Cheap basic DVD player however this thing offers terrible pal to ntsc conversion. Was watching a pal dvd and the video/audio kept loosing sync some parts were fine others it was like I was watching a movie that was dubbed. Also there was periodic pauses through the movie that lasted about 10 seconds. Played standard ntsc dvd's okay. Would not recommend unless you just need a basic ntsc player.
One other thing I forgot to add is this thing has a lot of quirks to it that causes it to lock up. Some are already mentioned. |

I needed a DVD player for my exercise room, and this one was at the price point I was looking for -- inexpensive! Thus far, it seems to be great player, especially for the money. It is a bit slow to load some titles, but the delay is not unbearable. The remote is nicely sized and works fine.
I think that my only complaint is that the player doesn't seem to have a "stop-point" memory: if you stop the disc and turn the player off, it will start over from the beginning (if you stop play and leave the unit on, it will resume play from the stop-point).
Other than this minor flaw, I really like this player. |

For couple years, I accumulated several dvd/s/vcd that unable to watch by name brand players; some discs are real bad - even my GoVideo player quits playing.
This NSDVD1 is the one I have been looking for. I have tried some other $30-range but found none satisfactory, until I got this one. So saying, I donot mean it shall play all discs, some are poor/bad beyond hope; but after 2 months using/testing, I know that this one is the one I want. The decoding chip (whatever it is) they use on this is much better than many others.
I think my $30 is money well spent. |

also if you're using S-VIDEO output and happen to hit the PSCAN / NORMAL button (under the down-arrow), the screen goes BLACK and won't return even when hitting the button again.
you must restore factory defaults using the COMPOSITE output OR with S-VIDEO, use the following (blind):
Power On
Open Tray
SET-UP
LEFT
ENTER
UP
ENTER
ENTER
the tray will close and S-VIDEO will return
let me know if you've had this problem and this fixed it, thanks

just a note: if you press the play/pause button on the unit with the power off, it won't power on again till you unplug-replug the AC cord.
I own (2) of them. Phone support was no help (India). |

| It's not perfect, but for the price it really is a great player. I've been testing it with all kinds of +R and -R discs (Sonic, Matrix, Philips, Nexxtech, Khypermedia, Princo, Memorex, TDK, Sony, Staples, Ridata, Verbatim, etc. Basically a ton of brands from years of burning) and it's worked with every single one! No staggering, lock ups, or digitizing of any kind, even on some of the problem movies(with going through dozens of movies). A couple times it took an extra second or two to load a menu, but still ran though them fine. The only "problem" I've run into so far is for 2 of the movies parental control came up for some reason(could have been something to do with the burns because the movies were from the same time frame), but keying in the default password(8888) had them playing just fine. Disks had no heatup to them at all after being played, so I don't think there should be any overheating issue's. Nice picture and sound with standard Svideo and audio hookup. Didn't try composite video or digital audio yet. Gonna be recommending this player to a lot of people that are looking for a good, low priced DVD player that plays all the disks they might have. This player truely surprised me! |
