| very nice player, has problems with packed bitstream in xvids but if you run the file through mpeg4modifier and unpack the bs then they work fine, works perfect with divx3, divx5 and the new divx 6 as well, i upgraded the player with the firmware from this thread http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?showtopic=1002&hl=8918, it fixes the volume problem and gives you a new background image and a better browser with longer filenames added, grab it as it helps a lot, just wish the packed bitstream problem would get fixed, excellent player, well worth the money (£60) |

I purchased this product and 3 of my friends bought it, the only gripe is the Fuc**** volume adjustment, everytime you turn the unit on you have to turn it up from 0 to 60 to hear anything. Elta give us a way to correct this problem. Elta, you've made a great product except for the volume flaw. These complaints need to go higher than to the techs at Elta, they need to go to Owner/Management, I would do that but I cannot speak fluent German.
People are looking for one player that is complete in its ability to play all dvd & divx forms, and fuction correctly as a player in all its abilities. Ive purchased 5 different types of Divx/DVD players so far and every one of them has a fault somewhere. It really sucks that these electronic companies cannot get their shit together with simple techology. I mean come on "Volume adjustments".... it should stay where you last had it, This is how it is on 90% of products are.
Does anyone know of a HACK to fix this problem, like the hacks for internal software adjustments that are done when you do the DVD region hacks? Like the link for the DVD region hacks on this page.

I bought this from a supplier on ebay because I wanted the RDS receiver. Receiver audio is good however the display keeps on slowly scrolling through the station type eg "pop music" or "classical" with the name of the station also scrolling through every few seconds rather than just a steady station name or frequency which is rather irritating. Dont forget to turn the sound up either or you wont hear anything!
The unit locks up in RDS receiver mode, usually within 30 minutes of use. The radio channel is still heard ok but you just cant change channel! The display is left with some chinese looking characters and the power has to be cycled to clear the problem. This means all the set-up options have to be re-entered again which is something of a pain! Strangely the receiver frequency memories are not lost.
I cant get the white balance sorted on the display although it might just be my old Panasonic TV causing this problem. Its nearly a good unit. Dont get one for the RDS receiver though....Its practically useless with the current software. |

Everything perfect.
Just the volume setting is very annoying. It's always on 0 so you have to make it high till 50 or 60 to get a normal volume... everytime you switch it on! I suppose the buttons for the volume setting of the remote control will get broken easier like that.
And if you are watching the DVD and you switch to TV you can get a shock because of the high volume... so if ELTA wanted to make a DVD player for families with children who live in flats (who believes something like that? It's ridiculous!), they'll have to try again.
Apart from this detail, the rest is just great.
If you have a HOME CINEMA stuff home, you can adjust loads of things with the Audio Setup of the DVD player.
You can Zoom In and Out (for those interested).

The Elta Divx Receiver 8918 MP4 is the predecessor to the Elta 8883. I got mine from Ebay. When it arrived I unpacked it, wired it up to my 5:1 surround system and placed the first DVD in it. Impressed with its slim design and sturdy build, I fired up my first DVD but to my horror there was NO SOUND. Time to read the User Manual, as you do.. So I flicked to sound section read it all, entered the setup checked my 5:1 setup all cables etc etc. Still no sound. I was just about to pack it back up and send it back when I noticed (like all DVD players) it has its own volume buttons on the remote so I tuned the built-in volume up, which was set to zero, and it worked fine. Only to discover that every time I switch it off the built-in volume resets its self to zero… dammed annoying due to the fact that the volume buttons on the remote are small, and Not very responsive.
I thought the DVD player was defect and phoned the dealer to exchange it, he informed me that this was normal for this player, and that he had contacted Elta about it and they had said it was intended that way. I did not believe him so I phoned Elta on +49(0)6074 / 6960-119, 126 where a not to friendly technician told me that this player was supposed to reset the volume to zero when switched off so that it will not be too loud when its switched back on, for people that live in flats or have small children that are sleeping.
In disbelieve I asked if the problem would be rectified with the next firmware update. No he said it is meant to be so, and there are no plans to change it.
Apart from that it is a excellent player with two stereo aux inputs, 5:1 output and a built-in RDS FM, AM, radio tuner. It can also play MP3 tracks at the same time as it shows a picture slideshow, not many DVD players can do that. It also plays Minidvds burned with Nero 6603. All in all it played everything I put in it and that’s why I didn’t sent it back.
Once Elta Admit that the volume problem IS a problem and not a new marketing ploy to conquer the market of people living in high raised flats with sleeping kids, it will be an excellent player.
