CVD? $100 120 days 9 of 10 MP3 long filename DivX XviD Chipset: AMLogic AML3285/95 Comments: I have been very pleased with this unit mainly because it can play computer files like .AVI and .MPG files also the new DVD +R DL disks and also a added bonus a Radio Tuner. I think this is best unit for it's price. So if you a looking for a Home Theatre System that can play Divx files and Dual Layer Disks this is it....

CVD? $80 30 days 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX XviD MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO Comments: I picked this up from BestBuy on sale for only $80 to use in the bedroom. It is a cheap player with tiny speakers, but it's not as bad as I'd expected. The sound and picture quality is okay. DivX & XviD support rocks. Raw MPG playback sometimes has a black border around the picture which can be distracting. Other than that, it's a great home theater system for under $100. I would not use it as my main home theatre system as it lacks the ability to really rock the house. The remote is a little finicky, you have to point it directly at the unit for it to work. The buttons are also really small so Grandma will have a problem using it. I have not been able to change the region using the hack for Oritron players yet.

MP3 WMA CVD? $100 7 days 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-WMA DVD-MP3 DivX XviD Comments: I purchased this "cheap" home theatre system DVD Player at Best Buy because I was curious about the "MPEG-4" featured listed on the box. I tried DIVX and XVID and they both play surprisingly well. Opening it up revealed the AMLogic AML3295 chipset, which is apparently quite decent. This chipset is also used in the NeuNeo DV308 DIVX DVD Player. Build quality on this unit is a little "cheap" but it's not horrible. The remote is small but workable. The sound quality from the speakers is as good as can be expected from small speakers with a passive subwoofer. I tried a Dual Layer DVD+RW and the DVD Loader choked. I guess I was expecting too much. Overall I'd recommend this as a decent system for a dorm room or bedroom...especially if you want DIVX/XVID on ability (which is hard to come by in the United States). NOTE: The Insignia brand new is "exclusive" to Best Buy. A little research reveals this this system is made by Oritron. That scared me at first but after using this for a week I've found it to be an ok performer. I tried the Region hack for Oritron players and it works flawlessly.
