There is definately a laser problem where it wears out very quick and refuses to read discs

WMA CVD? $? 270 days 3 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DivX Comments: A word of warning to anyone thinking of buying one of these....i bought mine about 9 months ago and all was well, i very satisfied until about 3 months ago when it stopped reading the disc altogether half way through a film. It managed to fix itself after i tried every disc i had, and worked fine again....until now! It has stopped reading any disc i have, no matter how much i try. I have been searching the internet and have found that this problem occurs in many of this model, the reader degrades far quicker than you would hope and the only solution is to send it back to its manufacturer in France. Another bad point is that the only safe way to get firmware upgrade is to also send it to France to have it done by their experts. I have seen some unofficial upgrades but whether these can be trusted or not is another matter. In closing, now that the big names(like sony, pioneer among others)have begun to make these i would suggest you go for a decent, reliable make and not buy one of these!

Nice menu with lots of features. Only bad point is that there is a continued 8 volt supply from the scart socket even when dvd player is in standby, so it has a on/off switch on rear to turn dvd player off altogether.

CVD? $150 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MPEGISO Comments: - slim line, DVD loader (DVS?) looks fragile - problems with sound (stuttering) in 16:9 mpeg or avi - no possibility to store Finnish language (or several other European languages) as preference for DVD audio and subtitle - VGA resolution is only 640x480 50/60 Hz (PAL/NTSC) (really need 1024x768 @60Hz or @75Hz badly - Yamakawa 365 DivX can do it - maybe it's chipset limitation) - bad remote controller and / or IR-receiver + can play (4:3) mpg files from DVB card directly New firmaware will be available on week 13 !! Adds subtitle support for DivX.

The new firmware should be available soon and it should allow MP3 tag display.

Play all the videos i have (except ogm, real video and mkv) with great quality :) all divx works (3,4,5,pro) xvid... Play all my mp3 (display 14 characters on tv), and random play is here :) You can rotate JPGs, thumbnails on tv, 14 transitions effects... There is also a VGA connection :) So i think it's the DEFINITIVE divx player for the moment !! and it plays DVDs too ;)
