CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: A good player, only seems to like DVD+R serious hiccups with DVD-R. I bought it 3 years ago (roughly), and just recently bought a burner. It's definitely better than my obnoxiously loud APEX.

(Buy an Apex AD-1000 or AD-1100W, they work the best with burnt media, and they only cost $50 at your local Wal-Mart!)

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I dropped by this forum before I bought my DVD Burner but found that the reviews didn't cover DVD+/-R compatability, so I threw in the extra bucks to get a burner capable of burning both + and - DVD media. I have tested each of DVD-R (Verbatim), DVD-RW (Verbatim), DVD+R (Sony), and DVD+RW (Sony). They all worked for me. However with both of the RW formats the machine was rather finicky. I often had to pop the disk back out and put it back in and if I put too much data on a DVD once it got to the last bit of the DVD the player would freeze up. The most common malfunction with the RWs was that it would randomly skip 2 minutes forward. Bummer but no big deal since RWs are usually used for massive data storage. No problems so far with DVD+/-R media.

CVD? $80 N/A 5 of 10 DivX Comments: This was the first DVD player I purchased. It plays VCD but it depends on the burning software. I use Nero 6 and every time I burn it plays. I have used Memorex Gold and Silver and it worked. I use GQ brand from Fry's and it plays fine. I recently got an Emprex DVD+/-RW drive and made a copy of Pirates of Caribbean on DVD-R and it plays perfectly. I used DVDXcopy for that. So far it has been dependable as a test machine for disc compatibility. I will try +R media and see how that turns out.

CVD? $150 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: The only CD that works GREAT is the cd I purchase from circuit city. It's called STI Digital Media. I buy these CDS in bulk. recently purchased 200 for $5. Absolutely no problem. I haven't got even a single coaster in the last 500 burns. Just remember to burn at 8X or lower while burning using nero. I tried burning at 12x and higher and it gives jerking movements. I tried Optimum DVD-R, but it didn't play. Used Cendyne A05 burner to burn the DVD. Will test fuji film DVD-R later.

N/A 1 of 10 Comments: I got this DVD player as a Christmas gift about 2 years ago (would have never personally bought anything made by GE) and it sux all the way around. The audio and video go out of sync a lot and movies skip to the end often. DO NOT BUY GE DVD PLAYERS! Anyway, I burned my first DVD today on an Imation DVD-R and it's a no go.

CVD? $125 N/A 3 of 10 Comments: This player does some of what it says-plays [commercialy produce] DVDs, but that's about it. The player is supposed to support VCD, and MP3s on CD-R media. I was NOT able to get a VCD, burned on CD-R media, going on it. I didn't test a disc with MP3s, but I imagine the same problem will be true. I verified the VCD on my PCs and on my own DVD player (a Philips 793c); it played just fine. The GE1106P didn't recognize the VCD and returned a "NO DISC" error on the LED and screen. I tried ejecting and replacing the VCD but no luck. It didn't read the disk. I Googled the model number and found that in general, users rate this DVD player as poor for CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-R playback. No kidding! I used an iMation 16x/700MB/80min CD-R, no label.

CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: UPDATE from earlier posting: I was able to get a DVD+R disk to work with the GE 1106P-B. I used a Memorex 4.7GB disk (4hours video). It worked perfectly. The disk was burned with Nero, using my Memorex DVD+RW/+R internal rewritable drive. The quality was good, considering I downloaded something from the internet to burn onto my disk. -lineber PS: I still will test the SVCD on a CD-R feature and probably will attempt to see if I can get a DVD-VCD or DVD-SVCD disk to work with the GE 1106P-B. However, it will be after the holidays before I do any of this.

CVD? $125 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: I am new to burning VCD's, I have a GE 1106P-B DVD player in my living room and record with a Memorex DVD+RW/+R internal rewritable drive. Here is my disk report as of (12/17/2002): I was UNABLE to play using CompUSA 700mb/80min (4X) CD-RW, HI-VAL 700mb/80min (1x~16X)CD-R, or Memorex 4.7gb 120min DVD+RW disks. GOT "NO DISK" ERRORS. I was successful with JENSEN 700mb/80min (up to 32x) CD-R [color pack]. I burned it in VCD 2.0 and it ran on the GE 1106P-B without any errors. I have yet to attempt a DVD+R but will with the Memorex brand disk. I will also attempt SVCD format with the JENSEN CD-R disks. PS: The Jensen box says that the disks are "STI Certified Products" http://www.sticertified.com . By the way, the disks were purchased at Circuit City. A five pack costed $4.31 with taxes. Very expensive compared to other bargains I've seen. Circuit City has a 200 spindle of CD-R's for as low as $35.00 after rebate. I believe they were Digital Media CD-R's. But I already have a spindle of HI-VAL CD-R's and purchased the 5pack because I wanted to try a different type of disk (under $5) and didn't want 200 disks of CD-R's that might not work.

Strangest thing is that on the front panel there's a light up "MPEG" under the "MP3", leading one to believe there is ISO mpeg support although it didn't work for me :/ Then again both disks had mp3s also, so maybe if only video files are on the disk...

CVD? $149 N/A 6 of 10 Comments: This dvd player will only play the following cdr's. -circuit city- STI digital media cdr 80 minutes or -compusa- bulk media discs I prefer using the circuit city ones. They have less errors. Also use nero burning rom to make your vcds, very easy. I have not yet tested any other media besides these. P.S Thanks to Mike Hazen for all your help on this one:-)

It played a DVD-R burned using an Apple DVD-R disc and a Macintosh G-4 computer equipped with a Pioneer drive and there were no apparent glitches in the playback. I also have a self-assembled PC system loaded with the Panasonic LF-D311 DVD-RAM/DVD-R drive. I plan to test DVD-R discs burned on that drive soon. I do not know if this unit supports DVD+RW or DVD-RW. I'm disappointed the GE player doesn't play CD-R or CD-RW media. Still, the player functions well just for playing DVD movies.

I also tried a new cd-r that is silver and made with sometype of crystal(i think it is a black dvd) but it did not work either. I have tried a few cdrw's and then seemed to work. If anyone finds a type of cdr that does work, please send me an email crazy_man699@yahoo.com

There are much better ones (APEX AD-660) on the market for the same price
