| I got this player because it was region-free. However, since I started trying to backup videos using my PC and DVD burner (HP 300i), I haven't had too much luck. (until I found this site!) I've found that Memorex DVD+RWs will not play at all, and neither will those green DVD+Rs you can get for cheap at OfficeMax. (They have Value Disk written on the top.) I have just started using TDK DVD+Rs and they play fine. I've also burn VCDs and they seem to play fine. |

| This Daewoo will play any nero burned vcd and svcd thrown at it. I recently bought a sony 500a dvd writer, and the Daewoo will play dvd-x-copy recordings on dvd-r media just fine. when using dvd shrink the Daewoo had problems reading the media (TDK dvd-r 2x)...It will also not play Fujifilm DVD+RW media that was viewable on a pioneer dv-341. It will also not play TDK dvd+r 2x media. Have not tried 4x dvd-r media but will soon. check back for an update. |

Bought this player about a week ago at ShopRite (yea I know, not exactly the place for electronics), but so far so good, I haven't had any problems with it, unlike 2 of my previous GE players which broke down within a week of usage.
Plays all of my VCD's, but mainly SVCD's without a flaw (The 'pause' and 'fast forward' and 'backward' work ok, could use a higher speed, beyond just 4x, but I'm not complaining since alot of players start to crackle when put to the same test).
Anyway, a few pros, the player can play mpeg's straight from the disk (not the burned VCD), the remote control is easy to use, not clatered with useless buttons, 'fast forward' and 'backward' process is not progressive, but you do have an option of going as fast as 32x for the DVD.
Some cons are the fact that you don't have the on/off switch on the remote, you always have to get up and turn it off manualy, it doesn't read 'jpeg's' and like someone mentioned you'll have to switch the video cable, otherwise you'll be stuck with a dark picture.
I am yet to test the DVD+RW, when I do I'll drop a shorter report. |

I have one problem... one night i decided to watched three movies so half way into the third one the display on the dvd player went blank, time everything gone! I had to turn if off for about an hour before it came back to normal and its been happening ever since. I took it back last week and the technician changed the display and it was the same thing...now i am going to get the panasonic s35 and see what happends with that one. So if you don't mind the display thing i say go and get it "fi real it tuff" with one draw back

Y no permite reproducir subfolders.
Saludos! |

Bought at end of 2001 so price is lower now. Have used to play VCDs with no problem. Have burnt DVD+RW with Sonic MyDVD and Ulead VisualStudio 6. Both work fine including menus although would only access 1st page of VS6 menus.
Played the one DVD+R I tried. Had problem playing one regular audio CD. Also used well published hack to switch regions (and back!) but couldn't turn off macrovision. |

Just to clarify something this player does play PRINCO
DVD-RW. I have tried other brands and they do not work.
Also plays MiniDVD (AC3 audio)but through it's navigation folder not straight like a DVD. |

| This Dvd player plays any mpg you throw at it. It plays Mpgs burnt just as a file on the disk through its folder navigation. I have not fully explored a vcdeasy production. But PBC play works. It plays mpgs recorded at 7500 kbit/sec (This is high as I went). It does play dvd encoded mpgs as well as MiniDVds Note with the minidvd's it play's them in Folder mode only, I believe the unit detects the cdr and will not go to a menu but if you select the video_ts folder it will play. Sound under minidvd ONLY works when recorded in AC3. PCM sound will not play on a minidvd ( This one I couldn't figure). All in all for $79.00 a great deal. Does also play regular music cd's as well as mp3s |

| I use verbatim media disks. DVD+R did not work until I did the remote control hack (setup, stop,|<,>|) to get to hidden setup. I selected bypass region & turned macrovision off, then my DVD+R worked!!! Yeah, I wasn't sure why they didn't since the compatibility showed they should work. The DVD+RW still do not work. I have also made VCDs & MP3s that work also. The MP3s for random play, only seemed to work in the current folder selected and would not randomly go through sub-folders (I do not know if I'm creating them wrong though). All in all, I have not had any problems and have been using it on/off for about a year. |

When I bought this machine from BJ's back in June 2002, I thought it was a great machine - it played every format that I had (DVD - various regions, VCD, SVCD, MP3). However within six months of use this DVD player is nothing but a piece of crap that no longer functions.
After having finished watching the first disk of a VCD movie that I had borrowed from a friend, I put in the second disk. Imagine my disillusionment when the darn player just keep spinning trying to load the disk and cannot recognize/read the VCD. I thought maybe the VCD had a problem so I pop in other VCDs, SVCDs, and DVDs but get the same result. NOTHING WORKS!!
Now go try to find tech support for Daewoo electronic products - you won't be able to. AVOID by all means!! If I take it to a regular electronic repair shop that knows how to fix DVD palyers, it'll cost me more to repair than the price that I paid or to replace. Go figure! |

| I'm not a techie, but wnated to note that I used Easy CD Creator to burn an MPEG file of the Simpsons I got off Kazaa and it played on the Daewoo. I also borrowd some CDs from a friend who archived a bunch of M3s on thm, and it also played. Third, I burned a Photo VCD, using Dazzle onDVD, and it also workd to do a slide show on the TV of my digital photos. HOWEVER, I only got th Photo CD and the MP#s to play after reading on this site that you have to go into SETUP / GENERAL / TV TYPE and change from NTSC to Auto. Dunno why this would be, but I was having a devil of aime playing MP3s and the Photo VCD until I did this. I also used Ulead Movie Factory to burn an MPEG of some higher quality (didnt understand the message, but Movie Facory wouldn't let me burn as aVCD and suggested X-VCD) into an X-VCD format. This does not play; dunno if it's the MPEG's fault or Mvie Factory or the Player. I have no access to SVCDs or X-VCDs to test others. Otherwase seems a good performer for the money. The remote layout is totally wacky, but what the hell. By the way, if you press SETUP / STOP / Skip Back / Skip-Forward this will let you change the region codes. |

Bought this player about 2 weeks ago at ShopRite, and so far so good, had no problems with it whatsoever, unlike 2 of my previous GE players that went south within a week of usage.
This player plays all of my VCD's and SVCD's, as well as DVD+RW's (DVD-ON brand, using an HP 100i writer)
To my surprise it also plays mpeg files (straight from the un-burned disk).
However, it won't play the jpeg's and like someone has already mentioned the video cable provided delivers a dark picture (just replace it with a name brand one, like Sony or JVC).
The remote is somewhat better than the rest, without any useless buttons, but there is no On/Off switch, you have to manualy turn the player On and Off.
But with all those small imperfections (that are really not that important when you think about it) the player is worth all of it's $69.99 ;) |

OK, First let me start by saying that these tests are for the playing of DVD-RW 1X only. I've dedicated my time to DVD-RW because everyone was saying that it wouldn't play. So i had to try and find one that works.
Here are some that haven't worked,
TDK + and -
Pioneer -
Memorex + and -
Forget about the Optodisc - brand. I tried other authoring and burning programs and it still freezes up every now and then. Along with my Optodisc sampler order came a PRINCO DVD-RW. I used the same files that i had used with the Optodisc and loaded the DVD tray and don't you know it played flawlessly. I have two Daewoo 3000N and at first it played on one but not the other. I compared the players settings and notice that the TV type was selected to auto on the one that played and NTSC on the one that didn't. Changed it to auto and it played fine.
Now, i have read some negative things about Princo. I have yet to come across any problems with them. I have been using them for Audio CD's since i started burning. It all comes down to this.
Whatever works for me may not work for you.
Don't know about 2X DVD-RW media.

not play DVD-RW for me though. I've read other comments says that they have had DVD-RW work, but
most of the comments only say DVD-R work. I will
test DVD-R today. I've never had any problems with

Finally got a DVD-RW to work. It came bundled with the Cendyne DVD-RW burner (which is actually the Pioneer 104). It was a blank disc and in small letters it said Optodisc backwards. I actually had some of these on order as a sample pack, should get them this week.
I will try it again with these to see if these are the ones. Also, the movie froze just a couple of times in the beginning. Don't know if this is because i authored it with IFOEDIT. I will also try it with other authoring programs when i get the chance and report back. |
