I've had this now for a year and a half and it is still going strong. I record around 6 hours a week, and I am still using the same set of three TDK DVD-RWs I bought for it when new. I typically record at FR190, and have never had a recording go bad. The only thing I don't like is the layout of the remote -- it is easy to mix up the navigate and timer mode buttons. Too bad it doesn't have a digital tuner.

If you can find one,get it !!

I have a UK one and NTSC one, both play either pal or ntsc dvd's,can be made region free and with a TBC1000 the recording quality is amazing.

Got what is refered to as the loading bug, went to JVC under warranty ,got it back in 3 weeks, and with a very kind note saying it was probbaly dodgy media and if it happened again, use reset or try a brand new -RW.

Don't blame JVC for everything, the recording quality on this unit surpasses anything I've tried.

Comments:
Player/recorder is pretty amazing. I bought to just us like vcr/2nd dvdplayer. It played dvd+r/+rw/+rDL/SVCD(480x480)on dvd+r/cd-r(music)/Cd-r(mp3s)/dvd+r(mp3s). All played without issues.

Mp3s on dvd have no navigation that I can see. So the only way to change songs is to hit next button (not great when there are 4+GB of music on a dvd) Shows file name when you hit display or on screen.

Cd-r Mp3s have navigation. Can select songs by name.

I won't really use the mp3 features ever, but nice to know that I can if I ever want to.

Gave it a 9 just because for those who would use mp3s on dvd, the lack of (navigation) searching by song or even a list of songs on disc isn't there. Other than that this players is great

Comments:
I bought this unit based on the favorable notes about it elsewhere on this website (surprised there were no reviews of the unit until now). So far, I have not been disappointed. I use this mostly as a VCR replacement. I have been using the 3 hour mode (FR180) and find it works well with broadcast TV. The tuner in this unit puts out a good stereo signal on MTS broadcasts, something the Cyberhome 1600 and Samsung DVD-R120 units I tried previously did not do.

Finding one of these in a store was a challenge. Circuit City($244), WalMart($238), Target($249), and KMart($243) all have it as online-only. I finally found it at Fry's for $249.
