CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: Player only reads Region 1 DVDs. Converted commercial VHS to Sony DVD+RW and it worked. Converted same VHS to TDK DVD-R only to get the message "Disk Error - Unable to read disk." Same DVD-R's will play on other DVD players. Frustrating and unable to figure out. Ready to drop Go.Video off nearest cliff.

CVD? $? 180 days 6 of 10 Comments: I burned a +RW on my Lite-on 5005 and the Go Video wouldn't even load it. A -R disc burned from the same machine glitched several times during playback on the 4400. Philips-burned +RW discs work in this unit, though. The video quality of the Go Video is inferior to the Philips DVDR985 and the Lite-on, and the remote is not at all intuitive. The on-screen menus seem antiquated. Instead of just tapping the FF button on the remote to increase the FF speed, you have to hold it down - very odd. Although the faceplate is attractive, this machine feels cheap when using it.

CVD? $? over 1 year 9 of 10 Comments: The DVR4400 works well for DVD and VHS playing and VHS recording. I tried to use a CD-RW for VCD and SVCD playing. It would only work for VCD. When I used a CD-R for SVCD, it worked fine. I don't know why the CD-RW would not work on SVCD, but I will now only use CD-R for SVCD.

Watching a DVD and recording something is very convienent. There is no zoom on the DVD player. I tried some slideshows I did with Ulead. The pics looked great, but there was no way to manually move back and forth to the pics. My old Apex does that well.

CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: The main reason of purchasing this unit is to play home made DVDs, VCDs and SVCDs, and occsionally watch VCR tapes. This DVD-VCR combo suits my needs perfectly. In the past month, I had authored and burnt quite a few DVD-Video (DVD-RW), VCD (CD-RW), SVCD (CD-R/RW) and miniDVD (CD-R/RW) discs, and tested them on this unit. It played all of them, except the miniDVD discs. The unit hangs when loading miniDVD discs. With DVD-RW discs, this unit needs some persuasion. I have to stop and play a couple time, or eject and re-insert the disc to make it play the video.

N/A No rating Comments: Purchased at costco... used PictureToTv software and worked exceptionally well. Love the price and ability to play the video cd. Used the cheapest CD's I could get (19 cents each) and had NO problems.

Tested it with a homemade DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW captured using a Snazzi III AV.DV, authored using Power Director Pro, and burned in Nero on a Sony DRU-500A. They all played fine. Also tested a downloaded VCD image burned in Nero and it also played fine. Didn't get a chance to test DVD-RW or SVCD but will the next time I visit. No noticable delay when skipping chapters. Media tested: Memorex and Imation DVDs and Office Depot and Imation CDs.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: bought this player because i wanted a combo since we have a lot of kid movies in vhs still. Found this player does a great job on vcd's and svcd's. I also have a phillips 790 and the picture quality on the 790 is much better than the govideo's. I cannot get some movies to go full screen mode whereas on the phillips it automatically goes to full screen. I noticed on the govideo there are only 3 settings for the dvd - 4:3pan and scan, 4:3 letter box, and 16:9 widescreen. For the price 140 bucks at costco, it is the best unit out there for the cost of a combo unit.

N/A No rating Comments: I burned a VCD of still photos (jpg) with background music (mp3) using Ulead Photo Show. The resulting VCD played well on another DVD but played with rapidly advancing pictures and garbled sound on the DVR-4400. My research revealed that the DVD player must support VCD 2.0 and Interactive Playback Control (PBC) to play this format properly. The remote control for the player that play well has a PBC on/off control. The DVR-4400 remote does not and the manual makes no mention of PBC. It does state, however, that the DVR-4400 supports VCD.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: So far so good. Plays DVD+RW just fine. Also good features. Region and macrovision hacks still unknown. NOTE: The "S-VIDEO" output is for the DVD portion of the machine only, NOT for the VCR side.

It is nice to have everything in one unit (VHS/DVD/VCD).
