CVD? $80 1 days No rating MP3 long filename DivX XviD Comments: Just bought it on Carrefour promo for 59.90 Euro to replace my broken Philips player. Tested with all possible media types that I have (DVD, DVD-R and DVD+R, DVD-RW, DivX, XDiv, XDiv with Dolby Surround sound, MP3 with long filenames) - works just fine with all media. The picture quality is overall good though not exceptional (I've seen better on more expensive devices). Very uncomfortable remote - small buttons not easy to push, and need to direct it very carefully. I hope it will work with my universal multi-device remote though. It is marked as Region 2 on the back and on the manual, however it DOES PLAY DVDs FROM OTHER REGIONS without any hack! (I can't check every region of course, but I think if it plays one non-region-2 it will probably play them all). I don't give it a rating as I've just bought it.

MP3 WMA CVD? $100 2 days 7 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: Seems to be a very handy and working DVD/DivX player at this price. It plays store-bought DVD-movies really nice and the video quality is really good, no problems there. And it also plays home-made, burned DVDs nicely. XviD and DivX movies and any other video formats, except window media videos plays overally very good, although, the player only supports SubRip (.srt) subtitles and not .sub and .txt subtitle formats. Shame. And some XviD videos stutter for some reason. Not many but a few. Bothers me a little, but maybe I can find a reason for that sturrering later. But this DVD-player at this price is a really good invesment.

CVD? $? 120 days 6 of 10 Comments: Hi, I already update my denver 188 player with all firmware's but, i found some problems with the last one ( Subtitles .str update) , when i´m playing a movie in divx, the subtitles work fine until 15 minutes of film, after that they simply disappear, some films work fine others will "eat" the the subtitles after 15 minutes of film, I've already open the films and check the format os them.. but it´s all ok... i just don't know why they keep disappear.. other problem is if we press the "STOP" button we will receive a message saying "Press play to resume" after 5 or 10 minutes if we press the "PLAY" button nothing happens... even if we press several times the player will not react... i must turn off the player and play again since the beginning of film...this sucks... in this cases i usually press the "PAUSE" button if i want to go to the bathroom :) ....

I have already updated the firmware from Denver site all gone well and there is no more counter while viewing avi mpeg or other movie file. But no subtitles as was suposed after the update. Can't explain this.

Flashed with the sky.bin from denvers site and my first player died... warranty was still ok so I now have a new one but I'm afraid it dies too if I try flashing again. Serial numbers are ok so it should be mediatek and I followed the instructions. Is there some code to enter so I could see which chipset/firmware version I have?

MP3 WMA CVD $90 90 days 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX MPEGISO Comments: I upgraded twice the firmware and now it plays .srt subs in Divx movies (maybe Xvid movies as well, don't know)and the OSD time remainig bug was resolved. The updates were only for DVD's with Mediatek chipsets like mine, sorry for ESS owners. It plays everything I have, KVCD, VCD, PVCD, CVCD, SVCD and CVD. Everything with superb picture quality with Progressive Scanning option enabled (Selecting YUB TV mode, unlocks Progressive Scanning and Interlaced video mode). Everything OK. Only one problem, I had to use good DVD media because cheap was problematic for playig.

The subs, both srt and sub files did work properly! Now i can relax and sit in my sofa watching my divx without the noisy pc running at my side :-)Very pleased.

I have ordered the player and only because it can read DVD+-RW, the divx feature is just a bonus.

In my humble opinion, these are very serious design flaws for a divx player!!!! ++++++++++++++++ ==>> my denver 188 DOES play/show srt files and i DID a firmware upgrade recently! the chip does NOT support ms-v2 but all other major codecs like divx 3.x, (haven't tested divx 4), divx 5.x + older and latest xvid! good value for money (i paid $85)

N/A No rating DVD-RAM Comments: Já se encontra novo firmware para o DVD 188 no site da Denver o firm é para o Denver 188 com chipset Mediatek, neste caso acho que só tira o OSD na reprodução dos formatos mpeg, avi, mov, etc. Pelo menos já sabemos que se pode fazer o upgrade do firmware... BOA NOTÍCIA, era só o que faltava para ser um DVD/DIX a 100%. 1abraço, Zé.

MP3 WMA CVD? $80 N/A No rating miniDVD/cDVD JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-WMA DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename DivX MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO DVD-RAM Comments: Tenho o Denver 158 e o 188 Divx, ambos trazem o chip da Mediatek MT1389 mas o 158 trás a versão MT1389DE e lê WMA, o Denver 188 trás o MT1389GE e não lê WMA para além de não retirar o contador de tempo na leitura de divx. Alguem me sabe dizer se isto é só um problema de Software(o que não me parece porque o 188 a data de produção é 1-01-2004 e ou 158 é de 10-09-2003), ou é uma questão da versão de chip. Já agora alguem me sabe dizer a diferença das várias versões do Chip.

CVD? $125 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-MP3 DivX Comments: Plays all DivX exept those encoded with Qpel and/or GMC. Plays old XviD and new 1.0 RC3 if encoded without Bvops (eg. B frames). Works with AC3 or MP3 sound. The counter issue in DivX/XviD can be removed if one presses OSD till it says OFF again. Picture scaling is a bit odd sometimes... it works best if the TV can handle both NTSC/PAL and the player is set to MULTI then it will change and scale the image to fullscreen.

Why? - It doesn´t support subtitles. - It´s not possible to upgrade the player´s firmware. here is a mail i got from denver electronics´ support: "The DivX players can play codecs 3.11 / 4.0 / 5.0 / Xvid / AC3, but it is not possible to upgrades the DVD player and do not support subtitles in DivX." In my humble opinion, these are very serious design flaws for a divx player!!!! Another thing that bothered me was a stupid counter that appeared whenever a divx/xvid file was beeing played. It´s not possible to remove it at all and the image quality of a divx movie is not very good. As a DVD player it´s ok (has 5.1 output, progressive scan) but as a stand-alone divx player it´s terrible. Denver promised firmware updates in other dvd players but seldom these promisses are acomplished.

Lê tudo e mais alguma coisa, tem subtitles (os 2 formatos),claro, tem suporte da marca com updates regulares etc. Aos possuidores de Dvd´s da Denver só há uma soluçao: DESPACHEM ISSO Já!!

It does not support divx Subtitles (.sub .str) There is not one line in the manual about Mpeg4 (Divx/Xvid). There is no support in www.denver-electronics.com. While playing Divx there is always a time counter on screen. I read in a Portuguese forum (http://www.max-pt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10854&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=330) that it does not support firmware upgrades. if a divx 6.0 comes out you have to buy a new dvd player :( . So if intend to use it to play divx with subtitles DON'T BUY this dvd player. If not, it's a good choice for dvd, svcd. I'm returning my Denver 188-Divx to the store today.

Fastforward and rewind is great,doesnt freeze at all . It's just a pity that he can,t read some TV shows that ive captured with a pinnacle PCTV, but i guess its just because the frame rate isnt standard(25frames-pal) or just because of the resolution that is low or something. And i also lament that it can't read my divx subtitles in Subrip format,i hope he can have firmware update, but Ok i think its an excellent media player.

N/A No rating JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: Have now tried this player and can give this report DivX 3.11a plays DivX 4.01 Codec not suportet DivX 4.12 plays Xvid plays but have some made whit Koepi's XviD 05/14 Build that i can't get it to play, donno if it curse it's encoded whit the B-VOP setting DivX 5.1 this one was a little wierd, sometimes the audio played whit no picture movement and other times the pic was moving but no audio, maybe also curse it was encoded whit the B-VOP setting
