CVD? $300 3 days 10 of 10 Comments: If you burn D/L discs with DVDDecrypter and set the option to "calculate optimal" for the layer break, the 1720 & 1920 will play through the layer breaks seamlessly (no pause) but the disc won't play in most other players. If you set a layer break with pgcedit there will be a pause but the disc will work in most players. The latest version of IMGBurn has an option to set a seamless layer break and I can confirm this works in the Denon players with no pause. It is apparently the same method used for Sony Superbit seamless layer breaks. This is an awesome DVD player and a very good CD player, a big step up from the 1720.

MP3 WMA CVD? $? 60 days 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-WMA DVD-MP3 MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO DVD-RAM Comments: Love the player, as long as you only use it for commercially available content (like DVD movies, DVD-A and SACD). DivX and XviD is terrible (doesn't scale very well) and you can't play MP3s or view JPGs from DVD media. But like I said, for watching DVD movies and listening to DVD-A and/or SACD, I can't imagine it can get any better than this. CVD? $? 3 days 9 of 10 Comments: Yes, Verbatim DVD+R DL does work!!! It is just important to author the disk properly and don't use Nero to do it. Only problem is that Verbatim disks are so expensive. I am just tempted to split movies uncompressed into 2 DVD-R single layer disks. (Plus single layer ones are more common in inkjet printable form) Pictures are soo good.

NO play back of not 100% DVD-conform DVDs - every other cheap player does!

It works (already 7 times)! I am also having problems with divx/xvid subtitles. According to the manual it should work. Does anyone already have a solution? Great picture (1080i via HDMi output on my Plasma screen) and sound quality!

CVD? $? 120 days No rating Comments: DVD + R DL media from Memorex or Verbatim doesn´t work.There are very few producers of this +R DL media,so hopefully Denon can give me some answer.Maybe som firmware upgrade will help for this problem. The clarity of sound is very good to this price,and picture quality too,but I feel that the player is too ego with many mediatypes that it will not play at all.

Unfortunately the DENON does NOT support MP3 files on DVDs.

DCDi processing by Faroudja. Upsampling HDMI output (480p/720p/1080i selectable through button on front panel--no remote access) looks great. Will not output HDMI and component simultaneously. Another great universal player from Denon. SACD/DVD-A playback is impressive. Amazing at the retail price of $349. Lack of VCD playback is puzzling. I took the VCD test disc I used to a Denon DVD-2910 and Marantz DV-4500 immediately after it failed on the 1720 and 1920, and the disc played there. SVCD plays no problems. R1 Denon players DO NOT play DivX/XviD discs. It's officially supported on their European models, but the USA players will not play any MPEG-4. Frustrating.
