CVD? $? 14 days 8 of 10 Comments: I bought the 8883A in Germany to be used on an American NTSC ONLY television. After setting it to NTSC, I had very poor video from the composit and S-Video connection. I did not try SCART. The only output I was able to make work after cantacting Elta was the component output. Other minor complaints are the remote has weak signal and the disc tray is noisy... other than those MINOR complaints, it seems to be an excellent player

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I bought my Elta 8883A two days before. I have these problems: 1) When using zoom, the zoom information (2x, 3x, ...) blocks permanently part of the screen. 2) When I press the "Memory" button there appears a small white dot in the uppper midle part of the screen and stays there until I switch the player off and on again. It is not possible to use Elta 8883 upgrade for 8883A and there's no upgrade for 8883A at www.elta.de yet. Otherwise I like the player.

CVD? $125 N/A 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 ID3 TAG DivX DVD-MPEGISO Comments: This player has played *all* media that I have - VCDs, SVCDs, DVDs and DIVx-Films on CD-Rs, CD-RWs and DVD+/-RWs. There is no noise while operating, the player is quite cool. Apparently subtitles for divx films are not supported, I don't really care about this drawback, though. Picture quality is good in all cases. Fast forward of movies upto 32x. Remote control is multicoloured and looks cheap. Buttons are not arranged neatly and it takes a lot of getting used to. But otherwise good enough for most users. Apparently, some batches of the IR-control had an IR-transmitter diode that had a limited range, and the problem was worsened by a wrongly mounted IR-receiver on the player. I bought mine at shop.schlecker.de and did not have any of these problems. Drawbacks : MP3-sound quality is not very good, inspite (or probably because) of the so-called 3D-effects that you can activate (Hall, Cave etc.) Long filenames are not displayed properly. And if you play mp3 files in a directory, it doesn't jump to the next directory when all files in the current dir have been played :-( Since my burner (NEC 2500A) is also new, and the media are quite expensive, I have tested only with Philips DVD+RWs (both 2.4x and 4x) and with TDK DVD-RWs (both 2x and 4x). In all cases excellent results, absolutely no problems. When I burnt several Divx films on one DVD-RW I had to close the session, finalise the CD and change booktype to DVD-ROM. Only then it worked. (Tested with Nero 6.3.16)

Also with newest firmware Version 5.00.02.02 (17.12.2003) sometimes time delay between picture and sound in DixX films and sometimes it also hangs up.

There are no change in the tv-screen when you change to one from another. No difference in the definitions of the terms in the manual either. The picture quality is good. Hope they support extern subtitle and fix the letter-boxing bugs in the next firmware release.

N/A No rating Comments: I just checked with Elta and this is what they had to say about the DVD-Audio playback: The 8883 definitely doesn´t support DVD-Audio. This is a bug on our English Website.

CVD? $125 N/A 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: The Elta 8883 MP4 is the first DivX/XviD/MPEG4 player (in Germany !) which can also handle the advanced features of the DivX Pro Codec, such as: GMC (Global Motion Compensation), B-Frames, Quarterpixel (Qpel), Post Processing, Data Partitioning, Error Resync Marker (RM). Unlike other DivX players, this player does not use the DivX processor chips from Sigma or ESS, this player is based upon the MediaTek MT1389 chip. DivX/Xvid-AVI's with more than one language are also supported. The player will also play MPEG-2 based S-VCD including DSVCD, SDVCD und Superbit DVD's. DVD-Audio and Super-Audio-CD (SACD) are not supported.
