Almost 2 years old, worked fine with almost all kind of media.Yes, yes... too little subtitles, & jerky Xvid picture @ some quant. I just love it. The best buy for the children's room or the kitchen. Robust, reliable, my 3 years old son uses it.

I finally found the reason:

The player does not work with XviD files, that use non-standard, so called custom quantizer matrices (or MPEG-custom in the XviD jargon). h.263 or MPEG quantizer matrices work without any problems.

(just for the info: DivX always uses the h263 matrix; so at least the MPEG matrix is working although the DivX HT certification does not require it...)

You can find out which matrix was used with the tool MPEG4modifier

I have the same problem as Sergio. With several XviD files I have wrong colors in blocks; the blocks might be the macroblocks. The wrong colors appear with every scene change (aka I-Frame) and are getting better with more p-frames coming. Just before the next I-frame the colors are almost back to normal.

I can't find a clue which XviD files are playable and which not.
- It does NOT depend on (number of) b-frames, Qpel or GMC, since I have a file that produces these artifects and does not make use of any of those features. So packed bitstream or normal is also not the problem.
- It does not depend on VBR or CBR MP3 or the muxing type
- It does not depend on the muxer (I tried nandub and Vdubmod)
- It seems that it does not depend on the average total bitrate (I'm not 100% sure about this but pretty sure. Also the DivX home theatre certification requires that the player can handle streams up to 4000 kbit in average)

If someone has a clue when and why this happens PLEASE post here. I will be very grateful...

This player works fine, good picture, sound, etc
I have bought it to watch a few divx / xvid that a friend of mine gave me. Some movies (xvid) are pixelizing full of colors. The solution is to create a DVD from the avi file, i have used winavi and for the subtitles vobsub and burned it on a DVD+RW.
I hope that Grundig upgrades the firmware to make it possible to watch the xvid files correctly.

Comments:
Positive:

1. High quality dvd drive: noiseless ,good error correction.
2. Picture and sound quality really high.
3. divx/mpeg4 decoding much better then PC.
4. Relatively low price 70 Euro.

Negative:

1. Remote control buttons have same appearance (especially play and stop) difficult to recognise.
2. Remote control receptor not enough sensitive (require straight direct targeting).
3. Sometimes in divx movie sound and picture are not synchronized (not from start , but later in middle of movie for example, anybody knew how to recover it ?).
4. Stranger noise during low sampling mp3 playing.
5. While Jpeg pictures show mode some files interrupt show and hang DVD-player. (only switch off help).
6. Long response time while mp3 playing and jpeg show .
7. Very slow jpeg decoding.
8. Fast picture search is not really fast :) (only 16x – terrible slow to reach middle or even end of divx or svcd movie).
9. “TV-Format” option does not work (euro-av cable).
10. Stupid support via internet site, impossible to download manual in another language, guaranty information?

I don’t expect firmware update, with fixed problems, for this player :(
(Anybody knew about possibility of firmware update for GDP 2400?)
Not really bad for 70 euro, but with pleasure change to another player (NOT GRUNDIG).

Outstanding picture quality.Even in DIVX and extreme sharp in JPEG photo's. Looks like a high-end player with this quality and capability. Incredible what Grundig can do for such a little price. It's my player for the next years.

Fantastic Player.
Have had several dvd players, but this one is the best.
Bought it so that i could watch my collection of divx/xvid, with subtitles in .srt and .sub format.
It really works. Never got a reading error. Reads every mpeg4, divx 3,4,5, xvid, everything. And with a fantastic quality. Better than in my pc.
Worth buying.

Supports nearly every disc format (DivX, MP3, MP3-DVD etc.). Great sound (was tested in several magazines). Outstanding quality: metal front, metal buttons... Easy and intuitive handling. 1 point less: MP3 Folders or track information are not given on LCD Display (even though handling with TV Display is really simple)
