Many little Movie-Files between 400 and 1000 MB on DVD. For some other Players i need to change the FouCC-Code to DivX. Without Problems.

N/A 9 of 10 DivX MPEGISO Comments: Just bought this player have to say brilliant player plays my divx movies just fine end to end without any loss of sync or quality u cant even tell the difference between dvd and divx they look the same probably because my rips are so good. I have given this player a 9 I would have given it 10 but the only problem is that movies encoded in the 3.11 codec are awful when they run they break up and stutter and crash.

Wayne - your hack doesn't do anything noticeable in macrovision department :o( (tested with "Welcome to Collinwood" DVD...) Anyone else has any ideas? N/A 8 of 10 MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I found the English firmware version 1.0.0.6 under 8882A section on elta.de and it works OK. If you wonder if you may use this version of firmware on your machine, you have to open the cover and look at the chip. The reason for the picture freezing problem appears to be the divx 3.11 hi motion encoding, so try to avoid it. ID tags appear only if you press the display button when listening to the MP3 song. I still don't know how to play one particular album. Look at http://www.elta8882.com/ for more information.

CVD? $250 N/A 6 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: Totally agree with Ben Foster below. MP3 song listings should be at least categorized by folders if not sortable. And where are those ID3 tags? How am I supposed to play the album that I feel like listening to? I upgraded the firmware to 1.6 but guess what - the complete user interface is now in German (luckilly I've been learning German in school). I didn't find English version of firmware anywhere. And yes, too much action in Divx can freeze the picture for 6-7 seconds, but not in all cases (one of four movies I tried). My PC shows the same movie with no problem. It seems like the hardware is not strong enough to withstand all the kicks and crashes. It probably needs hardware, not firmware upgrade. I suspected the media incompatibility at first (red coloured Smartbuy) but after I copied the movie to two other brands of CDs it was clear that the media has nothing to do with it. It doesn't play movies on my Benq brand CDs at all. I heard that Divx subtitles will be supported, but I couldn't find the way to make them appear on my TV (yet). Better luck next time.

Elta has chip EM8500 from Sigma Designs, the same one as many other DivX players e.g. Bravo D1. It's just superb, plays everyting I put into it ( well almost, only one failure with about 35 movies). The only thing that bugs me is no divx subtitles support (anybody knows how to make it work?). Install all new firmware and don't try to run it through composite connection (scart works perfectly, didn't try s-video), or you will only get frustrated. It would have been a 10 if it wasn't for those subs and that one movie. (Almost) Perfect Player.

It DOES NOT play DivX 3.x video good. The picture jump and stops a lot of times. The code free hack DOES NOT work!!! I am not able to see DVD with 1 zone. Please, contact me if you have any solution.

CVD? $125 N/A 9 of 10 DivX MPEGISO Comments: With the firmware upgrade the player plays virtually everything. For divx, xvid make sure your files are encoded with a recent, working codec and you will have no problems. I have had this player for a couple of months but suddenly had the problem someone else described where first the display showed "loading", then it wouldn't show anything. Couldn't get it to work again. Maybe a quality issue with Elta. Anyway, I liked the player so much that I just got myself a new one (for 149,- Euro). I would recommend this player to anyone who considers divx feature important. However, I would strongly advise you make sure you keep your receipt (unlike myself) so you can claim warranty if the player shows a defect.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I've just purchased this machine today, and noticed that only about 10% of my xvid/divx movies are compatible. After doing a bit of research i realised that there are 3 firmware updates available to download. Or better it's going to be the best but engineers from Elta have got still lot of work to do with firmware upgrades. Still there are some DivX (Xvid) movies which got problems to be played on this player. I hope this will be fixed soon. I miss continuous play from selected position for any media (mp3, jpg, mpg). When you push "Play all" button it always starts from beginning. If you want to upgrade the firmware first find out which player you have. There is difference between 8882 and 8882A. "A" player "speaks" English and/or German only. Elta promised to build subtitles for DivX in. I look forward to it, hoping that this will include international character sets. I mind quite much that *.jpeg, *.mpeg and similar extensions are not supported yet. Maybe after couple of fw upgrades I will rate this player by 10.

CVD? $150 N/A 7 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: ELTA 8882 Critic by uwe some DivX-Titles are not playing smooth, especially fast motion sequences with higher bitrate are stumbling from time to time. Other titles run nearly perfect. Sometimes the Playing stops in the middle of the film, although there seemed to be no problem the whole time before. Very few DivX are played without sound. (probably incompatible Soundformat). I miss continious-Play- Function after selecting a special MP3 or JPEG. The "All-Play"- Function everytime begins with track 1 (mp3 and jpeg). The Remote Control is not very practicable in case of ergonomic design and logic: Pause-Key is miles away from Play and Skip-function. Combined Play and Pause-key would be much better. Cancel-key seems to be useless. I miss a real reset-key if the linux-based DVD-player is hanging. Power off is not quite elegant. The drive is medium-noisy. While loading-phase drive-speed and noise is increasing. Loadingtime for JPEG can be very long, depending on number of folders and files: Between 10 seconds (20 pics) and 5 (!!!) minutes (3000 pics). Beside the at present new DivX-Function, I think the maximum worth of the Player is around EUR 79,-
