I really want to like this player--region free, plays VCDS... the problem is that it can't play an entire movie without overheating and rebooting. I tried moving it out of the AV cabinet, and even placed it on a USB laptop cooler to no avail.

I bought this player back in the summer at ShopRite in NJ for only $69.99. It claimed it could play VCDs and I figured I could easily return it if I wasn't happy with the unit.
Played VCDs(8 original, 2 burned) and SVCDS(1 original 2 burned)and regular audio CDs(Who's Next, Highway to Hell) with no issues. Upconverted DVDs(at least 20) extremely well and played all Blu Ray movies(only 7 to date) thus far. Image was slightly better than the Panasonic BD10, which I thought had an excellent picture to begin with. One physical characteristic about this player that appealed to me is that despite it's slim design it feels very heavy. It doesn't have that light, plastic feel that you expect from these cheap no name players.

The best feature this unit possessed however is that it was Region Free right out of the box. I played Region 2 copies of "Dune" and "Tommy" on DVD and a Region 2 copy of John Carpenter's The Fog on Blu Ray. Images were great and I am amazingly using this player in my Home Theater with my Epson projector. Never thought a no name unit like this would be the answer to an all media disc player for my viewing needs.

I'm posting this thread now as I see the same unit is back on sale again at ShopRite for the same low amount. You'll be hard pressed to find a Blu Ray player that plys VCDs and SVCDs(I know there are some people who don't care if their Blu Ray player can play these discs) and is also Region Free without any modification required. And at the price of $70, at worst this shoul be your secondary Blu Ray player.

*One point deducted for no internal fan on this unit. I had a one time issue as this is in my media cabinet on a shelf above DVDs and below the cable box with the glass doors closed. The two remedies was I slighty elevated the playe on the corners as to allow air flow to the vents under the player and keep the doors open when I'm watching movies. Again this happened once, and given the room temp at the time and the tight poorly ventilated space it occupies, this would probably happen to most units.

Plays everything I've tried so far. mpeg4,H.264,avi,mkv,divx,xvid. The official list on box says "mpeg4-avc,H.264,VC-1,DTS-HD,BD-Java. I have not tried the last three. Bought last two up at Shoprite for $70 each just this weekend. The had them listed as marked down $90 off $160. Did I mention ethernet port (RJ-45)? HDMI/Composite/Optical/Coaxial/Componet Video Output/ETL approved/Auto Voltage (100-240V 50/60HZ/Support native HD resolution of 1080p/1080i/720p/HDMI version 1.3/two USB Port 2.0(one front, one back)/Dolby Digital,Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD/Mpeg-2. All in all a lot of bang for $70. Hiteker rocks!
