CVD? $550 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I had two different players before this one. The first was a defective Pioneer which I liked unfortunately I was not able to replace it with another. The second was a much hated JVC unit that I put up with for about 6 months. Then I saw HK’s DVD 25 and loved it. Wonderful unit worth every penny.

It even reads MP3s on DVD+R/RW I burned with WinOnCD 6.0 with ISO/Joliet/UDF file-formats (Nero burned MP3-DVDs did not work). Though it seems to have problems with subfolders so you cannot go back.

Especially the audio quality when playing plain cd’s pleases me very much. Making it regionfree and enable PAL progressive scan is a piece of cake. Only thing I miss is the ability to show selectable SVCD or CVD subtitles, but I guess you can’t have it all.

I had a mustek player, a kiss player and a phillips before this one. This player has played every movie I have tried on it, totaly smooth noe stops in sound or picture. It has a superb sound and picture (plays on a 36" widescreen TV, and a Dolby DTS 5.1 surround sound stereo with Dali speakers.) The only remarks I have in a negative direction is that the player is a bit slow to read the disk at start up, and that the disk tray is a bit shalow. The menues is very easy to use, the manual is good. I've tested with Verbatim cd-r, cd-rw and DVD-r disks, and the all worked superb.

Sounds fantastic through H/K AVR4500 & Infinity Alpha 50 speakers. Highly recommended.

N/A No rating Comments: DVD25 has problems with sound on Imation and Aopen DVD+RW made with AOPEN DVDRW2412PRO. Every possibel setting on Aopen writer used and tested. After aboud 3 minutes 45 secs the sound becomes disrupted. When starting from a chapter point the same sound at the same spot is good!! Very strange. I tried different DVD+RW's, all then same problem.

CVD? $? N/A No rating Comments: Some remarks from my side": I've had the DVD25 for a few months now, and it is fine with me. I only play DVD's and CD's but want to use it for SVCD as well (home video's). Unfortunately it does not play every DVD smoothly (meaning: a short break between the two layers on the DVD. Nobody seems to bother about this... And for my Dutch friends: Dutch subtitles cannot be set as a standard. For the rest, it works great, especially in combination with the H/K AVR3500 receiver and Infinity Alpha HCS speakerset. Never save too much money on speakers!

Phenominal picture, sorta slow disc load time.

I've tried a few (including the SVCD PAL Sample) , but it doesn't seem to work. Although the “header trick” does. All I get is the MP3-browser, while inserting a SVCD. Bought this one as region free from a dealer in Sweden.

Corrupted SVCD media causes not only corrupted video+sound, but the DVD25 menu and setup goes crazy too (Power off/on hepls).

Have tried numerous media on VCD support, thought it has some problems with jerky movements at time on VCD, SVCD plays out perfect. Have tried White Label DVD-R and DVD-RW, works perfect, not problemswhatsoever. Go buy this player, great player to an affordable price. SIGGIS
