WMA? CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: I ended up got a $19 fry's special home dvd player, with the help of an inverter, now can play everything. Forget about that $1500 upgrade you did when you buy the Honda (this will be my last Honda).

CVD? $2000 over 1 year 5 of 10 Comments: I drive a Honda Odyssey 2004 EX. When I tried DVD+R and DVD+RW to the dvd player in it, it didn't work at all. However, by using NEC 3520A dvd burner with hacked firmware, I could set booktype to DVD-ROM to DVD+R and DVD+RW media that I burned and my Honda DVD player can play DVD+R and DVD+RW without any problem. I used Memorex 4X DVD+R and DVD+RW. If you want to know more about booktype setting, try google. Your dvd burner might be able to do it.

CVD? $? 14 days 4 of 10 Comments: DVD-R skips at times which I think is due to cheap media (TDK Manufactured by TTG02). DVD+R with DVD-ROM booktype setting worked well as (TDK manufactured by CMC Magnetics). Using an HP 8x Dual Layer DVD+RW drive (Lite On 822S flashed to SOHW-832S CG3E (ATA) model). I'm trying to burn more DVD-R but having trouble with DVD Decrypter and Incompatible Format errors after writing the lead-in. I will try re-flashing my drive and see if that helps.

CVD? $? over 1 year 6 of 10 Comments: Used DVDShrink and Nero 6 to make copies of the kids' movies (Bugs Life, Toy Story 1 & 2, Thomas, etc). I have tried Yamakawa DVD-Rs (1-4x) burned at 4x (haven't tried 2 or 2.4x) and they skip or freeze up. I have had great luck with Verbatim DVD+Rs and Fuji Film DVD+Rs, both burned at 4x. I haven't tried any audio CDs since the van already has a CD player. The one VCD I tried a long time ago didn't work. The player isn't very full featured, but it does the trick.

CVD? $? 14 days 3 of 10 Comments: thanks for great forum. 2004 ELX Odyssey plays Memorex 4x DVD-R burned with NEC ND2510A using Nero6. No luck getting VCD or SVCD on CD-R to work. At least CD player plays all CD-R audio.

DVD +R 8x made by Ridata burnt with Plextor 12x 712A NO GOOD COASTERS< player shows "ERR" DVD will not play. Then tried Memorex 4x DVD -R on same burner SUCCESS ! Used Nero 6 to burn and DVD Shrink to RIP. Even Disney ripped and burned and played. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

DVD-R and +R worked with Memeorex 4X media...UNTIL the upper unit of the radio was replaced for a broken button. Now only DVD-R works. (?)

N/A No rating miniDVD/cDVD DVD-RAM Comments: 2002 Honda Odyessy DVD will play CD-R and DVD-R copies using Nero 6 Burning software. Player will not play DVD+R or DVD+RW. Make sure burner write speed is 2X - 2.4X. Works like a Champ! Used DVD Shrink before burn to fit DVD9 on DVD5(4.7 gig) disk.

Ok with all the information I got here and some other web sites like odyclub.com etc. & with my experience I am at conclusion that only DVD-R Will work. (Don't waste any other media type) For recorded VCD only CD-RW will work but of good brand/quality. Audio cd CD-R will work. Ok I am not that Disappointed with this Player because may be there is only ONE way but still we have a way to record video and audio. I now only shop for DVD-R’s & bought some good brand CD-RW’s (OfficeMax they are free every couple of weeks).

I would NOT go for 2004 Odyssey if I knew this earlier.

Burned with TDK 840G Burner at 2-4x Used DVD MovieFactory V3 Recommended Bitrate - 3,000 - 4,000 Will play both MPEG1L2 and AC3 Audio Tracks.

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: I was happy to find out that my 2002 Honda Odyssey finally would play something other than purchased movies. I bought an internal Buslink DVD +/- R/RW this weekend (although Nero states it's a Liteon). The included DVD+RW did not play in the van, but when I burned it on a TDK DVD-R @ 2X speed, it worked flawlessly. I am very excited. I have burned the DVDs in MPEG1 & MPEG2. MPEG1 works great because the LCD screen in the van is not very high resolution anyways, and in addition, I can fit 6-7 hours of my kid's movies on one DVD. I will post other media if I can get them to work. The disappointing part of this factory-installed DVD player is that it does not support anything except Audio CDs (purchased only) and DVDs. It will not play VCDs, CD-Rs, or CD-RWs. My brother's 2004 Toyota Sienna plays everything...VCD, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW. Although I haven't tried any burned DVDs on it yet. The other disappointing part of this player is that it doesn't auto-detect non-anamorphic widescreens. My example would be Bug's Life. The movie has a 2.35:1 framesize, but it is essentially a 4:3 frame with very large black bars on top and bottom to make it the framesize. When I watch it in the van, it stretches this picture even further (van is letterbox screen). I would guess the picture is now about 3.0:1 and the picture is short-and-fat. I thought it should "chop" part of the black bars away and make the aspect more reasonable...???

N/A No rating Comments: My Honda Odyssey 2003 player played only DVD+ recorded at 2.4x or 4x on HP writers. It did not worked with Polaroid (The same brand of discs that worked with HP)

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: So far have tried 2. Neither has worked. Memorex DVD+R 4x did not work at all (ERR code on player). Sony DVD-R 4x was read briefly but would not play. Disks worked on several other players. Honda really skimps on electronics, which seems kinda ironic, since they are japanese after all. I am using a Sony DRU-530A to burn.

N/A No rating Comments: Tested on Honda Odyssey 2003, but included it here since its most likely the same unit. Used TDK 440N Indi USB drive, DVD Decrypter and Pinnacle InstantDisc/InstantCopy. DVD+RW does not work. CD-RW media does not work. Tried Imation DVD-R 4x media and CompUSA 1x DVD-R. Both worked. Since these cover the boundary of media speeds, it seems that DVD-R disks work OK on this player. Will try DVD+R next.

N/A No rating Comments: I tried a sony DVD+RW disc recoreded on a Sony DRU-510A drive. Did not work. I also tried a creating a VCD on TDK CD-R and a CompUSA CD-RW 4X disc. Both recorded on a LTR-24102M (dell) drive. Then I tried a CompUSA CD-RW 4X disc on a LTR-24102M (dell) drive. None of these worked. All worked on my Sony DVD player. I'm off to get some DVD-R discs to see what they do.

N/A No rating Comments: Burned one Philips 2.4x DVD+R with Nero Express and NEC ND-1100A +R drive that works. I don't know if it's possible to change the bitsettings on the NEC drive. DVD+RW did not work.

I tired different authoring/burning software (Instant CD/DVD, etc.) ... no success. Still trying with Memorex... might try another vendor soon. N/A No rating Comments: I tried a no name DVD-R disk (the only one I could find that sold a single disk) that I burned myself and it worked like a champ. I just bought a box of Memorex DVD-Rs and will report in once I try one of those.

SBR, can you please let us know more about your positive experience? Your Honda seems to be reading a lot of stuff, what loader does you Odyssey mount?

N/A No rating Comments: I finally opened the player to see what is inside. The label on top the loader says that it is a Matsushita (an arm of Panasonic that makes drives). When I opened it, I found three square chips 1) Panasonic MN677532JA, 242U6MM9 That is a Video Decoder (DAC) 2) Panasonic MN103S13BDAUB, 243U3MB9 The AM3 (MN103) Series of 32-bit microcomputers covers a broad range of applications from equipment controllers through multimedia processing. Main use: Optical disc players, video CD players, digital still cameras, digital television systems, navigation systems, portable information devices, air conditioner compressers, washing machines, etc. 3) Panasonic MN102H55GCA, 242U6M23 Panasonic 16bit CPU. offering application-specific models with built-in peripherals tailored to the needs of such specific applications as video cameras and other audiovisual applications; hard disk drives, floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drives, printers, cellular telephones, and other information processing and telecommunications applications; and control applications for motors and air conditioners By talking with flashing experts, it looks like this is custom made hardware and we are out of luck. I hate Honda.

N/A No rating Comments: I called my Honda dealer to find out what type of media would play in my 2002 Odyssey EX. I was told today that the Honda technicians said "none" because their documentation says no CD+-R disks will play and therefore they assume the same for DVD media. They have no documentation at Honda on compatibility with DVD media.
