4) plugged it in car adapter in -20°C and wouldnt work and display getting faded before that
read eveything i threw at it without stuttering. had a toshiba burner and the dvd-r that were burned, this unit was the only thing that would read them. not even the burner would read them. i would have gotten another one on the last return, but walmart stopped stocking it. |

Plays almost everything. Seems kind of cheaply made, but plays fine. Not crazy about the remote, though.
DVD-R works -- authored with DVD Shrink 3.1 and burned with CopyToDVD. |

| I LOVE THIS PLAYER. I got it since it was so small. I travel alot and like that i can pull it out like a cd player and watch a movie on a plane without a big screen drawing attention to myself. The only issue is I can't get the darn thing to read a recorded dvd. I have used memorex and imation. Some people have posted that it reads burned media. CAN I GET SOME HELP? arseniotall@aol.com |

Good little machine. This is my second one My kid dropped the first one. It works with everything I have used except the DVD disk that I record with my Pans. DVD recorder. I will not read those disk but everything else is fine.
The one problem I have had and my brother also is that some times is will shut off if you nuge the power cord while the player is playing. You may notice that after awhile it will wiggle a little more over time. That is it. Other than that its great. I'm trying to figure out a way to get around the power plug problem. |

I found out that this unit plays non standard VCD's in MPEG 1/2 ISO mode (I used Tmpgenc and encoded a standard VCD to 550 kbps and 128 kbps audio). Works on either CDR or CDRW. Means you can get about 2 hours worth of video at a decent quality on a 700 meg CD. JPEG's work on either CDR or CDRW. A nice little unit, and am going to pick one up for my girlfriend as a gift. I was surprised by the quality of the sound on the built in speakers.
Would have bought a larger screen model, but this was the only one left in Walmart.

Just got this player today and it is the best dvd player I have had. I have a JVC-XVS60. but this player playes everything I have put in it.. and the picture quality is great for the size of the screen the zoom is nice and clear and the full function remote is nice as well.definetly worth the 160 bucks canadian i payed for it..
i use nero for burning all my cvd's and iso cds and they all played with no problem.. once again its a great player and worth more then what they are asking for it. |

| I picked up this baby at Wal-Mart for $169.99! They lowered the price last month, used to be $199. Unit works great, no problems whatsoever. I got it for a long car trip (14 hrs) to Charleston SC. I love it. The screen is small but for the price you can't beat it. |

I love mine. The four inch screen isn't too small. It works great. My brother one upped me and bought the six inch screen version. It isn't worth the extra $100.
I use fast forward and reverse all the time on VCD's and SVCD's, so either they have improved the firmware or you guys are missing something?!?
The remote works best if you are several feet away and you point it at the screen. Closer than that and you will have poor response, even with the remote touching the sensor window.
An awesome standalone player and works great hooked up to a TV with AV cables. Don't bother trying to watch any Disney movies if you have to hook it up to a VCR that sends the signal to your TV through channel 3 or 4. The Macrovision will make the color flash. Disney must lay it on thick, though, because most other DVD's have no problems even through the VCR.
Highly recommended!

| Got alot more than I paid for! I bought this to play my duaghter's videos that I converted to DVD-R. This is much more than I thought it was. This is a great player when hooked up to a TV. For all those looking for extra batteries, WalMart sells them online for $40. |

Got this as a gift from my girlfriend when she came back from the states a couple of days ago. She knows nothing about DVD players, but apperantly made the right choice! Great picture for a 4" screen, beautiful sound - at least through the headphones, seems to be better than 2 hour battery life as the specs in the manual.
Have yet to try the video-out (as I have a PAL TV it might not work), but region-2 dvd's work fine with the region hack...although no menus, no re-or-ff-winding and no change of language or subtitles.
Still - the best gift I ever got :) |

Burned mpeg1 directly to DVD-R without any menus etc. I use RecordNow Max. No problems yet. I was hesistant at first, but now that I know it works I burn away. I didn't even need to convert the audio to 48 Hz. Kept it at the original withou any problems.
It would be nice to have a larger LCD, but I'll live. |

I like this player a lot. For the price, you can't go wrong. I have played many DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs with no problems at all. It also jumps into slide show mode when given a disc of JPGs. What really suprised me was when I decided to pop in a karaoke CD+G disc and it actually recognized it and played it! Not even my Apex player did that :)
The Good: Plays everything I've thrown at it. Has good battery life. Perfect if you fly a lot (which is why I bought it). Very cheap!!
The Bad: 4 inch screen is really small, and if you try to look closely at it to compensate, picture looks very pixelated. Remote control doesn't work very well (have to press a button a few times before it takes) |

Great Potable DVD Player. Cost me $191.89 after Employee Discount and with 7.875% Sales Tax. Has great sound through the headphones, but the intigrated speakers are not that good. Luckly it has a coxial audio port so you can connect a set of speakers to it.
The only brand of CD-R I've tried on it has been Acer but I do have some Sony and Memorex to record and test with. |

This thing is pretty darn cool. My only disappointment was that I could not get any DVD-R's recorded on my Panisonic DMR-E30 to play.
I use the Accu DVD-Rs which record and play great on all stnad alone machines I've tested them on (Apex, Mintek, Sony, Phillips).
The Accu blanks have a purpleish hue on the recording side. Anyone know if that color might make a difference to the laser that's reading the disc.
I plan to try a DVD-RW next (which is also supposed to be compatible) , which has a silver record side to see if that works and hopefully buy a silver DVD-r to record and test. Anyway, if anyone else has any ideas, please email me at toonkingxxxx@cs.com.
VCDs (both pressed and cd-r burned ones) played great. So did SVCD that were burned on cd-r. Pressed DVDs (ie commercial release DVDs) play great also. Also plays MP3s on CD-r burned on the PC.
NOTE: this has a 4 inch screen which is small. This is definatley a one person item and you need to be pretty close to it to watch (think the size of a Gameboy or a small portable TV walkman type screen.)
Overall, for the price and what it can play, this is a great buy. Hopefully I can get the dvd-r thing worked out by using silver blanks... |

I was a looking forward to my Christmas purchase of this little player, and it did not disapiont. For a cost of 200$ it was well worth the price and far below to any other portables. The screen looks great and the audio is good, with earphones it is supurb. As for the size it is as big as the first generation cd players. One great positive is that the battery lasts for 4 hours :). The only two complaints that I have are:
1. Can't rewind svcd or vcd
2. Takes 6 hours to charge battery
I have had other more expensive players but I must say for that this player is as good as more expensive ones as long as you dont mind the 4" screen size. |

I watched a couple of movies (~3-1/2 hours) on one battery charge which was much better than the 2 hours spec'ed in the manual. As in the other comments, I'd like a spare battery and I wish there was a region hack. Shinco sells it region free but it costs $100 more and has to be imported.
It plays CBR MP3s but I haven't tested VBR so I didn't know whether the only CBR button was appropriate. |

| I bought this so that I can play my toddler's videos while on the plane. So, the first thing I checked was that the volume was sufficiently loud with headphones, which it is. Newly charged Li-Ion battery lasted 4 hours playing a combo of DVD's and VCD's, with the volume set to its highest. 4 inch screen surprisingly sharp. Fast forward is quirky. On the same DVD I could get up to 16x, while other times it would only let me get 4x. Suppose to have a zoom function, but doesn't seem to work with remote. Average build quality. Flip top cover is flimsy, and if you touch it near the right side while playing, it stops playing. I tried calling customer service today to see about purchasing an additional battery, since they are custom made for this player and the instructions says the battery will last 500 charges. Was told by the operator that there is only one person in charge of customer service, and he/she never returned my call. Bottom line: not a bad deal for $200, but you get what you pay for. I'll be happy if it lasts one year of abuse from my toddler. |

| It showed up in the mail yesterday from Walmart.com. I got it for $195 + $6 S/H (no tax). I sold my Pioneer PDV-20 to buy this unit. This unit plays mp3s, Kodak picture cds, and has a monitor...all of which my Pioneer didn't have. It played every kind of disc I had VCD, DVD, DVD-R, CD-R, CD-RW, and Mp3 encoded discs. I was really impressed with the build at this price point. It is mostly metal, not plastic. The battery is Lithium Ion and attaches neatly to the back of the unit. The only negatives that I find with it are that it doesn't have an s-video out (the Pioneer did) and it is rather loud when the laser moves to different sections on the disc. |
