me to capture at DVD resolution in MPEG2 mode with ATI MMC 7.6 (720 x 480 @ 8000 Kbps with no dropped frames 99.9% of the time). Other settings in the ATI MMC also worked flawlessly wither with no dropped frames or <1% DF). All in all excellent results, I can not complain :)

No problems with SVCD. Very good quality. -Tmpgenc -Nero No problems with MP3 ISO 9660 level 1 or level 2. max 8 folders. DVD-VIDEO Good Quality (sound and video). Thanks and sorry for my english.
