CVD? $60 N/A 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: Having read the below comment about the door sticking - I had this happen at the weekend - the tray wouldn't come out to load a movie. So out came my penknife, a quick wiggle and down popped the door and it's been fine since. I'm not sure I could get it swapped now, since I bought it for £45 (plus got a £5 petrol voucher, so £40 really) in Tescos Camberley when they re-opened as a Huge store, rather than an especially large one =O) And that was nearly 2 years ago now, I think =O{ Oh well, £40 for all the use I've had out of it isn't too bad, and worse case I'll take the fold-down cover off so the tray can get in and out without it sticking.

I wonder/hope if the Dansai 1010 upgrade will also work on this baby. But I'm scared to try. I fear the player won't work anymore once upgraded with the Dansai firmware. And since I don't have the original firmware, I cannot downgrade again. Anyone some experience with upgrading the Technika 1010 ? Or maybe special firmware for the Technika 1010 exists ? N/A No rating JPG/JPEG MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I bought a Dansai 1010 last Aug (2002) it has recently refused to open the DVD draw, to get a disk out or to put one in. My friends machine developed the same problem within a few days. Both were returned to Tesco (they seem to be aware of some prob with the 1010) and we got a full refund. Bought a Technika DVD 203 (from Tesco). This machine is even more versatile. Time will tell how reliable it is. Pete

N/A No rating Comments: just thought i would tell you people that the dansai dv1010 has proven to be a very good player indeed. i bought one from tesco 69.99 and downloaded the upgrade. it now plays everythin i chuck at it. i dont have to buy expensove cd-r's, imation, bulkpaq and verbatim are my usual brands and at 20 quid for a hundred who can complain? i even managed to get jpg's to work on it too using a great little app that i found called pictures2vcd.exe. it takes all the jpegs that u want to use and puts them in to mpeg2 format or even mpeg1 and u can even add your on background music. i made a slideshow off all my family and added my own bgm, it works great. thank you to dansai for such a great player for such a great price. for those people who want the dv1010 upgrade and know how to use an ftp u can find it here : ftp://VCD:HELP@badass.no-ip.biz:@210 login: VCD pass: HELP IP ADRESS : badass.no-ip.biz:210 port : 210 u can also find pictures2vcd.exe here too

CVD? $50 N/A 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: Hi All, Nice cheap machine. In a commercial action of an anniversary celebrating shop it was sold for € 30,- in combination with an action-article. As my family needed a new vacuum cleaner it cost me € 70,- (because it wasn't the cheapest show to buy the cleaner...) It wasn't named Dansai but Technika but looks exactly the same as the Dansai. One problem though: doesn't play out of the box. Would like to try the upgrade mentioned here, but can't reach the sites any more (files been removed?) 2nd question: is it really difficult to burn the disks? CVD? $90 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Bought this player because it was cheap and seemed to offer so much. Does more than I expected. I make VCDs an DVD-R of holidays, pantomimes, plays etc for it on an Apple Mac with a superdrive (Pioneer 103). Everything I make works perfectly, even on DVD-R under £1! The problem is few other people can get the DVD-R to work on their machines which is disappointing. (leaves them with VHS versions only. Multi-region hack simple. For little cost this is one heck of a little player. Well done Dansai and Tesco

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I rate this dansia a 10... but mine does not seem to play DVD's or DVD-r's it does play lord of the rings dvd but when i try The Cell and Road Trip it does not work... i really do not understand why it doesnt work, as my brother has got the same machine and all goes well which is why i rated it a 10... i also work for Tesco's... which will be getting this player back soon unless someone can help, i have used the firmware hack and the macrovision hack using the remote... plays vcds and svcds no probs...

CVD? $70 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Been looking for ages for a cheap DVD player for my Girl for Xmas. It also had to play VCD/SVCD as my Awia XD DV290 doesn't. What a bad buy that turned out to be. After reading all the reviews, this one was the one for me. Downloaded the new firmware and within 30 secs it was playing all the VCD's and SVCD's that my Awia couldn,t play. The Awia cost me £250 two years ago and this cost me £69. Aiwa will now go in the bin and Im off to buy me another for me. How some of you can only score it with an 8 and 9 is beyond me. What are you looking for. At this price you can't get any better. Pay anymore for any other DVD is simply madness. Who cares about named brands. DANSAI you get a big thumbs up from me.

N/A No rating Comments: Just got this player from Tesco - excellent so far (hacked firmware and multi region no probs). Plays SVCD, DVD, VCD, DVDR so far no trouble. Cant get it to play JPG files burnt to root of CD. Also had problems on 2 discs.... It wont play one of my multi DVDRs which I think was recorded on a standalone recorder if I remember correctly. It just says "Disc Error". Also wont play a Harry Potter DVDR on a bulkpaq DVDR disc (allthough all other players which I have owned could play this disc...!). It brings up the "Navi Menu" but wont let me play the DVDR for some reason - any ideas why ? Cheers. j.gladwin@gmx.net

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I bought this player mainly on the previso that the reports here indicated it was JPG compatible. I can browse a CD in the browser but no JPG's are displayed. Is this possible? I'm not too disappointed though... Otherwise a good cheap player. The first one I bought had to be returned due to a distorted and blocky display when playing a CD (could this be caused by a dirty laser lens?). Second one was fine. Region hack & f/ware update went ok (as per instructions here). Paid £69.95 from Tescos Halifax.

Bought it cheap, downloaded the firmware and bang it was done, then i did the region hack and in about 3 mins its all ready to go. Works GREAT on DVD's for a cheap player, barely any noise in fact its pretty much silent. I use TDK CD-RW with no problems. I put my MPEG straight onto the CD and they play - no need to mess about making a VCD however the format of MPEG i am using doesnt allow fast forward but it can probally be fixed, overall sa fantastic buy get one while you can.

CVD? $70 N/A 8 of 10 DivX Comments: For any people out there who don't have Nero or CDRWin and don't fancy paying for them, VCDEasy has a great front end built into it for CDRDAO (included in the VCDEasy package) which will take the bin and cue files and burn them perfectly... and the nice thing is that it's free!!! No extra settings required, just load the cue file and hit burn! Got the Player yesterday and spent 10 minutes playing to make it region free, macrovision free and SVCD, VCD compatible. Threw in VCDs and SVCDs and played both no probs. Also tried a disk with a VCD compatible mpg on it, but not burned in the correct format, the player picked it up and after I selected it again played it without issue. Found one of my Region 1 DVDs was a little noisy in the drive, but this could be the DVD disk as I have not had chance to play it before. The other five or six DVDs I tried were all perfectly fine from a noise point of view. Picture quality is good especially VCD, which it seemed to make a particularly good job of. Did try a CD full of jpgs but this did not work, guess I'll have to try creating one to the kodak standard and see how that goes. Not really an issue for me, I was just throwing things in to see what happened. My only real gripe with the player is as someone else said on here, if you have MP3s split into folders on a CD, you can only select one folder to play and cannot have the player play the entire CD. When I read this comment I didn't think much of it, but I've only had the DVD player 24 hours and I've already realised what an inconvenience that can be. Also the display when playing MP3s is a little basic, would have apreciated MP3 ID tag support. But when you consider the price these are minor gripes about a great peice of kit!

CVD? $100 N/A 9 of 10 MP3 long filename DivX MPEGISO Comments: As everyone else has, I bought this machine at Tescos (seems to be in most of them for £69.99). Had it for a week now. Downloaded the firmware to unlock the VCD/SVCD features, and used the remote hack of Setup, FFwd,Prev,Next to get secret menu for region and Macrovision bypass. All burning done with Nero on various media, with no problem. Also written VCDs with Easy CD Writer play no prob. SVCD does work in my experience. Best feature is MPEGs play straight from disk using a kind of Explorer type menu. Case looks a little tacky but what do you want for this price. I haven't had any equipment breakdown yet, but I'll post if it happens. To quote everyone below "plays anything I throw at it" except DIVX.

Only prob is this is the 3rd one of these ive had. Tesco replaced the previous ones no probs but now i am having the same problem with this one. When playing any format for more than 3 hours the player starts to go blocky and pausing and stuff. I see no-one else has mentioned this so i guess im the only one with this prob. If not i would like to hear from you and find out how to fix it.

N/A No rating Comments: Regarding SVCD support. Note! Contrary to many reports posted here the dansai dvd1010 does not play SVCD’s. The player refuses to play a genuine SVCD with a standard SVCD header using MPEG2. Note this applies even after an upgrade using an original disc from tescos! The only way to play a MPEG2 file is to rehash the MPEG2 header with an MPEG1 header, thus defeating the whole purpose of being able to play a SVCD. Moreover even after the header trick the player seems to have problems with playing sound from a MPEG2 source.

If you want a machine to play copies this is your best purchase by far.........

I'm gonna check tesco returns policy and this is either going back or its a christmas present for someone. Will try an Acoustic Solutions 551 next I think.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Bought This player from Tesco Extra in Leeds for £69.99 Followed the http://homepage.ntlworld.com/camol121/1010upgrade.zip firmware upgrade instructions & all went well. I previously owned the Dansai 852 (ex wife got custody of it !) which did not need the firmware upgrade to play VCD's etc. The 1010 also does not have the stupid 'ping' when the cd drawer is opened which is a bonus. I use imation CD-R's which work out at about 33p each and my VCD's have a very good picture quality on this machine. I use the latest version of Nero & burn at 1x speed. In the store a new delivery of Dansai 955's had arrived, £99.99 with 3 DVD's included (Perfect storm was one + 2 other crap films). The store offered to sell my this although it was not officially on sale. Good all-round machine & very compact.
